So everybody has UCLA going to the final four with Kustirica right? Right??? Oh wait...
no....they probably have florida, duke, michigan, and a few others as favorites....why.....because these teams have NBA level talent on the roster. we have folks here wanting to give noah more minutes and a chance to prove himself has a JR vs doing want it takes to improve our ceiling with guys like kusturica or spears

He was literally the second option last season for Iowa State, and they were not in the first tier of title contenders. He wouldn't have been the first option for Duke, or Michigan, or UConn, or Houston. He's a complimentary player. You might be able to advance to the Elite Eight if he's your Robin, but certainly not if he's your Batman.
You could make the argument that he was the #1 option on an Elite 8 team as a JR. He migut be 1st All SEC or 1st All American this year. 3rd option lol. Your UK hate shining through

Who said they didn’t want Kusturica or Spears so Noah could get more playing time?

No, but they don't have us going either, or even finishing top 3 in the SEC, so there's that.

But let's keep lowering our standards by using "whataboutisms" with inferior programs.
Or let's continue deflecting and completely turning my question into a quip about UK.

It's rather simple, since Kusturica is a bonafide #1 pick, Cooper Flag reborn, who everyone on this board has been following since he started crawling. Think landing him would have made UK a final four team? And if not, why not? And if he wouldn't have, why did we need him? Wouldn't that mean he isn't UK quality? I'm trying to figure out where the double standard line is drawn.

Because if Kusturica would have made us final four good, he will make UCLA final four good. Since everyone on this board thinks we are a team full of Robbins, scraps, and tweeners.

That has nothing to do with our standards. Pope is, was, and will probably always be, in over his head here. But that isn't what I asked, just what the rage baiters cling to and switch the conversation to. So I'll ask again, with this phenom signing with UCLA, are they in the final four next year? Or is it more likely that this signing wouldn't have even been a blip on most people's radars had social media not told you Pope spoke to the kid.

The *obvious* elephant in the room is that he used the Kentucky name to drive his price up, knowing he was going to to go to UCLA all along, Cronin, with his Serbian assistants had the inside track all the time with him.... I mean, for God's sakes, the kid and his family were enamored with Cronin.

For a coach that throws his players under the bus and has a track record of some really dislikable behavior, I sure would not want any child of mine playing for the little dweeb.

Minute restriction or not, I am going to be interested inseeing exactly how he is used and how much. Drama in his immediate future looks inevitable with Cronin as his coach.

I for one, didn't want his drama in trying to meld with our team that is already bonding, we do not need 17 year old drama. Just like this team did not need Stokes' drama.

Maybe he is the next coming of Cooper Flagg ?

Well, if so ... all I will say is : He is at UCLA.

Do you really think he is going to raise UCLA to an elite and national championship caliber level next year? Or the year after - if he even lasts as long as 2 there at UCLA under Cronin ?

We will see. But I will stick with what we have.

I actually think we're close to being Final Four good, particularly next year when we could return Wilkins, Diallo, Kam, Hawthorne, N'Diaye, McBride, etc. You add Kusturica to that, and you're no longer a bridesmaid dreaming of being a Final Four bride.

Also, the notion that most of us hadn't heard of this kid three months ago is irrelevant to the fact that he's going to be elite by year two at UCLA. Most of this board hadn't heard of Spears or Rosser this time last year. Doesn't change the fact that they are immensely talented and capable of giving UK a star level player if they chose to come here.

So there is no double standard. We are a legit piece away, both this year and next year, of being a true Final Four contender, same as any team in the 10-15 range. For me, Kusturica's second year was the one that I would have been excited about if he came here.

There is no UK hate from me. You love those strawmans don't you. I want Kentucky to get as many elite players as possible, and I'm not going to sing the "I like my team" hymn because of some weird sense of fan propriety, when we're not projected to finish top 3 in our own league.

Yeah, the whole hope in Noah thing confuses the crap out of me. But we probably aren't going to be able to convince fans to change how they fan. Obviously if you are Pope, you had to go after Kusturica even if was a shot in the dark (same with Spears). That kind of talent doesn't grow on trees. But at the same time, this roster REALLY needs Center depth. I believe if we all sat back and weren't emotional about it, we'd see that the likelihood of Kepnang making it through the season healthy is tiny. The fact Potter is going to probably end up having to play significant minutes may be a hard pill to swallow. And we are kinda log jammed with solid but not great wings fighting for playing time behind Milan.

I just don't believe Kusturica would have moved the needle for this team this year enough. Even with him, a lot of dudes already on the roster would need to make significant jumps, especially defensively. And especially not for the money he was commanding. And if there is any truth to the minutes restriction (don't know what to believe there, but doubtful), the needle moves even less. Not sure what our ceiling would have been with him, but I certainly know our ceiling is much lower with a single injury to our Center position.

The standard is still banners, and I don't believe Kusturica would have helped us hang one this year. We need a couple Kusturica's if we are being honest.

You won't get an argument from me on year 2 Kusturica. That's the year he is needed. That's also something technically we could still fight for in the portal (though unlikely).

I will also agree that this team is a piece away, but I don't think it's a wing that we are missing. The jump from Wilkins or Milan to Kusturica is not that high probably statistically, whereas we can probably all agree we aren't sold on our PF spot, or Kepnangs health for the long haul at C. I think that's the missing piece. Like a Spears Jr might make this team instantly a contender instead of a hoper.

We want the same thing, I just feel like Kusturica (year 1) received way too much hype and wasn't worth the money. Year 2, he should, be worth every penny. But I doubt that's at UCLA unless the Serbian assistant coach draw and connection is too much.

I cant belive pope missed another. Thankfully momclivlic stayed in the draft til the end which eliminated many teams budget... and he fell in our laps. Pope is a useless recruiter

I like our team
Will you still like our team when we are perpetually stuck between 15-25 all season? I didn't know the standard at Kentucky was to crack the top 20 and be a sweet-16 team. The slow decline and acceptance into mediocrity continues while Duke is already looking forward to yet another #1 seed.

Solid roster, yes…..contender no. So far Pope hasn’t produced a title contender and won’t if he keeps whiffing on top guys.
This years team is much a contender as anybody else. We have a very solid back court, the best three-point shooter in the country, and one of the best centers in the SEC. There are reasonable questions about our backup center and Williams health and the power. Ford position is an unknown right now until we see them play with this team will be good not to beat anybody.. will they beat the teams they were supposed to be that has been a problem of Popes his first two years here so we will see, but to just write them off as not being contenders is weak.

25-10ish, Sweet Sixteen, 3rd or 4th in the SEC, and half our fans will gladly see it as "positive momentum."

Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Milan would be a solid 3rd option in a title team. At UK, he will be option #1. You do the math.
Holy shart!!! What happened to your tiny font size?!?!

Let's play a game! What seed do you think Duke will be and what seed do you think Kentucky will be? The expectations and standard have 100% been lowered.
