MJ did not come into the league and bring a bunch of new eyes into the NBA. He grew and developed into must see basketball. So not really an apples to apples comparison. The NBA at the time MJ came in was at it's most brutal stage. They beat up everybody.

I admit to not reading the thread, and have never watched a WNBA game, but why does the NBA supplement the WNBA? Shouldn't they make their own way, or go away?

When I see this viewpoint, the 'they should profit on their own or not exist' claims, I am always amazed that people think the WNBA should have to be profitable at all.

It isn't charity by the NBA, it is smart business from their perspective. The NBA has said as much...many times.

The WNBA expands the interest of basketball as a marketable product. And it brings in some who the NBA otherwise wouldnt reach.
Again, the NBA has said this many times through the last few decades.

I don’t know why people feel the need to try to belittle the WNBA. I know as a dad I constantly preach to my son to support women.

If we want to talk percentages, understand this one… the WNBA is growing 600% faster than MLB. It isn’t going away. The talent coming in the next few years is insanely good.

I understand that not everyone likes basketball. Some men like other men, I get it… I’m not going to even talk bad about it. It is crazy how much some people go out of their way to try to talk bad about something that is growing faster than any other major American sport. If we like America, we should absolutely LOVE a success story like this. Best is coming!

Is it on par with the NBA or NFL? Not even close. But, it is growing quickly and has the momentum.

It’s not for everyone, just like NFL, NBA, MLB, etc… isn’t for everyone either. Baseball has empty seats like you wouldn’t believe.

A lot of grown men I know would rather watch and support beautiful women succeeding in their free time instead of watching and studying ugly dudes in tights. To each their own, I guess.
