What are you basing that on lol? Do you know how many 3 and 4 star kids started for the last 5 National Champions? You are ready to throw this kid away and haven't even seen him play yet SMH
Sure I'm pope recruited him . Pope has NV had a championship caliber player outside of oweh but Oweh had the wrong coach .

It's kinda funny. There's a 6'2" 195 lb guard who wasn't good enough to play at a place like UK either, according to some of the posters on here. Check out this 3 Star (79.0) Rated Prospect below.

2021-22 (Iona): 7.3 PPG, 1.7 RPG, 1.6 APG
2022-23 (Iona): 16.8 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 3.2 APG (Named MAAC Player of the Year)
2023-24 (Florida): 17.6 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 2.6 APG
2024-25 (Florida): 18.3 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 3.5 APG

National Championship
NCAA Tournament MOP
2x All-SEC
2x All-SEC Tournament Team
SEC Tournament MVP
NCAA All-Region Team
All-American

Verses the "isn't good enough for valuable minutes at UK", 6'2" 195 lb guard who's father played in the NBA, comes in as a 4 Star (90.0) and 109th overall Rated Prospect.

Too many people speak in ABSOLUTES. Mason Williams might never see the floor. Mason Williams might lead us to a title one day and be a lottery pick. Mason Williams might stay here four years and become of the most loved PG's to ever do it here. Mason Williams might transfer out after this season. Stranger things have happened. But to pretend like he isn't good enough to play at UK is laughable. UK has ran multiple guys out there with heavy minutes that were worse than Mason Williams.

Question for the, this guy isn't UK worthy crowd, but this guy over here is:

Who has a better statistical season, Mason Williams Freshman year at UK or Jasper Johnson's Freshman year at UK?

I said nothing remotely close to that. Since I exposed your point as irrelevant you just tried to change the subject?
Buddy, I couldn’t care any less about what you said. You had nothing to do with any of the posts I referenced. You came in all hot with Popes junk in your face (where it normally is).

Cowboy was talking to another poster about what Hurley and Golden get done with three and four stars. Cowboy said Hurley hadn’t done jack in his first two yrs. Assume he meant at UConn. My point was, Hurley had an entire body of work that showed he could win prior to UConn. He also inherited quite the mess. Probation and NOT in the NIL/portal era. Point being, Hurley at least had some evidence he could get crap done. Pope didn’t and still doesn’t. Hell, he could figure it all out. Or he could continue to just be the same milk toast he’s been his entire coaching career.

If you couldn't care less about what I said you wouldn't have responded to it in the first place. I exposed your comment as obviously off base.

I'm not buddies with full on negative crybaby's such as yourself. Absolutely everything you said is wrong as always with some vulgarity thrown in there just to show you are a lowlife individual. Hurley won at a 62.3% rate in 2 years at Wagner and 57.9% in 6 years at Rhode Island. After 2 seasons at Uconn (really four as year 3 and 4 were 15-8 and 23-10) he had proven absolutely no more than Pope has for his career. Hurley was at 60.8% at UConn after 4 seasons. The facts are at odds with all your whining and that is something you just can't handle.

You call yourself "patient and hopeful"....why not call folks with a different opinion "positive and optimistic"? Half the board gets away with calling the other half "Sunshine Pumpers" and "Pope Slurpers" any time they want and it's BS

You are the Number one hypocrite on this site, little fella

I responded because you’re a try hard dork that can’t keep his lips off of Popes junk.

Hurley had a conference title, a conference tourney title, and two NCAAT wins. All things that seemed to have escaped Pope prior to UK.

Keep “exposing”. From your knees. You’re awesome at it.

You are just a clown with a classless mouth. There is nothing all that impressive about an A-10 title and tourney in year 5 and 6. It was much easier to accomplish than what Pope was up against at that point of their careers. Of course this discussion comes after you moved the goal post from your original insinuation that Pope had been coaching a lot longer when he arrived at UK than Hurley had pre UConn.

Yeah, the WCC was world class. My fault.
Pope twice finished second to Gonzaga who finished #1 and #2 in the national AP poll those years. Are you claiming the A-10 had an equal to Gonzaga that Hurley overcame?

There were no A-10 teams in the top 25 the year Hurley won the tourney or his regular season title.

Pope also finished 2nd twice to New Mexico St in 2018 and 2019 while at Utah Valley who didn't even start their BB program until the 2005 season.

