He turned down opportunities to play D3 baseball. It wouldn't matter if he wasn't good enough, regardless. Again, this is more of your raging insecurities being displayed (and your illiteracy). My kid used his 1540 SAT and top grades to get himself into one of the premier programs in the world for comp sci/AI. He determined he wouldn't have time to do what he wanted in AI (and complete it in 3 years) and also play baseball. I agree.
I played college ball. It's not a big deal. HUGE time suck now, though. Much worse than when I played.
It's OK that you think turning down the opportunity to play D3 ball is some kind of laughable failure. It doesn't seem like you obtained any college degree, but if you had, it would have been from one of the throwaway local schools that mouth-breathers attend just to play ball and major in "undecided."
The younger son projects to be even smarter/more accomplished than the older one, and I'm actually gently dissuading him from college baseball, though he still seems intent on pursuing it. Hard to convince a 16-year-old who has aced just about everything he's ever done that pursuing a degree at MIT, Amherst or comparable institution, while playing baseball seems like fun, but may not be the smartest choice.
