Thanks everyone for all the great stories! Apologies for the lateness of my reply, but I was on a family vacation this past week and I have a strict no posting or visiting policy for stuff like social media and the like. I'd rather spend time with family instead. Just got back in today.

Didn't actually think this thread would take off like it did though! I came up with the idea after talking with family on the Fourth, we got on the topic of the water tower coming down soon and it kind of just went from there. And looking at official Iowa accounts, the deconstruction has begun. Going to miss that thing, feels like only yesterday we finally got a Tiger Hawk on it.

Lots of cool memories from everyone, some of which long before I was born. Appreciate everyone showing some love for gamedays at Kinnick as we get closer to the dog days of summer and then the final countdown to the first game!

2Dishonest, no one is buying your blatant cover up BS.

Just admit what you've done, like a man. You're really embarrassing yourself at this point.

Why are you even apologizing for not replying in a week? Well, as everyone is aware, you're trying to account for your week absence from the board, after you realized you'd exposed your own lie.

Why are you even telling us where you got the idea for this thread? Well, as everyone is aware, your true reason for this thread was exposed in the TL/ANF thread, and you're again trying to cover up.

You can't even keep your lie straight in this post. You were talking with your family about the water tower on the 4th. Yet you created this thread at 2:31am on 7-4. So you were talking with your family about the water tower at 2am on the 4th? 🤣

And you were up posting about Kinnick at 2:30 in the morning the day you were to leave town for a week+?

And do you take these vacations every year? Because I can guarantee you haven't been away from the board for a week in years. Did you just start your no message board policy?

Again, you aren’t fooling anybody.

You are 2Definitely a one of a kind though. 🤣 Nobody could possibly make this stuff up.

I had even urged people to go easy on you, when you return. But if you keep doubling down on your lie, I'm not sure you expect anyone to do that.

Folks, THIS MAN HAS BEEN LYING TO US ALL. Sorry, but it's 2Damn obvious.

Go Hawks!

With it being the 4th of July, it feels like we've reached the mid point of Summer (although not literally). We're only 63 days away until kick off, I guess I'm feeling sentimental about past game days at Kinnick. I wanted to hear about your favorite memories of Saturdays at Kinnick.

Personally, I don't know if I have a specific favorite memory, but my favorite part was the atmosphere and being there with family. When I was a young kid, I would go with my parents, brother, and grandparents for every home game. I remember we would park in the Newton Road parking garage that was technically meant for hospital staff, but sometimes fans could get in if they were lucky enough, and my dad knew how to sweet talk his way in if needed.

We would then have a short walk through this area of medical buildings to the stadium. I remember the leaves changing, hearing the stadium noise in the distance, other Hawkeye fans walking to the stadium with anticipation. Then we would come out on Hospital Drive north of the stadium, it was a quant little street, and at the end of it, we could finally see Kinnick. We would walk under the water tower, which was gigantic to me as a kid, and finally be surrounded by Hawk fans.

I remember the sounds and even the smells. I remember talking with my grandparents on the way to the stadium about the team, the opponent, and what we should do to win. So I don't have a favorite specific memory, but the experience of Kinnick is my favorite part, and that's what makes it magical to me.

It would be great to hear what makes game days at Kinnick so special for every one else. Was it a win? Being there with family? Tailgating with friends? The top notch atmosphere?

And as always, Go Hawks!
Idk I feel like a kid in the candy store when I get there … my favorite place on earth is being at Kinnick watching my Hawkeyes kick some serious ***! Same with my wife … she loves going … this year we are finally bringing our triplet girls who just turned 12 so this will be a memorable season I hope record wise for the Hawks and getting to the playoff finally .. and getting out daughters “baptized” to Kinnick Stadium!

If you get there early enough, you can watch the guy dressed up as Kinnick give his speech in front of the Kinnick statue. It's a tradition that he does before every home game. It's usually done before the Hawk Walk.

I once carried a very large man that had passed out in the BK bathroom through the ped mall after a game. Walked passed several police who knew I was with a couple members of the football team, with this dude on my shoulders (fireman carry). Took him to the Union basement office, hung out a bit to see if he would be okay, then decided to take him back upstairs, into the alley and into a car being driven by the starting TE. Police watched the entire thing and even lol'd and waved as we passed by on the way to the hospital. We put him in a wheelchair and pushed it towards the door and rolled on out.

I couldn't tell you who we played or if we won that day, but I absolutely remember the shenanigans.

Well, there went a minute or two I can never get back. But, it was educational, or at least educational enough to know you're borderline insane.

Is there something you don’t agree with?

