Southwest Suburban talk/predictions

There hasn't been much discussion about the Southwest Suburban Conference this offseason, so I figured I'd get the conversation started.

A few questions for everyone:

  • Can anyone beat Lincoln-Way East this year if they're at full strength?
  • Who's winning the quarterback battles at Lincoln-Way East, Lincoln-Way West, Lockport, and Lincoln-Way Central?
  • Which team has the best chance to make a run to the state finals?
  • Who are the top sophomores and freshmen in the conference that everyone should know about?
Here's how I see the conference shaking out:

  1. Lincoln-Way East
  2. Homewood-Flossmoor
  3. Lincoln-Way West
  4. Lockport
  5. Sandburg
  6. Bradley
  7. Andrew
  8. Lincoln-Way Central
  9. Stagg
Curious to hear everyone else's predictions. Who am I too high on? Who am I sleeping on?

I think Sandburg will be really good, especially on offense. Quinn Durkin is a great RB who just committed to West Point and I know a junior to be WR from MC transfered there because he didn't want to wait behind the arsenal of receivers MC has in front of him but he was pretty talented too. I think they will finish much higher then 5th.

Isn't Bradley-Bourbonnais still in that league?

LWE looked ripe for the taking without Jonas last year. Obviously they'll be better than that with this years QB having the reigns all summer. But it did raise some concerns for me.

Some years ago, back when we would have competitive games with LWE a buddy of mine and I went and saw a random LWE game (I think we had a weird Thursday game). But the backup QB got in and he was prepared to play and possibly better than the starter. Over the years far as I could tell LWE always had prepared backups. Not so last year.

Also, LWE was noticeably smaller on D than I was accustomed to last year. No they didn't give up a ton of points, but offenses like NN and Sandburg were the types that East would normally blank especially if they needed to.

Finally, against MC I dont think they had the correct gameplan on O or D. Jonas was never going to have time in the pocket for deep routes. The East DBs were never going to match up with the MC WRs. We needed short quick passes and to pressure the MC QB instead dropping so many into coverage.

I think there's no clear front runner. Should make for an entertaining race.

I agree with this

the LWE short game was working and rather than sticking with it; they tried to go route for route against MC…

Surprised to see LWC predicted so low. Thought they were pretty good this past year. They lose a lot? Or just going to have a lot tougher schedule?
