OT: Soccer fans, who do you follow?

My family has really enjoyed the World Cup this go around. I tried to get into the EPL a couple years ago, but I didn't really know who to root for and ended up stopping once CFB kicked off.

Which clubs do you soccer guys follow? Doesn't necessarily have to be EPL. Could be MLS or another league.

Tottenham Hotspur, which is like following Mississippi State in the EPL. I started following them when Clint Dempsey played for them and kept following even after he left. The last few years it's been pretty bleak, and the club was nearly relegated last year, but they seem to have a coach who knows what he's doing now, so hopefully things go up. Also, USA coach Mauricio Pochettino used to coach at Tottenham, and took them to the UEFA Champions League final in 2019, which was the high water mark for the club in modern times.

Seems like, to me.......if people want soccer to grow in this country, they'd do two things:

- Have your kid play, if applicable;
- Support an MLS team, whether it's attendance or on TV.

I can't see following the EPL as helping US soccer, but it's the best league, so it is what it is.

Liverpool. If you want to make things easy on yourself, pick one of the big clubs and not a minnow. Big clubs being Liverpool, Man City, Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Paris St. Germain, Barcelona, Real Madrid. Those clubs will win virtually everything in England, Spain, France & Germany as well as Champions League.

My advice to start would be to watch whatever league you want to follow for a while before picking a team. The biggest thing is to find one you like the culture and most importantly, the way they play. Whatever you do pick one where you can regularly watch them. That's the key to really getting into it.

Games are shown on USA and NBC most Saturday and Sunday mornings. If you have a Peacock subscription, you can watch all the EPL games. The season runs from mid August through late May.

I’m a very casual Arsenal fan but the WC may encourage me to follow them closer. My reasoning is kinda silly, but I bought one of the FIFA video games when I was in college and they were really fun to play as at the time, so I just kinda adopted them as my real life team circa 2013.

Yeah, a couple years ago I loosely followed Wolverton because of their association with Robert Plant. But then I realized I have enough losing in my sports life.

Say what you will, but Wrexham. Got into the documentary two summers ago and have genuinely tried to pay attention the last two seasons as much as was practical.

If we had to pick an MLS team, Nashville would be it. Stadium and game day atmosphere are fantastic.

If you’re looking for mediocre clubs with rock star fans, you could also go for West Ham United & Steve Harris of Iron Maiden (Harris was actually in their academy as a young boy), or Watford & Elton John.

I do not follow a single team at all. I watch when I can. I keep having some thought that I would really rather experience a game with zero attachment. Fifa made sure I was not going to any wc game in Atlanta this time around. Absolutely kicking myself (and flopping) for not getting into a game at la bombonera 30 years ago when I had the chance.

That's kind of how I feel about the World Cup right now. I wanted the US do to well and after they made it to the knock out round I wasn't upset it ended there. Now I'm excited to watch high-level soccer to rest of the way.

Well most of them are playing for teams that made the round of 16. League One plays for New Zealand (2), Canada & Curacao. Literally every ranking of leagues has mls somewhere between 10-20 & League one 40+. But hey, you’re right & everyone else is wrong.
