With Landon Robideau declining the U23 World Team spot, Williams will get the spot. Congrats to him well deserved.
As far as Iowa goes, Williams is not going 157. He’s been vocal and has said multiple times that 157 is a NO. Knowing how outspoken he is, I don’t think he’d still be at Iowa if that was what they expected him to do. I’m not saying that means Block is moving up, it does make me think someone is viewed as the better . It just wouldn’t make much sense for Williams to stay if he didn’t think he could beat Block. That’s just how I see it. Curious what everyone else thinks.

From what I've seen lately, Block could likely benefit from some good weight increase.

Block was 149 again when the season ended. If he's put on size maybe he goes up and Jordan down. If not Williams will be 157. Jordan isn't a small 157
Is he staying for sure? And I think some had said he might not be eligible till 2nd semester something with grades? Not sure about that though

I know nothing but if I was put on the sidelines for the NCAAs after wrestling the toughest matches for the team all year, I would have zero trust and would harbor a lot of anger.

Will be interesting to see what happens.

There is the difference between wrestling tough matches and winning tough matches. He gave the coaches zero reason to think he'd actually win them at NCAAs since he lost every single one throughout the year, although doesn't sound like that played into any actual reason he wasn't included. It's no different than Estrada two years ago, sure he was on the mat in tough matches but he showed very little he could actually score or win matches. JW did score a couple times but then gave it away by the time the match was done either from conditioning or shutting down. Honestly the Nebraska match might've been his gutsiest performance and he still lost on sudden victory stalling. I'm excited to give him a second chance this year if he chooses it, see if some maturity off the mat leads to better results on the mat.

Hoping for the best. If Block is better suited for 157, I'm Ok with this situation.

But i sure hope they aren't both gunning for 149, that doesn't seem beneficial.

Wouldn't it be smart to have Block/Estrada/Williams certify for 149 and then wrestle off in the beginning of the season at 153 and have the winner go 149 and the loser(s) go up to 157 and wrestle off the other. The loser has a choice to back-up either weight. Match one: Williams v. Estrada. Match 2: Block v Winner. Match 3: Loser M1 v Loser M2.

It would have made sense to decide it in March for someone to have 7 months to fill out at a bigger weight

True, but we had no idea if Williams was going to stay or not. Still don’t, but it’s looking that way.
This has to be close to an all-time TnT roster conundrum.

This has the makings of another Soldier Salute fiasco!

He's still living in Iowa City so he's obviously gotten past it
Gotten past it or doesn't have any other options? Can't imagine many schools are lining up for the opportunity to be his 4th school in 4 years, especially given the well known reasons for his consistently poor performances.

So what we should do is have an open roster battle between a returning AA who seemingly does everything the right way and a guy who was unable to compete at National's for an undisclosed reason and wants to name his weight. Leaving the team with a suboptimal situation at 157. It doesn’t seem like a situation that could t have been foreseen and the earlier this gets resolved the better. If it’s after the season starts that’s too late.

I don't believe he took any visits . Maybe he wanted to stay all along 🤷
Do you think entering the portal was just a knee jerk reaction to getting benched? Could see him making immature decision like that, or was he delusional that he was a hot commodity?

I'm not sure if WIlliams can get down to 149, but I've been hoping that they would bump Block up since midway through the B10 schedule. I think he's been fighting against his body's natural growth in order to stay at 149...at his height, it's going to be a challenge to continue to make that cut for another two years. He has obviously been able to make the cut, but I think it's only going to get harder for him to make that cut as he continues to mature physically.

So that's why he entered the portal, so he could stay at Iowa? Your takes are getting worse by the day. Seems you're becoming one of those posters that just automatically takes the contrarian stance regardless of how ridiculous.

I know nothing but am willing to bet that he owns a good bit of why he was sitting on the sideline during NCAAs. So I’m thinking the trust and anger might go both ways…

What is more likely -
1. Williams entered the portal while still enrolled at Iowa all as a grand plan to stay at Iowa OR
2. Williams entered the portal AFTER BEING LEFT OFF THE POST SEASON ROSTER in hopes of transferring to his 4th school in as many years where he'd have a clear path at starting?

I mean, who would ever do that?
Which part? Entering the portal with the goal of staying put or being an exhausting contrarian?
As for the former, yes some enter the portal only to end up staying put. But they don't enter the portal SO they can stay. That would make zero sense.

Just wonder if there able to restructure their contract while in portal if they felt under compensated. Specifically if they are receiving offers from other schools. It could become leverage for an increase in compensation with their current school.

Maybe. But in this specific case that would be beyond idiotic.
