Mine has never been lower. I know zero about any of the guys we recruited and signed. Not sure how we’re doing in recruiting rankings overall.

At this point, I just hope to be pleasantly surprised on Saturday afternoons. Maybe it’s age. I remember my dad losing some interest in sports as he got older.

I do keep an eye on the NFL though.

Healthier than when I fixated on it starting during Callahan’s tenure. Social media has not been a positive for our society IMO. This site is little different. Social media is often a mess of swirling mood swings and negativity. Information? Yes. Sometimes incorrect information? Absolutely.

A few years ago I coached with a friend of mine that was/is an iowa fan. He told me that the start of the season was not that big of a deal because they know that they would not do anything special as long as their coach was there...I am guessing it is the same coach as now.

He said that the excitement was just going to the games and drinking with his friends. That is sort of where I am at. I just love going to Lincoln on game day. Or meeting friends out to watch the game at a bar. Basically, I feel like my friend that roots for iowa feels like and like all iowa fans have felt like for 100 years.

I can remember buying the CFB magazines in the summer and it was article after article about Nebraska and how many games they would win and how good they were. I would be mad if the magazine predicted NU to have less than 10 wins. Not so much now...I am sure those magazines did not even have articles on iowa, so now I know how my iowa coaching friend feels.

Yep. Going to Lincoln is about seeing family who live there for me. Games are just a social event otherwise I would watch it on TV or listen on the radio. It’s been that way for me since the 80s.

I used to think how lame it must have been to be an iowa fan or a minny fan or a NW fan...Now I totally get it.

Mine has never been lower. What is the point of getting jazzed about recruiting? If "commits" actually make it here after turning down money elsewhere, many of them will be here for only a year. I've never heard of half the guys on the team right now.

What is the point of getting excited about recruiting rankings when we routinely get beaten by teams with much lower recruiting rankings?

I can't really say if part of it is I'm getting older, or if the product on the field is unacceptable. Maybe both. I don't mind getting beaten by a touchdown or two against teams with obviously more talent. What makes my blood boil is junior high-level poor coaching decisions, especially clock management, beginning games flat, wetting our pants in the 4th quarter, no identity, and/or refusal to put the next man up when somebody isn't getting it done.

I renewed my season tickets again this year because I still enjoy going to the games. But next year when they tear down South Stadium if I get bumped into the endzone during the "reseating" process, I won't renew.

It finally clicked and now I know why iowa fans come here.

We still have SOME level of excitement for Husker footall...while they have none and never had any...so they have to come here to try and feed off us.

I literally had no idea we had a 5* cb in our class last year. I literally couldn't name our quarterback last night. Not sure I could name 10 guys currently on the starting line ups. That is apathy and I thought I was apathetic 3 years ago.

Sad... I used to be a psycho keeping up with recruiting and the following season.

A pleasant surprise or two would be nice as we wait this lame duck regime out

Let me tell a story to describe where I am now. Since I was away to college many years ago it was my habit to call my dad on football Saturdays to get updates on the Husker games. Sometimes he would even put the phone next to the radio so I could listen to Bremser. This was my obsession for years beginning in 1978 with the calls. When I was dating my wife we were out on a date during a game and I did not call my dad. When I got home there were ten messages on my machine from him. I called him back and said I had missed the Husker game because I was on a date. My dad paused, then shouted at my mom, “Hon, your son is getting married!” He knew I would only miss a call about the game for a momentous reason. That was 1997.
Now? I still go to Lincoln for one game a year, sometimes two. I do it purely for the socialization and how fun my beloved hometown is on gameday.
As for the football program itself? I really couldn’t give a sh$t.

For me, the good news is that I do believe Rhule is done either during this season or at the end of the season.

Then we get the excitement of a coaching search and fresh NIL donations. Indiana is trying to replicate what NU did in the mid-late 90's...and there is no reason that NU can't do that again.

Been watching the Huskers since the late 60's, we had a great run (40+ years). I have to admit I'm not nearly as avid a fan as back then. Does that "make me fair weather"? I don't think so, still watch every game, but now I just expect us to find a way to lose a close game. I do alot of talking/complaining during the games (mostly to myself) as my wife trie to rane (sp) me in at times.

I am looking forward to this year and hope, for once in long time, we exceed expections rather than disappoint.

Two more months...GBR

I think he gets one more unless he’s like 3-8 or 2-9.

I’ve got this gut feeling that Rhule is just running out the clock. All of his rah rah head games fall on deaf ears. It used to work, but now social media is just a bunch of noise, and no one is falling for that trickery. He’s been exposed as a pretty average coach that is outmatched frequently. He’ll win a few games, lose more than he should considering how devoted our fans have been and then he’ll be out of here.

