  • Population is roughly 560 people, making it the 4th least populous county in Nebraska and the 11th least populous county in the United States.
  • Hyannis is the county seat and only village in the county.
  • The county is approximately 783 square miles, holding roughly 0.72 people per square mile.

  • Sitting in the heart of cattle country, Hyannis was once the richest town (village) in America per capita.
  • The bank in Hyannis has not foreclosed a farm mortgage since 1897.

Terry Connealy – DT 1991-1994, Hyannis, NE.
  • 6’5” 275lb defensive tackle wearing #99.
  • All-State football player out of Hyannis High School.
  • Played at Nebraska from 1990-1994, lettering in 1991-1994.
  • His father played for the Huskers in the 1950’s and his brothers played in the 1970’s.
  • 2x All-Big Eight
  • 2x Academic All-American
  • 1994 Preseason All-American
  • 1994 Team Co-Captain
  • 1994 National Champion
  • Finished his career playing in 37 games making 136 tackles, 18.5 TFL, 14.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and 35 QB hurries.
  • Terry is the only scholarship letterman out of Grant County.
  • His son, Connor, is currently a member of the Husker football team as a walk-on.
  • Nebraska Eight Man Football Hall of Fame member.
  • Signed with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent.

Chuck Hayward
– Born and raised on a ranch near Hyannis, he moved to Los Angeles in 1947 to be a ranch stuntman in western films. It was there he met and became very close friends with John Wayne.

Skeeter Thurston – Born and raised in Hyannis, Thurston was a talented saddle bronc rider who was a 6x qualifier for National Finals Rodeo and 5x qualifier for Canadian Finals Rodeo. Father of world champion saddle bronc rider Zeke Thurston.

Al Davis – Born in Hyannis, Davis served in the Nebraska Legislature from 2013-2017.
