But he's not dead. Or Braindead. Or in a coma. Like so many of these super-online right folks said. But the people who listen to them and come repeat their nonsense won't stop. They'll just forget about this one and go on to the next one.
Maybe. Maybe not. This current version doesnt match the known facts (911 call and neighbor statements of him condition being wheeled out comatose). Yet you are latching on to it as 100% the truth.

Radical centrism gets as much attention. Arguably more so.

It’s more difficult than ever now to have any sort of principles as a senator. I think Lindsey did as well as he could for a long time. Legislators from both parties have completely abdicated their responsibilities as a check on the balance of power.

He and McConnell are pros.

If right to life is your thing, you owe McConnell a major debt of gratitude. He is more responsible than anyone else for the overturning of Roe.

In one of the ballsiest procedural moves on senate history, he held up Merrick Garland’s Supreme Court nomination for 293 days until Obama was out of office.

No chance that decision goes that way with Garland on the court instead of Kavanaugh.

Republicans have no idea how much they’ll miss these guys when they’re gone. Same with Pelosi and the Democrats. They’re really good at what they do.
McConnell has his Warr’s, but seeing how he acted as AG, garland would have been a disaster. Plus McConnell is largely responsible for people being able to pool their money for political speech. Not on even ground with the richest people by any means, but at least it’s not limited exclusively to rich people.

The general consensus is his style makes a much better judge than AG. But of course any non-nutball would be a "disaster" to today's "conservatives".

Your post reads like it's complimentary, but all I see is pathetic tactics that while legal, are detrimental to the progress of the country.

Simply put, it's disgusting to refuse to allow a SCOTUS seat to be filled by blocking the nominee for nearly a year.
Doesn't matter who is in office and who is leading up the Legislature.

How the parties use procedural rules to just stop stuff from being accomplished that needs to be accomplished can be seen as smart and creative, or it can be seen as disgusting.

It'd be nice if some procedures changed, but that wouldn't benefit the people who can change the procedures, so here we are.

The guy isn't medically braindead, but he is clearly not right and hasn't been right for a long time.
It is pathetic that people keep voting in him and other old as dirt legislators who are clearly struggling to just not shít themselves each day.

It would suck for him and others like him to know they are braindead puppets being propped up by their staff, but that very thing is what keeps them from even realizing they are puppets.

Come on buddy, the schtick is funny-ish for a little while, but you're way overplaying your hand. No one would really believe some of this shitt. Downshift just a notch if you still want people to keep interacting with you.

Not me, but other people.

Most likely brain dead but they are doing everything they can to keep his heart beating until Aug 3. After that date they avoid a special election, with Massey likely joining in as a spoiler. Thr KY leg passed a law to take the power of appointing a temp successor from the Governor after a Dem won. Special election instead unless within 3 months of a regular election.

Gop Senate now down 2 votes, in addition to Collins being election-constrained and Cassidy not inclined to vote for anything he doesnt like after losing his primary. Party-line vote bills are very unlikely to pass.
Tillis ain't gonna help Trump either.

Won't be any term limits, those that are responsible for creating the bill to be voted on are the ones who are in office. Just really sad situation for the American people.
My term limits would be generous. I would change the Presidential term to 6 years.....making it two 6 year terms. Hard to get much going in just 4 years. Senators would be three 6-year terms. And Congressional Reps would be four 4-year terms.

This. Our system was never set up to handle maximalist tactics. It was set up to run on the honor system. When McConnel chose to try to win by any means necessary, rather than changing enough minds, he broke our country.

Reporting now says Graham put off medical care until after an appearance on Meet the Press in the morning.

I don’t care if it gets locked, but taking joy in the death of a senator seems like a damn good reason for at least a week vacation.

If you’re one of those struggling to understand why some folks might appreciate some of tactics of guys like McConnell or Graham, just consider that it’s not all that rare for the Dems or Trump haters to express open pleasure at assassination attempts, murders and/or deaths of those whose politics they don’t like.

That is not the consensus. You don't want somebody hyper partisan as AG or a supreme court justice. I guess that'd be better as a judge in the sense that he'd be just one vote. But at least with AG it's not a lifetime appointment.

I haven't paid as much attention to McConnell, but Biden and Cochran's later years in office were borderline elder abuse. Even if they would have signed off on it when they were completely lucid, I'm not sure how much better that makes it.

i missed that (or don’t remember it), fortunately.
Did you also miss it when Trump literally posted "Good. I'm glad he's dead." when Robert Mueller died? Can you imagine Obama or Biden ever doing that?

If we want to argue that people are less respectful than they used to be about the recently dead, that's probably true, but portraying it as the fault of just one side of the aisle is not reality.

