I can tell what they should do....lay their positions on key issues on the table...immigration, taxes, deficits, military, education, healthcare (pick a couple, they can't walk and chew gum at the same time), walk to the other chamber or white house and ask how we can start to work solutions.

But they won't

The day after the new house or Senate is sworn in they'll start laying the groundwork for 2028

The main priority should be to put forth policies that help improve people’s access to the American dream. How do we handle the rise of AI in the workplace? Cost of education/housing? How do we incentivize more entrepreneurship and less corporate oligarchy? Eliminate tariffs. Take back control over war powers and the power to enter into treaties. And the like.

And yes of course oversight should perform its function of overseeing the executive branch and investigating any power abuses. But that is secondary to actual leadership. Lead by example and with visionary ideas. It would be a big mistake for the Dems to come into power and simply make everything about Trump’s mistakes. Don’t lose sight that your role is to represent your constituents primary concerns which are mostly about the pocketbook.

I think a lot of what the Dems do depends on if the Rs end the filibuster. If the Rs end it, I think the Dems pass endlessly popular bills daring Trump to veto them. If the Rs keep the filibuster I could see the Dems trying to pass stuff but then giving up when the Rs block it all and the news reports it as a Dem failure instead of an R failure. Which you know they will.

And since the Rs won't end the filibuster you know which option is more likely.

Investigations. Rs will block everything so all the Dems really have are investigations.

I will say, however, that the Dems can do some interesting things with reconciliation. That can't be filibustered. I would love to see them pass tax cuts for working class people, tax hikes fimor rich people, and dare Trump to veto it.

First of all, Trump and every MAGA nationwide (and on here) will scream about how the election was rigged. Despite no evidence AND the Republicans being in charge of the entire government, conspiracy theories will run wild about cheating libs and election tampering. Our own @TigerGrowls will post 10 plus "smoking guns and silver bullets" a day, NONE of which will be true, but if someone tweets it growlz will believe it... All that's required is that it be pro Trump.

As for the Dems, I predict that they will collectively behave like a tiny dog with ADHD that just got a bone that's bigger than it is. They will shake, bark, piss on the floor and roll in it. And instead of trying to get anything done, they'll spend the next two years f'ing up all the good will that they got for the midterms... you know like the Republicans in the last two years. Say what you will about the Republicans, but the Dems have never seen an opportunity recently that they couldn't f up.

Traditional dems aren't even TRYING to ask why people are voting for policies they like. They have turned all their energy towards punching down and clutching their pearls. I expect them to crash out and get nothing done.

Banning members of Congress and the Execuitve Branch from trading stocks
Setting congressional term limits
Expanding federal substance use disorder treatments
Funding veterans' employment initiatives.
Ethics and Governance: Restricting policymakers from lobbying former colleagues and banning officials in all three branches of government from trading stocks.
Online Child Safety: Pushing for federal regulations, such as the Kids Online Safety Act, to protect minors from addictive algorithms and predatory behavior on big tech platforms.
Infrastructure and Technology: Maintaining the nationwide deployment of high-speed broadband and funding large-scale public works.
Labor and Wages: Boosting tax incentives for companies that hire military veterans and increasing the baseline federal minimum wage.
Criminal Justice: Curbing abuses in the Civil Asset Forfeiture system to increase transparency and raising levels of proof

Literally, the things that pop up when you google for bipartisan issues.

Now Republicans are not going to want to do these b/c Dems will get credit for them. But you are still going to get some crossover votes for it. Trump is REALLY not going to want to do it b/c it's not him passing those bills. But he's going to have two choices, neither of which is especially appealing to the Republicans... He can veto popular items, showing more of the same kind of politics that pervaded the last 2 years. That will set the stage for a big win by Dems in 2028. OR he can sign the bills, showing that the Dems CAN get things done even with Trump in the WH. That can also se the stage for a big win by Dems in 2028. So if the Dems can actually control themselves, they will be set up for a big time chance in 2028.

Will they actually do it? I wish, but I don't think so. This after all, is the party that has literally allowed the worst POTUS in the history of the US to get elected (TWICE!). I have GREAT CONFIDENCE in the Democratic Party's ability to manage to screw this up.

your list is fine..But, I'd really like to see the Congress, no matter who controls either chamber, concentrate efforts on the really big things like healthcare, immigration, the deficit, just to name a few. We need to start someplace to get control of these things.

Now we could debate forever if they Congress kicked people off healthcare and enriched themselves. well, I don't follow infrastructure so I can't comment on that...but at the time I did follow Obamacare, and the result so far does not meet the stated goals. Now, some of that is not obama's fault..the ACA formed a good foundation, but we need to make some modifications...
