Usually you see these and the person getting tossed completely deserved it because they're an idiot. That doesn't seem to be the case here.
Yeah, they were pretty far away. Unless they weren’t supposed to be out of their vehicles or otherwise walking where they shouldn’t, it seems like a case of a pissed off bull.
Edit - seeing that they were in a campground and park officials said they were not doing anything wrong.
This needs to be incorporated into a Mountain Dew commercial.
A couple of years ago we were on a hike at Wind Cave NP and I saw what I thought was a boulder up ahead of us. Then I noticed the boulder was moving. They have a herd on park lands. I told everyone the hike on that trail was ending, and we reversed course. As we went back to the trailhead two more bison came up out of a draw about 200 yards away and I got a little nervous. We accelerated a little, but stayed calm. As we drove out of one section of the park there was a bull standing at the intersection of two roads. He'd have been able to knock our SUV around pretty easily.
I am guessing that dust up move the bison did before getting up and charging was a warning that people just didn't understand until afterwards.
I'd like to know what happened to the kid in green. "Run Grandpa, RUN!"

I work in the Ag industry and we have some veterinarians in the dairy industry that work with us. One of them a guy from Wisconsin who did his Veterinary degree at Iowa State, big old dude former farmer. Said he worked with Bison a bit at times and said he never would do it again, was helping get a calf out the heifer or whatever they call them, and said about 5 mins after the calf was born it the calf charged him and gave him a massive bone bruise in his leg that took a very long time to fully recover from. Said would never do it again!
I don't know about 'laughing it off', last I read he was still in the hospital after undergoing surgery.
We were in the park a little over a week ago. Always have to keep your head on a swivel.
