Pope is going nowhere soon & with the way he’s building the roster & staff , his future at Ky will be secure for years to come. Throw in 5 in 5 ,a couple of deep runs in March and Pope will be around for this board to criticize another decade .
Let’s hope he’s not around for another decade. The guy isn’t the right person for the job. It was clear Stoops wasn’t and UK kept him around way too long.

I always respect your opinion, but I have to disagree this time. With the way it is now with teams basically buying players, this would be perfect for Billy to jump back in the College pool.

He brings instant credibility. He‘s actually never won big as an NBA coach, so why not try and win a 3rd title as a College coach? What’s the worst that could happen? He collects another 20+ million dollars and retires Even if he’s not overly successful, which he hasn’t been anyway in the NBA.
There is no wrong answer, he could. I just think he’s positioning himself for the head job of the Spurs if their coach falters with Wemby soon. They will probably expect to contend for a ship in the next two years or so.

1) I don’t expect Donovan will ever coach Kentucky. I’d be more than a little surprised if he ever returned to college ball.

2) It is intriguing that he took an assistant gig. That does suggest that he wasn’t inspired by any of the jobs that were available this year and that he sees better opportunities ahead. If I had to guess it’d be that he’s angling to coach a program or a player than can contend for a title. Or maybe he’s just looking for a spot that fits his family needs better.

I'm not on or off the Billy train. I agree that this fan bases obsession with him is absurd at this point. It's been 20 years since he won national titles. 10 since he coached college at all. And the sport has undergone perhaps it's single most seismic shift ever in that decade.

If he left college in part because he was tired of the recruiting nonsense, it only stands to reason that he probably hates the current landscape in theory even more.

Would I welcome him to replace Pope if this season doesn't go like it needs to? Yes, of course. But I'm not going to read the damn tea leaves every time Billy takes a dump to try and decipher how it somehow pertains to Kentucky. Give it a rest.

Who cares? Donovan is never going to be the head coach at UK. Never.
I’m not sure about this. Hopefully, Pope is like Hurley, Golden, and even Donovan. Actually, Pope‘s first two years here were much better than Hurley, Donovan, and Golden’s first two years at UConn and Florida. We‘ll see how it plays out.

Pope will be here next year. This is a good team
Yep. With the possibility of keeping every single player off the roster for the following season, except one. Of course, due to the five in five rule now in place. Do I expect that to happen? Of course I don’t. However, I could see us keeping 7/8 players off this current roster. Go Cats!

And I think Pope is going to learn from last year and have a great HS recruiting class. People claim Pope can't recruit, but I think it's more a case that he made a big mistake last season. He could have had some really good kids, but passed because he put all his eggs in the Stokes basket and missed everything. I think he will be more first come first serve this time around

I can safely say not a single soul had "becomes an assistant coach" on their bingo card. Wtf? Lol.

He must be thinking that thr HC job may open before long. That guy made a lot of mistake in the finals.
I don’t think he’s looking to take the Spurs HC job, and I can see why he’d be inclined to do this just for the job itself. Being paid seven figures as the lead assistant of the franchise best situated to win NBA championships in the coming years is a mighty sweet gig. That’s as good a situation as it can possibly get in the assistant world.

And if the Spurs do win a title (as widely expected), he’ll be in major demand to pick and choose from the best future HC openings elsewhere.

Regardless, seems clear he’s done with college basketball. Some posters here need to finally let go of that pathetic pipe dream.

He should be our coach right now. If he was hired in April were talking title.aspirations right now not hoping to become a contender. This is our shot at him after this year let's hope Batt can pull trigger.

He's likely just flat-out worn out, burnt out. The guy LOOKS EXHAUSTED.

When he's 75, some of our fans will still want him and believe he's secretly wanted to be our coach for decades lol.

He turned us down at least twice, apparently one of those times after verbally agreeing to the job. I really don't get fans thinking he has real interest in being here.

Is he going to be back in college next season? Probably. I just don't think its UK.

It’s not an obsession with me. Look, Billy’s first two seasons at Florida weren’t nearly as good as Pope’s first two seasons here. However, Billy did win two National Championships, and damn near three at Florida, so, he’s intriguing because of his success. Of course, his last season at Florida he had a losing record.
His first 2 teams at Florida never just quit. Pope’s first two teams quit.

His first two teams at Fl were on an upward trajectory. Pope is on a downward trajectory.

But keep finding excuses.

Do you ever wonder why there’s so many excuses for Pope? It has to be tiring to keep coming up with them.

Good grief, dude. How many times are you going to post the same post? We get it — you think Pope’s teams always quit. There’s no one left that needs to be told that you believe this — we all know where you land on this one.
