No foreign trip, but a trip to Vegas to watch Summer League games and Kenny Chesney.

A vacation vs actually playing??

Rudderless ship.

Just when you think Pope couldn’t be more clueless if he tried, he shows that he actually can be.
A vacation to vegas at that. With no structure or playing what could go wrong? These guys have a short period to train, get stronger, and come together through playing the game. We have up an opportunity to play 4 games in the bahamas for this? This doesn’t bode well for our season. Pope is weird he does weird stuff like this. Sure the players will love it but they don’t know what it takes to win. Pope is supposed to but he doesn’t know. These guys should be working their butt off now and all summer so when October hits we are ready to go. Popes laid back lackidasical approach is why hes having trouble at UK. He needs to work their butt like cal did. Our guys were fit and they were together after going through difficult preseason work outs with cals assistants. We have mark Fox working our guys. And I promise some of these guys are like WTH is going on? Have fun mark the more decisions you make like this the less of a chance you ll be in Lexington next year. We can’t win like this taking vacations.

So if they had gone to the Bahamas and played a glorified pick up game that would’ve been 10x better?

bro your such a fool you talk like your smart or know anything but you don’t. How bout instead of being an unemployed loser on rupp rafters you go start coaching a youth basketball team and work up to head coach of the Kentucky wildcats! I’m waiting!

Clearly some posters don’t understand the summer rules for players. 8 hours of scheduled practice and only 4 hours of on court coaching allowed per week. All the rest is individual workouts the players have to do on their own.

Guaranteed to be able to work on your game more in Vegas at the summer league than a hotel ballroom in the Bahamas. 90% of the off season work is done individually by players so this trip will help more than any Bahamas glorified exhibition.

You actually get 10 days of unrestricted practices before a foreign tour, which is exactly why those trips are so valuable. Those extra practices are the biggest benefit, not necessarily the games themselves.

The competition is whatever you choose to schedule. It can range from glorified pickup games to legitimate, experienced professional or national teams. The quality of the opponents isn’t what makes the trip valuable, it’s the extra practice time you can’t get under the NCAA’s normal summer rules.

Vegas is definitely a consolation prize.

I really really really really wanted summer basketball games too. Dying to see this team in a real game. BUT I believe they aren't doing it because Kam is in a boot with his foot, and Kepnang is out for the summer as a precaution. Also Reece Potter has been out dealing with some injury too. Realistically we can't go play real games with only one legit center. So, after I heard all that I understand the decision.

I mean with our injury history before the season starts I prefer this a million times over, except Kenny Chesney lol

All that speculation based on one report you read. You must be a Democrat.

People on both sides make bad-faith speculations from things that aren’t fully fleshed out. These kind of generalizations don’t help anything either. I’m very far to the right of center, personally, but not everyone who disagrees with you is an idiot. I feel like if people took time to understand the epistemological foundation of everyone’s views they would understand we are all mired in inconsistencies. We would also be a little more graceful and understanding, even where we disagree.

I mean you can try this but it won't work lol. Some here would tie a photo of a banana wearing sunglasses on a park bench into some sort of weird political shot at another poster for a reaction and the derailment of a thread. All I was thinking was how Kenny Chesney sounds like more of a bonus for the staff than the players but at least they get a cool trip out of it. The guy you responded to took someone's paragraph and went into 'attack mode' and obviously has partisan politics on his mind on a holiday weekend.

10 days of practice is nice but doesn’t change the fact that summer growth from a team happens from individual workouts and the work they decide to put in. This team has players who are living in the weight room and gym 6-8 hours or more a day currently through out the summer. That is where the stamina, and growth comes from. Daily consistency over time will always equal results. Once school starts and we get into a true practice schedule then the staff can do their thing. This team up to this point fits together well personality wise and we have three players who are clear cut leaders. Last year we didn’t even have one with true leadership qualities, that in itself will make a massive difference in performance on the court.

Let's see go to Isreal and play a couple of tomato cans or go to Las Vegas and watch the NBA summer league. Tough choice there. Pope is the coach , he will sink or swim on the decisions he makes. This doesn't appear to be a bad one IMO. You guys would find something to whine about no matter what he did.

My daughter took a month off without picking up a golf club. Now she does play D-1 golf but she took a 33 day vacation to different places in Europe. She returns on the 34 th day , plays golf, and shoots a 5 under 67. She said the time away from golf was the best thing for her game. Practice make perfect but to much practice slows flaws to come in and become normal.

Everyone crapping on Kenny Chesney but I know for a fact that at least Trent Noah likes country music. Probably more than him tbh.

Not all young people listen to that garbage rap music that talks about nothing but killing and doing drugs.

There's nothing wrong with sounding 107 years old on the internet but you sound 107 years old on the internet lol.

Country music also has a history of singing about/glorifying violence, abuse, drugs, alcohol, etc. Countless country songs are practically beer and hard liquor ads, old and new artists alike sing about weed and getting high, and Johnny Cash, an American icon, sang about shooting a man in Reno just to watch him die. The whole of country music isn't beach and frat boy anthems. Country actually became "happier" sounding in the 2000's which made it way more popular because it had been so dire and depressing before. It was seen as music you got blind drunk to because you were so depressed about your life.

Many of you guys realize that these venues are scheduled waayyy in advance? The lure was the Sphere, not KC. The optics, sounds, and special effects will be the wow. Do you think pope called the sphere months ago asking for the KC tour dates, lol.