There's a lot more material from 2D I could link that points to the same thing

We used to park in a field at the end of Koser St. in University Heights. Lots of cars and tailgaters, loud music, etc. Long before all of the condos that are there now. There was a pretty long steep hill in this tailgating area. A young student at the top of the hill decided to ride his large cooler down the very wet, slick grass. He was going pretty dang fast when he hit a dirt clod or something that sent him and his cooler a good ten feet in the air, head over heels. The cooler exploded with beer cans and ice going another ten feet over him in the air. The entire area of hundreds of people all broke out laughing at the same time. Very loud, very funny. I will never forget it.

Early 1980s. The field across from the stadium was all grass, no hospital, no parking garage. The Double Decker bus always sat right on the corner. Show up early, around 8AM and start throwing the football around. Cars rolled in, set up Kegs, so many Kegs. Brats hit the grill. You didn't have to know anyone, they just said come on over have a beer, eat some food. You didn't have to walk 10 feet and you were invited again. Beer bongs, keg stands. Stumble into the stadium. Tastes Great/ Less Filling being shouted across the stadium (AB did a great job of promoting this). Eric Claptan's song "Cocaine" is being played by the band. The entire student section is singing along, screaming Cocaine at the end. Beach balls being thrown all around the stadium. Girls getting grabbed at the bottom of the stands and being handed all way up to the top. Bota bags flying everywhere full of Schnaps and Whisky. Joints being passed down along the isle. Different times.

The Magic Bus. I used to go to the Magic Bus tailgater in the backyard of a rented house on Melrose near Kinnick (late 80's). One year they had the goal of being the largest Tupperware party on record. They had some old ladies selling Tupperware at a table in the corner of the yard which was full of young hawk fans having a blast (it was like being in a spring break movie). The pre-game event was capped with a Miss Tupperware contest which was won by a guy named "Moose". Great times!

<<Is there something you don't agree with?>>

Umm...all of it?

Well, I'm not sure where the logic presented wouldn't make sense to you.

Maybe you just aren't familiar enough with some of the specifics. So I've linked some material to help fill you in. 2D has been claiming to have me custom code "deleted" from his screen. He's been telling the whole board about it. But evidence continues to pile up that he's been lying to us all.

2D is again laying low, as he hasn't posted since Wednesday. Hoping this will all blow over, as it appears the kitchen has gotten too hot for him. This is now the 2nd recent prolonged break from the board. From an avid poster that had previously posted nearly every day for years 🤔

You certainly do set the standard for lengthy posts that have, literally, no substance.

You are the embodiment of what Steve Martin's character says to John Candy's character in "Planes, Trains, & Automobiles".

"Not everything is an 'anecdote'. You have to discriminate between things that are funny, or interesting, or mildly amusing. You're a miracle! Your stories have NONE of that!"

Try the smoke in the Fieldhouse in upper balcony and in the area in the corridors behind main level.
My student tix at the old fieldhouse were the middle level, pretty sure there were numerous I beams blocking my view. I always took a 6 pack in with me, drink beer and watch the games. I'd fire up a dart and inevitably the usher would remind me that you could only smoke in the concourse.

To may football memories to list but highlights would include knothole games, golfing at the Elks with my dad with the radio going and hearing the crowds cheering and then hearing the call, sitting in the NE corner in the grass, season tickets for 20+ years.

From cutting/hauling firewood in the woods while listening on the game on the radio, to eating pork burgers at melrose and melrose, I shall not forget. Not to mention the 800 car craziness at Olive Ct. tailgates (in my wife's family)...that place can never be duplicated.

The subject matter may not interest you. But there was plenty of substance that helps show 2D's lie. If the fact that you're being lied to doesn't interest you, I guess that's your choice.

On the other hand, you have called me "borderline insane". But have not provided a single reason for having done so.

You've been given the opportunity to explain yourself, and have provided NOTHING of substance

We used to park in the front yard of a house that was on Melrose Circle, no more than five minutes away from the stadium,.. Usually had time to slip out for a couple beers at halftime and then back in to finish the game...

Here we go again. Just a couple hours after being called out for his six day absence from the board, 2Deceptive has returned to fire 5 posts in just over an hour. 🤣

Could have made alot of money on that one

There were two hills there, the longer one had a creek and cattails at the bottom. That hill was great for sledding. The shorter/steeper one was the fun one. Lots of bumps on it. I remember watching people come down that one trying to take it slowly but ended up in a run if they didn’t slip. Those that slipped usually bounced one or two times, except one lady got the gold medal bouncing 4 times.
