BREAKING: Four-star WR Khalil Taylor commits to Nebraska
Nebraska has landed a commitment from four-star WR Khalil Taylor, overcoming Penn State, Colorado and more for the top-100 prospect.
Honestly if you belong to the Red Scrolls they have 2 pages already on the commitment. What's crazy to me is a top 100 WR commits to NE and there are only nine replies. This reply being the 10th after several hours have passed since the WR's announcement. That just shows the state of this board and or the state of recruiting. Both are negative in my eyes.
Indiana was the first to figure it outNow that players are no longer held hostage by the school, it is not as much fun to follow HS recruiting.
At the P4 level, unless a kid is just a freak, your goal as a coach should probably be to not start anyone that isn't 20 years old or older.
Held hostage? Oh the travesty of getting recruited and playing big time athletics. And having to sit out a year on full scholarship if you change schools. Free food, stipend, free lodging. Then go pro or go out and get a real job. And they gladly signed up for it.Now that players are no longer held hostage by the school, it is not as much fun to follow HS recruiting.

I mean...we have seen that once they were able to move freely, like normal people, that they clearly felt like they were held hostage. Look how many players enter the portal now that they have freedom of movement.Held hostage? Oh the travesty of getting recruited and playing big time athletics. BYU though lolIndiana was the first to figure it out
Good point! HaBYU though lol
This is me. As much as our current recruiting success makes me happy, any excitement is totally counteracted by the realization it could all fall apart if other teams start to outbid us for the better players. Or, that they may spend one year here and then transfer. And it will also be hard to retain these recruits if our upcoming season sucks and social media explodes with anti Rhule sentiments..I think most CFB fans feel the same about H.S. recruiting now, which is to say, "meh, lets see if he sticks to his commitment, and doesn't bail after one season..."
I wonder if it is easier to keep recruits now because of the money? This is me. I wouldn't think most players consider it being held hostage per se, but like you say some of those guys clearly are trying to find a better opportunity or just get out of a big situation. But there are a lot of factors at play when it comes to the transfer numbers. The NIL thing is creating some of this movement both with kids trying to earn more money elsewhere and kids being squeezed out by new guys being brought in. Neither of those factors existed several years ago.I mean...we have seen that once they were able to move freely, like normal people, that they clearly felt like they were held hostage. This is what I foresee. Nebraska actually getting great players and then losing them in the portal. It hasn't happened much yet, but we haven't had a lot of players who would start at better schools and we haven't won. Everybody loves a winner. If we win more games, there will be more Wandales and Boerkechers. This is me. But they CAN move freely. That is the point. Most normal people can move freely year to year.I wouldn't think most players consider it being held hostage per se, but like you say some of those guys clearly are trying to find a better opportunity or just get out of a big situation. I also think that the one year sit out as a transfer actually helped a lot of kids by discouraging transfers. Staying put and working through the challenges in front of you is a life lesson. "Normal people" don't actually move freely year to year.
They can move freely. They just couldn’t play for a while. Playing college football isn’t a right. I couldn’t transfer in my academic program either. Life’s a *****. Lots of trade employers have gone to restricted contracts where they’ll pay for your school but you have to agree to work for them for 2-4 years OR you’ll have to pay them back plus interest and a penalty. That would be reasonable for NIL.But they CAN move freely. That is the point. Most normal people can move freely year to year.
But that is not the rule for players, so what does it matter if "lots of employers" do that? They can move freely. They just couldn’t play for a while. Playing college football isn’t a right. Yep
And, I know some posters will get mad, but Bo would have LOVED the portal. He would have loved getting older dudes with a bit of a chip on their shoulder that just wanted to get coached.
Is it? ESPN had a study that 54% of football players make it out of the portal. And how many of those kids bettered their situation? Half? Some move up. Some move down. The vast percentage of them overestimate their market value. Not to mention the 30-40% who never play again. But that is not the rule for players, so what does it matter if "lots of employers" do that?
The rule was horrible...it changed and now it is clearly great for the players.
The word "closer" has two distinct meanings, not even pronounced the same, but.....
Because he is retired...after making millions.Could have? He's still alive isn't he? So, why isn't he out there killing it with the portal? Oh right...
I am taking about the freedom of movement. The end result is what it is...I don't care about that part.Is it? ESPN had a study that 54% of football players make it out of the portal. Much has been said that coaches can move so the players should be able to as well. Fine. I won't lose any sleep over it but a lot of times a coaching change can help existing players on a roster. A fresh start. These days most new coaches want to clean house and they can now because of the ridiculous transfer rules.
Dual meaning. You can pick whichever one you want. Both apply.
We'll disagree on this. While freedom is nice, there's always a trade off.I am taking about the freedom of movement. The end result is what it is...I don't care about that part.
I care that they have the option to move without having to sit out a year.
Yeah, the trade off is not being free. We'll disagree on this. While freedom is nice, there's always a trade off.
There are limits to all freedoms. You think a player should be free to switch teams mid-season?Yeah, the trade off is not being free.