Forget my interest level, I have a hard time finding ANY fans who are at a high level. A few fans I know are giving Rhule more time, but I've met zero who are pumped.

That is just sad. Rhule knows his time in Lincoln is almost done - he is now doing career management the best he canIMO. His career of hopping to a higher-paying job appears to be over.

Unless Eichorst likes what he see's and opens the checkbook for him.

It has to be an amazing feeling to know that even if you get canned...you will be getting millions of dollars to leave.

I honestly don’t see myself watching college football in the near future. NIL will turn it into NFL lite, and I’m not an NFL fan. This will make it much easier to deal with the fact that Nebraska will never be great again.

For me personally, I am surprised I still check out this board and post on it. I feel like I am not far from just checking out. Part of it is suckage for so long, part of it is NIL and transfer portal. The real killer is knowing that Nebraska won’t be able to compete in this landscape no matter who is the coach. And there is no hint of that changing.

I am at the point where I pay zero attention to anything the local media or the staff say. Once again we read how awesome this portal class was. Then I see PFF publish a list of the top 75 portal players, and magically NU got zero players on the list. Honestly I follow LSU and the SEC more now. I guess apathy takes on different forms for different people. Maybe Ruhle finally hired some decent staff. I hope so. But to see NU put either zero or one player into the NFL and see how horrible this staff, and Frost, and Riley were at developing talent, makes you realize that until the school gets serious about football, this is what it will be. If NU was truly serious about football, it would not have extended the S & C coach. NU has had teams bullied, beaten up and pushed around for too long. When you could think outside the box and go out and hire a truly ELITE recruiter like Ed Oregeron, the thought never crosses their minds. When you have to bring in 17 portal players, your not developing the kids you recruited. Part of your promise to those kids is that you WILL develop them. NU has sunk to the bottom 1/3 of the B1G and is something like 1-34 vs the top 20 over the past years. It is what it is. I am not getting upset anymore if we go 4-8 this year, or 5-7 or whatever.

I'm just pissed that our roster is full of non-professionals who will make more money than doctors and surgeons to barely beat bowling green and ohio. The only reason they are being paid this much is because our coach, who is making about 20-30 surgeons worth of money a year is bad at his job and can't bring in good talent, and they are all being paid so much because our program was great 25 years ago, and those people who made it great don't get a cent. Nebraska exemplifies everything wrong with the sport.

Once upon a time, I would never miss a Husker game on tv. If it wasn’t televised I listened on the radio. Raking leaves and listening to Husker games was many a Saturday spent. Then they fired Solich. Right or wrong. We lost to Texas Tech by 70, Kansas by 70. And now we are K-State of the Big10. I root hard for our boys, but it’s no longer about jumping off bridges when we lose. Just another day in the neighborhood.

This is what I have said too...

We are now iowa and minny. Where the fans are like "ehhh" about the game and some of the students don't even know who they are playing that weekend.

In the last 16 games between those two teams, we have won 2 of them. We are nowhere close to being Iowa and Minny.

I'm going to allow myself to be pissed off at the team the rest of the month... that's 9 months since this team closed out an abysmal season that (on paper) should have been a good season... the new coaching additions and departure from Dylan are all positives... to me this feels like starting all over with a new coach... so... come August 1st it'll be time for me to support the team again... Also, I am heading to Oregon for the game so that's a positive for the season for me...

This. I have the same feeling about baseball. I have been a huge Red Sox fan since I was a little kid in Lebanon, Ne and we finally had a TV. I knew all the players but not know. I haven't watched a full game so far this year, don't know all the players and don't care. College FB is becoming like you say, more like the NFL but not as polished. When you start seeing kids who have attended 4 schools in 4 years, the fun isn't there unless of course he turns your program around! ha

I recall when NIL started being a thing, how many people on here were saying that was the equalizer Nebraska needed and other schools couldn't compete. I was trying to figure out where the money is going to come from in a state of 2 million. Nebraska doesn't crank out students like Michigan does for alumni support.

MLB baseball has no relationships to College football. You can at least follow the same 5 or 6 players for years in the mlb, and watch new prospects develop and come up in the farm system. Red Sox suck but mlb is very entertaining, and even when a team is bad they are probably building talent in the farm system. NU used to be that way. Guys were developing and there was always someone to look forward to watching, even in down years. College football cannot sustain this level of degeneracy for much longer. 70-80% of NU revenue comes form donations...most of those donations are coming from boomers who were able to build wealth and don't have much to spend it on in old age. The next generations don't have home equity, stable employment, and a lot are losing retirement and pensions...this whole "donation to NIL" system has to collapse within the next 10 years, it will start with the bad teams who require huge donations to keep the thing afloat...ie...NU.