It’s almost always despicable whoever does it, including Trump. I’ve probably done it myself on rare occasion, and if so, shame on me.

You like to play one side of this but have you read any of the replies on any social media platform for Graham‘s death? It doesn’t matter what their politics are, it’s shìtty to do it to anyone. I don’t care who they are.

And what Trump said about Mueller was shìtty too.

There’s asșhole unfiltered people on both sides.

Yep.

Maybe in the moment the people closest to these politicians think the person can still do what they were elected to do. Or maybe the close aids are all just wanting to hold onto their jobs by any means necessary.

- Feinstein in CA was clearly not in good enough health to legislate in the manner we expect legislators to act. Her shingles hospitalization aside, she was not mentally/cognitively great for the last few years.

- The June debate in '24 showed Biden was clearly not up for running the free world for another 4 years.

- The last few years of Cochran's time in office was filled with physical health issues and mental confusion and lapses.

- Trump's mental decline is clear through his constant inability to cite correct statistics, frequent mis-statements about history, late night unhinged and rants that include countless lies, and his rambling off-topic speeches that often include baseless accusations.

With those 4 examples over the last decade in mind, whatever is going on with McConnell is like another level.
- The multiple freezing incidents from a few years ago are straight up insane to watch. It is genuinely brutal to see the full 30 seconds, or whatever it is, of him being just...frozen. Unable to talk or move. Like a full reset of a buggy glitchy laptop.
- He has fallen like half a dozen times in the last few years, and some are on camera. While that isnt necessarily a cognitive issue, if someone cant safely walk on their own but isnt using an assisted device...I question the judgement of the person and their staff. To me, it points to a person who should not be a US Senator because of their judgement and motives arent in the right place.
- McConnell finally announced he wouldnt seek yet another term...but chose to stay for nearly 2 more years. That is a selfish decision and once again points to poor judgement and motives by him and/or his staff. You phrased it as being elder abuse and that seems like a fair determination.

People who are hospitalized for medical issues are generally not what I am frustrated with, to be clear.
It would be interesting to see if there could be a way to give waivers to legislators recovering from documented health issues so they can vote remotely. There is benefit to requiring in-person voting, but conceptually it also seems unnecessarily penal for people that are recovering from an illness.

I had to go to a ground breaking for a big construction project that Cochran was at a few months before he died. He literally had a guy standing beside him making sure he shook people’s hand as they walked up to him. I felt bad for the guy. You could tell the lights were on but nobody was home.

I dont think Quaoars was claiming it is the fault of just one side.
Quaoars' last sentence says 'portraying it as the fault of just one side of the aisle is not reality.'

I think @She Mate Me was essentially trying to claim its the fault of one side in post 63, and Quaoars was just responding to post 63 by pointing out the other side does it too...which means both sides do it.

As you pointed out- assholes exist on both sides of the political spectrum.

This isnt unique to Democrats or Trump haters.

The group you are struggling to correctly identify here are called 'assholes'. Assholes are who cheer and celebrate assassination attempts, murders and/or deaths of those whose politics they dont like.
Go onto Twitter if you want to feel dirty, and read through all the awful comments whenever someone political is killed or dies. Its disgusting, and its done by people who ascribe to all types of political views.

When the leader of the Free World lacks decorum and tact, society slowly follows. It is easily visible on social media, it is a small overall percent of the population that is actively awful, and all political groups contain some of these actively awful people.

- "Robert Mueller just died. Good, I'm glad he's dead..."

- “I never was a fan of John McCain, and I never will be.”

- “Maybe he’s looking up,” (referring to recently deceased U.S. Rep. John Dingell)

- “Wonderful to see Colin Powell, who made big mistakes on Iraq and famously, so-called weapons of mass destruction, be treated in death so beautifully by the Fake News Media...he was a classic RINO, if even that, always being the first to attack other Republicans...”

- Reiner died "reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME..."

Speaking of taking pleasure in the deaths of those whose politics you dont like, this is from Graham's comments at an event late last year where he was talking about the US' unwavering support of Israel...
"So I just want to say, I feel good about the Republican Party. I feel good about where we're going as a nation. We're killing all the right people, and we're cutting your taxes...We've run out of bombs. We didn't run out of bombs in World War II."

oof.

Rather than you saying what I’m trying to claim, maybe just let folks read my words and decide for themselves.

My issue is with celebrating death and political violence, whoever is doing it. It just seems to have been more pronounced from those I indicated above. I could definitely be mistaken.

In the particular case I’m objecting to here, the leaning of the perpetrator has become pretty clear.
