I watched one game. It was entertaining. But suspect that, like Red Bull, you don’t really need a second. I was actually mildly impressed that they had some skills

We were driving back through from vacation today. Thought about going, tickets weren't bad at 60 a piece, but the cheapest parking was about 150. And I would have had to book another hotel for the night. After a week of vacation with 3 kids, I elected to go home and sleep in my own bed and see my dogs.

@GOHOX69 seems like the type who writes scathing reviews after not getting enough horsey sauce in his drive through order at Arby’s.
@TJ8869 too.
I DEMAND SATISFACTION!!!!!
That's you, hoss. I actually leave the country on a regular basis and don't think Iowa City restaurants are Michelin grade. Don't conflate your redneck existence with mine.

Dubai? Hard pass. It’s Orlando in the desert. I have all I need in the warm embrace of the People’s Republic of Johnson County.

No, but it seems dumb as hell. I can see the draw to a large audience, 😂
I'm a baseball guy ... the Bananas are not my cup of tea, either ... but I can see how it'd be fun for youngsters and more casual fans ... I've seen no indication its appeal is limited to poor monster truck loving hicks, though. But if the rumors are true, and you grew up on cricket, you should just punch yourself in the face for degrading anything baseball related (even the sideshow variety). And just keep punching.

I'm a baseball purist too. This is a baseball product that's fun to watch and if it can get kids to play the game...awesome. I'm mostly upset my kids don't have the opportunity to play little league. It's city rec league (6 weeks of 2 days a week) or "travel" clubs (can Mom and Dad write the check, I'm lucky that I can). 99.99999% of kids aren't making The Show, I would love to see kids have a league to truly develop their skills with team building opportunities.

As someone who’s been through it, it’s a mixed bag. In little league, there isn’t really a way for a kid to meaningfully develop skills over a 2 month season, practicing a couple of times a week. It takes work at home, camps, lessons, etc. With that being said, to your point, to what end? They play more games and practice more with USSSA, but again, to what end? At the end of the day, the most important thing is for the kid to have fun. If the kid has fun playing in tournaments, do USSSA. If he just wants to play a little, do rec league.

It was fine. My wife loved it. They were entertaining and I can see why so many love them, but I found myself wishing I was watching a regular baseball game a few times.

I have 2 boys that are at the tail ends of their youth/HS baseball “careers” and we went through all the Little League and travel “fun.”

Little League is overrated by oldheads (like me), and travel baseball is a necessary evil, at this point. I’m sure I’ll look back on it all more fondly as the years go by, but right now I’m bitter at how inefficient and ineffective it all is, when it could easily be so much better.

Little League is daddy ball where parents favor their kids and their kids’ friends/kids of their friends, and don’t pay much attention to development of other kids. And they focus on winning, rather than giving kids opportunities to fail and learn. We did the whole LL tourney thing and, to be honest, it was a bit of a grind, as our town also does a summer all-star team that plays in an all-star league and does other summer tourneys. It’s a lot of games.

Travel, I could write a book on the good and the bad. It’s a lot of bad, but you take what good you can from it (offseason reps, exposure to better baseball, family time traveling, etc) while knowing you’re getting ripped off … but … last year, it was like $15K or so to have both my boys in the same premier travel program (not including outside training and lessons) … and my older son, who is capable of pitching at a D3 level, decided he’d rather focus on his studies in college (good for him - smart move - he’s a motivated brainiac - but would have been nice for him to decide that earlier), and didn't think he needed the boost from baseball to get into his preferred colleges. So, yeah ... that was fun.

That said, they know that baseball is for fun (and for a limited time), and to get you into a better school/get some money for school if you want to pursue that path. I see decently smart kids who are passing up better schools and going to bumbleeff u. to play throwaway D3 baseball, and then many don’t/won’t even play much, and they’ll have a **** education after. That’s just dumb.

I was thinking about coming back for dinner at Chez Grace followed by a night of Banana Ball. I’ll call you next time they’re in town @GOHOX69 and we can make an evening out of it.
