My little interaction with the athletic department over the last 25 years tells me there are a lot of lifers doing important day to day tasks for whomever the AD and the coach is...there is a lot of power held in the people who have been at NU for the entirety of our futility since 2001. Hope I am wrong...but I don't see this ending any better. I am not convinced this new recruiting will make a difference in the long run. This "Great" recruiting class has not landed on campus yet. We will see after this potentially brutal year how many of those commits actually show up.

2. Our starting qb has a career record of 15-16 as a starter in a lower conference. He also has a 1 to 1 td/int ratio. He is also going to rely on running which will guarentee he is injured for a portion of the season. We have a backup who showed they could not function, even with the best rb in the conference.
3. We don't have a running back...we lost the best rb in the conference and replaced him with a pregnant woman beater who is not going to play.
4. We have new oline and dline coaches...even if they are good coaches it will take time for them to get the bodies and minds to meet their goals. The dline was so bad last year that the d-coordinator was forced to run a scheme where the dline was predicted to get crushed and the back seven would fill gaps. This is why we were historically bad against the run. Both lines did not add talent from the power 4...mostly lower division guys.
5. The schedule isn't "hard" just extreme. We will almost certainly win 4-5 games... but getting to six is going to be difficult...we will have an injured qb at times, we will get beat down multiple times against OSU, Indiana, and Oregon. Having to beat Rutgers for a sixth win should be guaranteed at this point but it is a later season game, and we know how those go.

So, I think we start 5-1. Loss to Michigan State on the road. Then we have Indiana, Oregon, Washington and Illinois in a row which will leave us at 5-5 with a mentally, and physically beat up team. Colandrea gets hurt in there because we have to run him to get value. But we also won't have a running game, so he gets too high of a load until he breaks. Rutgers is then the superbowl...but on the road. After four consecutive beat downs, and likely a back up qb playing...I think that is a loss, and we get drilled by OSU and Iowa to end the season. 5-7 is enough for Rhule to get another year. I ain’t going into 5 reasons stuff.

However, here’s a few:

the schedule: yes, there are more automatic losses than normal. should still go 5-1 to start at worst, and there are winnable games after that. Illinois won’t be the same Illinois of the last few years IMO.

talent: OL will be much better. DL will be slightly better. WR room is good. DBs are equal to last year IMO. LBs are clearly better. QB is what makes it fun.

coaching: both raiolas are gone which helps the OL and the OC. Rhule obviously still sucks though. DC will be an upgrade. Special teams will take a step back, but nowhere near Foley’s level. HUGE prove-it year for Holgorsen and that will determine this teams trajectory.

I don’t have a clue what this season will look like. But, it’s pretty hard to argue with someone that basically speaks in absolutes.

You did just post a bunch of false pieces of information, so I’ll take a swing:

1. Valid point. I can’t really go against the thought process. However, there’s been plenty of recent examples of G5 quarterbacks making the jump to P4 and succeeding at a pretty high level. I think Colandrea is a fit for Dana’s offense, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see it work.

2. First two years at Virginia weren’t good. Can’t argue with that. Had a solid season last year at UNLV, named MWC offensive POY. Looking at #1, just because it was G5 doesn’t automatically mean it won’t translate to P4, especially now as a senior (noted his freshman and sophomore record at Virginia is not good). I don’t know where you’re coming up with the 1:1 TD:INT ratio. He’s thrown a career 49 TDs to 29 INTs.

3. Fair point, yet I wouldn’t sleep on Mozee and Rule appears to be a legit back. Pretty much wait and see, I know, but way too early to claim we don’t have a RB.

4. “Both lines did not add talent from the power 4”. Hmm. OL added Babalade from South Carolina, Mubenga from LSU, and Black from Iowa St. All three come in with starting experience. So you whiffed on that one.

DL additions don’t look as good as OL, yet they all came from P4. Stoudmire from Boston College, Whittingham from Pitt, and Jones from UCLA.

MSU is bad. Like really bad. If you think we lose simply because of Fitzgerald, whatever. The guy lost his luster as a HC quite a while ago.

Maryland should be a win. I think that’s a 5-0 start.

At Illinois is probably 50/50 at this point

At Rutgers - I’ll project a win

At Iowa - historically, it’s been a much closer game than not. I’d say 65/35 at this point leaning towards Iowa just because. But who knows at this point.

4. We have new oline and dline coaches...even if they are good coaches it will take time for them to get the bodies and minds to meet their goals. The dline was so bad last year that the d-coordinator was forced to run a scheme where the dline was predicted to get crushed and the back seven would fill gaps. This is why we were historically bad against the run. Both lines did not add talent from the power 4...mostly lower division guys.
5. The schedule isn't "hard" just extreme. We will almost certainly win 4-5 games... but getting to six is going to be difficult...we will have an injured qb at times, we will get beat down multiple times against OSU, Indiana, and Oregon. Having to beat Rutgers for a sixth win should be guaranteed at this point but it is a later season game, and we know how those go.

So, I think we start 5-1. Loss to Michigan State on the road. Then we have Indiana, Oregon, Washington and Illinois in a row which will leave us at 5-5 with a mentally, and physically beat up team. Colandrea gets hurt in there because we have to run him to get value. But we also won't have a running game, so he gets too high of a load until he breaks. Rutgers is then the superbowl...but on the road. After four consecutive beat downs, and likely a back up qb playing...I think that is a loss, and we get drilled by OSU and Iowa to end the season. 5-7 is enough for Rhule to get another year. Dannon fancies himself a "business man" and not a "football fan". Rhule could easily make it to 2030 as long as the donations keep coming in.

A few things I do with on here. But when you either blatantly lie or just that misinformed about the lines only adding lower level transfers. You probably should never start a post with “Alright, let’s talk football” because you clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

Hmm...got news for you Walleye 1. This "IS" how the fan base tells administration how they feel about the program . You simply longer attend games.

I am in the same camp as FED-UP . At 66 I have followed this program since I was a little boy. The oldest memory was listening to the N-USC game in 1970 on the radio in the kitchen with my Dad.

After a home blowout loss to Ohio State I my wife an I gave up our season Tickets . And after traveling to watch last years Minnesota Cluster **** , ( my wife had already packed it in and did not go) I have decided enough is enough, no more wasting money to watch this mess....

So yes , this is how you respond to what you are seeing. It isn't something I wanted to do , and I had hoped one of the coaching hires would work out . Heck , I thought that while sitting in Levi Stadium , watching us beat UCLA , that Riley was going to turn it around (LOL),

Enough ... I still follow and watch on TV, I won't travel any longer ...
