As we all know, these pickups/''commitments'' are meaningless promotional enticement tools used to to gain more meaningless pickups/''commitments'' so the staff appears to be earning the big bucks they are being paid. We only know what we got, but not for how long, when they step on the field for the first game. Recruiting is all about the bank account and even then requires hope and prayers that these efforts pay off. I know from experience that the playing field is never level in the sales game but this is a game better suited for a wealthy snake oil salesman than a coach which is why the Kiffin stock hit it big. All this to say, coaching and recruiting ain't what it used to be but it's still a good gig for future early retirement.

In many cases. All we can do is be glad we at least have them in the fold temporarily and that they stick. Can also hope that you build some recruiting momentum and hold onto most of the players. I think something like 80% of players stick with their original commitment, so flips aren't as common as they feel.

Whether they stick or not, the fact is that when it's all said and done, our recruiting class needs to land in the national Top 20 and the upper half of the SEC to be able to compete. We are not there at this time.

I know fans worry about the flips (me included) but it's not as common as it feels. A team is likely to lose half of their recruits to the portal at some point though.
