The remaining squirrels were eye balling the **** out of me this morning. I fear I have a war on my hands.
Same, I've embraced them. I have a squirrel feeding area away from the bird ones that I put corn cobs on a stand, unshelled peanuts, sunflower seeds for them. They love sweet potatoes too so I make an annual trip to Vardaman to buy a big case of the "Deer Taters" that farmers sell up there which are usually overgrown ones too big to sell for premium grades so they sell them cheap. They used to would let you go walk the fields and pick up your own because they couldn't sell them much anyway. Other fruit and veggies work tooTrain yourself to not give a 17 about squirrels getting in your bird feeders. That’s the solution that worked for me.
I grease my pole about once a year. It’s working.
another option
I did this w/ an antifreeze jug awhile back. It looked ratchet as hell, belongs in the front yard of a mobile home w/ bunch of cars around it, but it worked pretty good. The wife took it down though, she didn't think it was very attractiveMilk jug. Cut the bottom out and tie a string from the feeder to the jug so it hangs. The squirrels can climb to the feeder but can't reach due to being inside the jug.
I tried greasing the shepherd hook pole with vaseline and it worked....until it didn't. They can get into anything. May as well give it upOut of bird feeders!? I’ve read all th tricks and tried a couple to no avail. My solution is a pellet gun but my daughters won’t let me. Any for sure remedies from y’all?
I use wheel bearing grease and just reapply once a year or about the time they figure out it’s climbable again. They just scavenge the ground now for what drops from the feeder. My dog does a great job of watching too. When she sees a squirrel she goes crazy and I let her out to chase them away. Seems to be working. I also attached a painted pie plate to the bottom of the feeder so it’ll bend when they figure out how to get up there. That’s what tells me when it’s time to reapply grease.I tried greasing the shepherd hook pole with vaseline and it worked....until it didn't. They can get into anything. May as well give it up
Thread reminded me of this I stumbled across a few years ago and couldn't stop watching. A little long but the guy is a bit of a nut and pretty entertaining. Reinforces your point that they can get into anything. Sneaky little shlts they are.I tried greasing the shepherd hook pole with vaseline and it worked....until it didn't. They can get into anything.