You are just being an idiot. There is no substance to your argument just low brow unassociated insults. You dodged addressing all the facts and went for the low class garbage as usual. Are you actually contending that Hurley winning the A-10 which had no ranked teams means he would have beaten out Gonzaga in the WCC if the positions were switched? That is of course rhetorical as no one, not even you is that dumb.

I’m not watching a 45 minute video to decipher what you’re talking about.
You are totally within your rights to remain ignorant but I see no point in telling everyone that you prefer ignorance because you are too lazy to watch a video. You do realize you didn't have to watch the full video and even 5 or 10 minutes would have provided you with more knowledge about his game than you currently possess?

All I did was post a video about Mason and he acts like I was trying to make a point. Mason IS the guy many here said will not get minutes. Maybe he got defensive about that fact. 🤷‍♂️

I'm actually excited about Mason Williams. I think it's always wise to sign NBA legacy kids because a ton of them turn out pretty solid.

Scottie Pippen Jr. - three star out of high school. Averaged almost 18, 5, and 3 through 90 college games.
Steph Curry - three star out of high school.
Anthony Mason Jr. - three star out of high school. Ended up being a 14ppg guy for St. John's.
Glen Rice III - three star out of high school. Ended up being a 13ppg guy for Georgia Tech.
Reed Sheppard.
Ronnie Brewer - 4 star out of high school.
Tim Hardaway Jr. - 3 star out of high school.
Larry Nance Jr. - unranked (was a 16 and 7 guy in college).
Gary Payton II - unranked (averaged 16, 8, and 5 during his sophomore year).
Jamal Mashburn Jr.
Klay Thompson - barely a top 60 guy out of high school

Here's some others who didn't fly under the radar as much:

Shareef O'Neal
The Boozer Twins
Glen Robinson III
Damien Wilkins
Gary Trent Jr.
Mike Dunleavy Jr.
The Barry Boys
Rex Chapman
Luke Walton
Jalen Rose
Austin Rivers
Nolan Smith
Jerami Grant and his brother
AJ Griffin
Dylan Harper
Patrick Ewing Jr.
DJ Wagner
Jalen Brunson
Devin Booker

Hurley won the A10 one season and the A10 tourney another season. Full stop. He also won two NCAAT games. Full stop.

Do I believe Dan Hurley accomplished more than Mark Pope before either of them took their current position? Yes, I most certainly do.

He won a league which had no ranked teams in it. He would have never won the WCC those two seasons coaching BYU against Gonzaga who was ranked #1 and #2 nationally those two seasons. I have very clearly explained this to you but you pretend not to get it because it totally destroys your position.

You can believe what you choose to believe but it is demonstrably incorrect.

Wait…So Mark Pope only coached in the WCC those two years? Odd, I seem to remember it differently.

Weak effort since I never said that. Did Hurley only coach 2 years in the A-10? Obviously we have been comparing Hurley's regular season and tourney titles in the A-10 against Pope's 2nd place WCC seasons. There is no way you didn't comprehend this. You are simply trolling as usual.

Anyone taking the bias off can go do basic research and see this is correct. I did a review on early-career Pope and it was clear, despite having no conference championships, that he had chops as a program builder. Comparing his WAC run, where he left shortly after building a conference contender or his WCC run where Gonzaga was on the strongest run in program history to other coaches who won conference titles in their early careers is a bit of a reach. If Pope stayed two more years at Utah Valley rather than taking the BYU promotion and netted a conference titles, would anyone reasonably look at his career that much differently? No. Why? Because he’s at Kentucky, with Kentucky resources and Kentucky expectations. That’s what will decide his success, failure or anything in between.

I’ll also note that Coach K won zero conference titles prior to Duke. We can talk about why — context matters there just like it does for Pope or any other coach. Unless we really aren’t in it for the truth and just want to win the imaginary culture war.

There is no honest verdict yet on Pope. That’s what most of us are waiting on.

Talking out your rear

Hurley prior to UConn: 151-105(.590)
Mark Pope prior to UK: 187-108(.634)

Hurley 1st two seasons at UConn 35-29(.549)
Pope 1st two seasons at UK 46-26(.639)

So in truth, not only was Pope better before they took their current gigs, Pope was better in his first two seasons. In other words, half of BBN would have fired Hurley before he built a dynasty. FACT

Should add in his high school record at St Benedict where he dominated.. He built that school into a national powerhouse.. 223-21 record in 9 years .. Turned his first year at Wagner,, 13-17,, to 25-6 his second year.. 26-8 last year at Rhode Island.. All the signs were there he'd be a good coach eventually.. Poope is still Pooping along..
