Is everyone here other than the young woman from Sweden? And are they allowed to practice every day for thirty days? Thank you.

Amari Whiting just arrived and is already acting as the team senior leader, integrating newcomers with those already on the team. She seems to be the glue that holds everyone together to form a group. A charming girl.

*Comments from Coach Barrett, Ava, Captain Stremlow, Amari's mom, and... Mya Wilson (?--interesting).

*Is Jocelyn ambidextrous? Wasn't sure if she would go righty or lefty. Maybe just clowning around? I'm like that (lefty with stick sports, kick right foot dominant, punt left footed, etc.) Just curious if she is similar--would possibly indicate no trouble using her left/right hand at the hoop.

Or, they only had a right-handed driver, and she had no choice.

Mya Wilson seems to already be part of the family. A pic with CC in the visit maybe be some special for these girls.

You really think Caitlin is going to show up during visits that happen during the he WNBA season?
Where did you get that i commented said Caitlin must to show up during visits that happen during the he WNBA season? I think you didn't open the link in the comment where there's a picture of Mya Wilson with Caitlin. That part of my comment that you selected is about that.

Wilson originally visited in 2023.. in that visit Clark took pics with her, liked the post, and commented on the post.
Something that happened 3 years ago has very little impact on today's college sports recruiting landscape. Wilson would have been about 14. Just sayin'.

Every person is different. You have 0 clue about the impact it did and still does to her. Making a sweeping claim about every single recruit is extremely ignorant. Just sayin’

Second open practice thoughts. Ladies look a bit tenative at times but were rotating the ball well. Layla still seems a bit mechanical in her thinking. Saw here force the ball twice to the cutter, both times they were covered. She needs to learn if they aren't open to pass it out.

Medina (sp?) broke her nose in the first practice. Big level a lot more phydical. Stremlow's three stroke looked solid. Saw several nice skil passes. Glad Carnegie is back in Iowa City and practicing. Interesting what Barrett said about the 5 in 5 rule.

Overall the team seems upbeat and hungry.

Edit: Journey looks quicker and thinner. Three looks much better.

I know people have expressed concern over the lean roster, but if you factor in the additional experience, this group is better and deeper at every position this year than last.

True except the 4 position

I think they'll be fine with Journey and MW. I know she's a freshman and we went through that last year with Deal. but I think you have to factor in MW's success in international play and being MVP in many of those tournaments. Deal never played in that level. I think MW is the perfect stretch 4 for Jans 4 out offense because of the variety of skills she has, and Journey is no slouch either, especially if she keeps expanding her game.

I'm not so sure. I loved Hanna's individual rebounding and defensive tenacity, but her lack of any outside game whatsoever forced Iowa to play a 2 post high low offense which, were it not for Ava's dominance inside at times became difficult to watch. It remains to be seen how the defense will shake out, but Iowa will be much more versatile offensively specifically because they will be much more versatile at the 4 with Journey and MW at that spot. Teams won't be able to sag off the 4 to double Ava like they did most of last year.

Journey has been working on her 3s, and last season she wasn't too bad, behind Chat at 44%. McCabe and Stremlow at 37% and she was at 36% and considering she played mostly the 4.

I think this is going to be a really good team this coming season and even better in 2 years. It appears to me our biggest weakness is at backup center. I hope Heiden never gets 3 fouls in the first half or 5 in a game. This should be a fun team to watch playing a fun offense.

This will be a key season for Layla growth. If she makes solid progress we'll be in good shape. If not Jan will probably be looking for a back up post next off season. As has been discussed though bringing in someone of quality to play a back up role will be a challenge especially if Ava decides to stay that 5th year.

I agree. The only potential issue with Journey is that she is only 5'11" (she is listed at 6'0 but she is not 6'0. Probably closer to 5'10")

Can Jocelyn Faison fill-in at 4 if MW or JH suffer an injury? Listed as a 6ft1 G but I’ve listened to interviews claiming versatility to play 1-4. Top 100 national recruit & top 3 Georgia player in the ‘25 class. Sort of an under-the-radar addition to the roster.

Don't envy the decision on who will get majority minutes at the two positions up for grabs. Seems it will be a battle to sort out between the 4 or 5 players, and a very short ramp into the non-con season. Interesting that Strem and Amari are roommates vying for this time, perhaps others in a similar situation (not sure), so I hope these relationships get along well through the summer.

Pretty nice luxury to have this kind of talent depth. Imagine these rotation decisions will be a big point of discussion throughout the season. And what will people be saying if Woliczko is coming off the bench in a year following the whole Deal situation? Seems a possibility if the (now) more experienced players need to be out there. Things to keep an eye on as the summer progresses.
