A kid who had been committed to him for four years was diagnosed with cancer and undergoing treatments. He cut him a month and a half before school was to start. Apparently the kid was still playing at a high level, but Bianco didn't like that he would have to go to Mayo Clinic for treatment at times during the school year. The kid's brother is Calvin Harris from their national championship team.
The latest saga for Brett Harris came on Sunday, June 28, when he received a message to call Ole Miss baseball coach Mike Bianco.
"When he got on the call, the first thing he said was, 'We have some bad news,'" Brett Harris recalls.
During that call, Brett was informed that the Rebels were rescinding his scholarship.
He had been committed to Ole Miss for four years, where his elder brother Calvin won a national championship in 2022.
"It didn't hit me fully, because I was like, 'There's no way,'" Brett said. "A month and a half before (going to college), what's a kid supposed to do? You're not giving a kid much of a chance after four years of being loyal to you ... You're not giving him much of a chance to go out and find a new school."
The news came days after Ole Miss had coaches in attendance to watch Brett play, raising a suspicion for Scott.
"It wasn't about his ability, because he's played really well," Scott said. "It was more the concern if he had to go up to Mayo Clinic and leave Ole Miss ... We want to take the high road, but we also want to say our disappointment in letting a kid know a month before a school year is going to start."
