I hate soccer and won’t watch the World Cup Thread.

Just a heads up, I'm heading off to the shore for the next few days, so I'll miss today's games, and probably Thursday's game as well. (I'll probably post about them in the evening, but not during the game.)
Do all Pennsylvanians migrate to the Shore for their summer vacations?

I don’t get the attraction, but then I’m not from Pennsylvania.🤷🏼‍♀️

A mass of Yorkers, Jersians and other undesirables crowding already littered beaches isn’t my definition of a vacation.

No. I wouldn't even call this my summer vacation -- just spending a few days with friends.

Someone said eliminating offsides in the box would be a big improvements. How much would that alter the game?

With the 2026 World Cup winding down, I was “thinking” (😞) how we would know if any increase in the popularity of soccer in the U.S. was sustained.

Increased betting activity? Of course, more people losing their a$$es in soccer doesn’t necessarily mean that more people like the game. 😞

Higher-profile broadcasting of MLS games with increased ratings? I don’t know when and where they are broadcast now.

Higher-profile broadcasting of European soccer games with increased ratings? Some English Premier League games air on NBC on weekends.

Marked increase in kids playing youth soccer? It would take some years to see if such growth were merely a blip or sustained and significant.

Thoughts?

To the folks this bothers....oh well. It's not taking over American football, is growing still in this country, and nobody is forcing you to watch anything so you're safe. Why you decide to miss out on Saturday morning roller coasters in the EPL is your choice. Nothing better in the fall than EPL right into College kickoffs.

EPL with my after-workout breakfast and coffee, hard to beat that.

This World Cup soccer horse-a$$ ends on July 19th. Just a few more days and we can get back to being American.

My son-in-law is a huge soccer fan, played competitively in high school and college.... me, not so much

I am a huge hockey fan, played goalie for 30+ years... my son-in-law is clueless about hockey

I will often bring him to Dallas Stars games and explain the game to him in a comically condescending manner, while every four years i get the same treatment from him watching World Cup matches. Over time we have both developed a sense of appreciation for each other's passion.

He and I are taking his 8 year son to a match here in Dallas... $800/ticket for nose bleeds.
Ice hockey and soccer are not that different. Of all the sports, soccer is probably most like hockey. The concepts/strategy are very similar.
