What on court coaching by Cal angered you most?

That was the most obvious point shaving scandal I've ever witnessed. How he didn't get investigated by the FBI, I'll never know. Of course UK fans were furious with him and rightfully so. They knew nothing would happen to him and it cost us another title.
The second half of that game was officiated rather fairly from what I recall but the first half was the most lopsided officiating I have ever seen. Higgins was all over the court calling anything and everything he could on UK. Haven’t rewatched that game ever but I’d be surprised if he ever whistled UNC for anything during that half. I truly believe something was said to him at halftime as his bias was on full display the entire first half.

I have no doubt that something was said to him at halftime because like you said, the second half was much more fairly called. Even Tom Leach laughed sarcastically at the end of the first half when he called another foul on UK.

My group? What group is that. I’m a single poster on a message board. Must have missed I was part of a group. My hatred for Cal was as UK’s basketball coach, nothing more nothing less. I don’t hate or like cal as a person, don’t know him at all to make that kind of determination. In case you forgot, this board exists to talk about sports. You seemingly take everything personal however but again that’s a “you” problem not mine.
You can play the lone wolf all you want, but anyone who’s spent five minutes around this board knows exactly what “group” I’m talking about. The same lies, the same talking points, the same recycled outrage day after day. You can claim to not be a part of it but you echo the group narrative word for word every post.

This is the same group that pushed the JMI nonsense like it was gospel, claiming restrictions that didn’t exist and blaming them for costing UK recruits. That wasn’t analysis, that was misinformation dressed up as fact because it fit the group narrative. The group calls anyone who questions the group narrative, Brad Calipari (who your group oddly hates too), Mitch Barnhart, a JMI employee or some other ridiculous related person for not following the group narrative.

Your “not a group” group is so well known across the college basketball world that it literally has a nickname… one that isn’t flattering plays off rafters. That doesn’t happen by accident. That happens when a segment of a fanbase becomes synonymous with negativity, entitlement, and constant outrage. People rush to this board after losses to laugh at your hate filled unhinged group.

The best part is all this negativity, all this venom, and it’s directed at a man who has the 4th most wins in the history of college basketball. Think about that for a second. That’s how far gone the perspective has become because of the hatred of your group. He can’t coach a lick, 4th in the history of the game in wins.

Cal gets the flack he gets because he should have accomplished way more than he actually did. He should have had 3 titles minimum, maybe as much as 5 during his tenure at UK. Titles is what this fanbase wants and prestige amongst the college landscape. We got one title in 15 years to go along with our 40 or so NBA players. More embarrassing ncaa losses than titles or final fours. No one has ever done less with more than Cal. He’s still doing it, just not here anymore. Thank goodness.

It could easily be argued that the rooferee kept him from having at least a couple more titles.

I haven’t rewatched it since but near the end of the 2017 game was some of the most horrendously heinous coaching I have ever seen or heard of. Everybody says it was the roofer. It was not the roofer. It was the last time we had the ball down only one point (or possibly two?) and there was very little time left. We had that incredible roster including at the time the fastest ball player on the planet not named John Wall. All we needed was for him or Monk or Bam to score on a simple play and then play defense a few seconds. So what do we draw up in the timeout?

No timeout. No play called on the fly either. No, obviously the thing to do at that point with a Final Four berth on the line is to stumble down the court blindly, getting in each other’s way, then dribble the air out of the ball with no plan until eventually we ran out of time or we turned it over or we threw up a brick, whatever it was. I have no interest in watching it again but it was despicable and it was not Roy Williams’ fault and it was not the roofer’s fault. Both may have done their best to beat us but neither could have done it without that special lift from the guy telling our guys to runnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.
They lie about everything.

I don’t think cal or his family defend him as much as you do. Good grief dude, get a life. The poster you are quoting is not spouting lies. He may not have recalled exactly how the game played out the last minute or so (even says never rewatched it) but not the same as flat out lying,

Get a life coming from a man obsessed with hating another man over basketball. Follow your own advice fraud. You’re a group of people obsessed with lying just to spew hate. The poster I quoted absolutely lied, it seems to be all your group does. He made a specific claim that he used to tear down another man, now that he is a proven liar and what he claims happened didn’t actually happen it’s he “didn’t recall exactly”. What he didn’t recall exactly is the truth because you miserable liars don’t care about the truth.

You’re a message board clown who has provided nothing of substance to UK, you’re quite just a negative crybaby clown who pushes lies when you’re not trashing players or coaches. LOL at thinking you have license to tear down UK legends.

Remember when Nick Saban switched from Jalen Hurts to Tua Tagliovua at halftime of the national championship game? It took big brass balls. Yeah, Cal never had those.
Cal was maybe the best recruiter that ever lived but his coaching skills were never his strong point lol.

Several come to mind, but the one I simply cannot get over is jacking up 3s instead of feeding it to KAT down low in the Wisconsin loss.
Jacking up those 5 3’s against Wisconsin is something I’ll never get over either. Far Cal!

Never stop laughing at the joke that they are.

He didn’t become contentious with the fanbase, the portion that hates him became contentious with him. Y’all still hate him to this day. Y’all run on hatred ignorance and lies. Cal has banners in Rupp, hundreds of great memories, and his name will be hanging there too. You all just have hatred and will be remembered for nothing.
I’m not sure there’s much I’ve agreed with you about but this post will change that it seems.

I disagree with some aspects of your post here but I think you’re mostly right, as far as I can tell.

I still believe Calipari wanted to be here and I do believe he loved this job. I think he felt attacked at all sides by the media and a growing segment of the fanbase.

There were some valid criticisms of late era Calipari — I do think his roster building became outdated. I do believe he was a less-than-stellar tactical on-court coach, but far far far better than most fans, including MJ let on. Much of it was ignorant, honestly. He also really struggled in many of his regular seasons. Fans became conditioned (because of 2011 and 2014) to believe Cal’s teams could be judged by the postseason only. That was fool’s gold and became his undoing. The tournament has a serious level of randomness unless you’re one of those teams of destiny.

I was not on the Cal hate bandwagon and am not on one today. I believe most of the Cal-isms are funny. But I’m also very difficult to anger. If the coach is winning, I don’t care if he does every press conference entirely in Arabic while smoking reefer. I’m admittedly a weird guy.

I’ll always have a soft spot for Cal, but it was time to move on. I hope that Pope can win like Cal did, but I hope his regular seasons are better (I don’t expect 3 final fours in four years from anyone though.)

Definitely the Wisconsin game. Why the **** did he not tell the Harrison twins to stop shooting 3's & feed the ball to KAT every trip down? Frank Kaminsky couldn't stop KAT, it's simple, substitute the twins for Ulis & Booker if the twins wouldn't stop shooting.
We watched a different game. Kentucky was 3/4 from three not counting Aaron Harrison’s final meaningless heave at the buzzer.

The Andrew and Aaron both looked into Kat several times down the stretch but Wisconsin sagged in on him and had multiple guys watching him from multiple angles waiting for the entry pass. It was obvious and the twins saw this.

KAT had a face up game. A very good one. We should have been working that into the offense over the course of the season. But Cal wanted him to show the scouts he could also dominate in the paint.

We needed to take MORE 3’s. Wisconsin wasn’t respecting the outside shot. Because Cal didn’t respect it as an offensive weapon. We were sub 300 in 3pa/g for like 4 years out of a 5 year stretch under Cal at one point.
