Maybe so, but Trump didn’t want to make an exception for those who represent us well, instead he wanted to end citizenship for ALL birthright cases along the lines of Balogun’s.

Which does make it kinda funny that he’s now become the big advocate for one of those anchor babies when he’s winning us World Cup games.
Balogin's family were in the Country legally, they were prevented from flying home due to his Mothers pregnancy.

I really don’t want to be guilty of making this thread political, but I’ll just say this doesn’t change the point. Trump also wanted people who visit legally on tourist visas to lose citizenship for babies born during the visit (like Balogun). In fact, that’s precisely the sort of “anchor baby” scheme the right has long claimed is being abused.

Which, again, is what made me chuckle a bit at Trump now going to bat for one of those guys.

The Balugin family didn't come here to have a child, they tried to go home to the UK. If you can't see the difference in that, and someone that comes here to have a child for citizenship or entering illegally and having a child then you don't want to see the difference.

Either way, I'm glad Balugin is on the team, and available, he's a difference maker.

I can see the difference. But the point wasn’t about me. Not sure why you’re having trouble grasping that. The point is that the dude in the White House couldn’t see that difference …because he wanted no special exceptions for tourist visa babies in his situation.

I was just pointing out the irony of him now advocating for one of those guys. No big deal. You seem to be trying to interpret my intent as something more than that. It was not.

And, yeah, I’m damn glad Balogun is playing too.

False. He wanted to stop it GOING FORWARD.

You're mischaracterizing his position.

And it's not disputable that on the grand scale, birthright citizenship is a death warrant for our country.

I'm going to bow out here because if we get into a big debate on politics the mods will shut down this thread.

Let's agree to disagree and not get into a big rock fight.

Yes, your only point is to hate on Trump (that dude in the White House) because you're a sodden lefty.

I didnt like the Kane PK because both players were going for the ball and the Mexican player wasn't involved in a scoring opportunity.

The 11 minutes of stoppage time given was absolutely ridiculous. The fact they got over 12 minutes extra is even worse. Felt like the fix was on for Mexico, glad England held on.

Wonder wall at the end is awesome, even cooler in person. When me and my kid went to Atlanta we were leaving and thankfully got stuck in the crowd and heard it first hand. Gave me cold chills to see that many fans so happy, loyal and rooting for their team.
You can have Wonder Wall. About about being in a sad state. I'll take Country Roads all day, any day.

I’m not a “sodden lefty”, and despise much about the far left. In fact, I don’t regard myself as a lefty or righty (as inconceivable as that might seem to some).

But it’s clear you can’t even say the word Trump now without people becoming irrational and misinterpreting intent. So I apologize to the rest of the board for having helped steer this thread in that direction.

There is a certain irony to Trump going to bat for Balogun given why he’s American.

He’s never actually lived in the US and is only a citizen because he happened to be born here while his mom was here on a tourist visa. In other words, a classic “birthright citizenship” case of the sort Trump hates and has been trying to get rid of.

Seems those anchor babies ain’t so bad when they’re helping us win World Cup games.
Timing is everything. Thankfully the Supreme Court struck down the EO and, evidently, Trump is abiding by that ruling. Yay!!!

He’s a great American with a weird Wisconsin accent.

2 VARs and a water break is why stoppage is going always be 10 min+ of stoppage. As well as stoppage for the English diving everywhere trying to kill the clock a man down and playing in Azteca

Trump doesn’t care about the anchor babies of the past. He may not have cared at all. He has to do something to throw red meat to the Laura ingraham wing of republicans who all they talk about is immigration. Remember Trump himself is a first gen American. And he’s married to an immigrant. His son like him is first gen American. This crap has nothing to do with World Cup soccer. I feel like libs putting a spotlight on that are trying to humiliate balogun to get shots in on Trump. Libs would and are Sabotoging our game tonight because they hate anything Trump touches. Trump brought the World Cup he closed the deal to bring this massive sporting event that has been great for America. But hey, this team isn’t like the women. They pray. They don’t wave their little pride flags and all they do is futbol futbol futbol. Libs hate we have a team in image of traditional America.

Saw video of some Mexican fans last night treating to slit some British fans throats. Didn’t look too wholesome. Still, would rather be there than Neyland.

Mexico looked better 90% of the game and deserved to win but they just couldn’t put it together. Sad but you can’t blame anyone but yourself

France has some really fast, skilled guys, but Paraguay played them tough.

I would have rather seen the US play without Belogun, and rally around the adversity. Beating Belgium will be tainted now and has also given Belgium an emotional edge.
Paraguay packed the defense and played for penalty kicks. It almost worked.

Not sure the situation in the other examples, but the Flo issue is so unprecedented that Belgium says it’s defending all of football by appealing. My point is that judgment calls are not overturn. Again, that’s what is scandalous here. As a US soccer fan, I don’t like this at all.
stop sniveling and virtue signaling. The red card was ridiculous, and American culture is all about fixing things and righting wrongs. As an AMERICAN, this is right in my wheelhouse.

That was the best game of the tournament so far, but for the life of me, I cannot imagine any American pulling for Mexico. Like a UK fan pulling for UL. Tell me you don't know about USA soccer without telling me you don't.

They are the USA's biggest rival in soccer. Not even close. And they have beaten us plenty. Mexican fans have thrown things at American players in games played in the USA. There have been important qualifier games played in the USA where Mexican fans were the majority of the stadium. Find out stories from ex players what it is like to play in Mexico. You will be amazed.

Yea, awesome job England, and &%$@ off Mexico.

I always find it wild when someone whose political opinions I deeply admire offers a sports take that I find absolutely terrible. Or vice versa. When we perfectly agree about sports but would come to blows over politics, or again, vice versa Those misalignments always surprise me, though on some level I know they shouldn’t.

Lol.

it hurts the integrity of soccer to change the rules because of political pressure.

of course the red card was bad. Of course it’s convenient to cheat the system to your advantsge. Of course I want to win. But not at this cost. Of course I am sure such a principled response won’t be popular.
