I may be missing something but if this is correct (not doubting you) why would anyone do 4/5 versus 5/5 unless they would be over 5 years out and not have eligibility left under 5/5?

They could use the regular RS during the Olympic year.

Can you unenroll, and have that not count? I suspect not, since that date is simply an on/off trigger to the counter.

They could also do 5/5 and sit that same year with the same effect as 4/5 with a redshirt.

No incoming wrestlers would benefit from 4 in 5 as it is strictly worse without hardship or olympic shirts than 5 in 5. Only some current athletes would benefit.

Yes. A couple message up someone said if Levi comes back James should just unenroll and grey shirt. I think the horse is out of the barn.

James could still take a grey shirt him taking summer classes doesn't start his clock unless he's taking 12 credits and no one does that the first summer

Throw a big monkey wrench into the clankity, clankity, clank of the the smooth operating mechanism of eligibility, portal transfers, NIL and everything else. Since they took the last year of eligibility away from Cenzo, Markie and Wonderous Wade Schalles they shoukd all be granted an extra 2 years of eligibility.

I would never bet against the success of Wade Schalles, even now that he’s collecting Social Security.

A few years ago in St Louis I introduced a younger friend of mine to Wade and added my friend thinks he could take you (Wade) down. Freaking Wade's ears perked up and he was all in on that sounds like fun. My younger friend was very busy backing out of the comment he had made 10 beers into the previous night.

Would electing to remain 4/5 give them an opportunity to take multiple redshirts, such as a medical and an Olympic shirt that they could not take under 5/5?

According to others on here, no. That’s why I originally questioned it. If the reports are accurate, the ability to select the old rules seems to make sense only to a very small number of existing wrestlers who would otherwise be out of eligibility under 5/5.

My high school competed against Hollidaysburg every year back in the day when Wade wrestled there. We had a couple of studs at Wade’s weight and each year we’d get psyched up that our guys (who often went into the Hollidaysburg match undefeated) would put the hurt on Wade. What fools we were. IIRC we often beat Hollidaysburg convincingly back then but Wade would destroy our “stud” in the first period.
