For those of us who have fond memories of the 1970’s, do yourself a favor and access the Keith Urban covers (yacht rock) of some of the songs on YouTube.
He nails them.

You forgot Watergate and Legionaires disease. What was there to not like about the 70s? 18% home mortgage interest rates, 13% inflation, 9% unemployment, gas shortages, the fall of Saigon, TMI, etc. Good times!
(sorry Ernie)
But you could get 6 pack for under 2 bucks. I'd take the 70's over the craziness of the 2020's any day. What was there to not like about the 70s? 18% home mortgage interest rates, 13% inflation, 9% unemployment, gas shortages, the fall of Saigon, TMI, etc. Good times!

if you were lucky.3 channels of VHF and 2 channels of UHF TV.
… and slick with the rabbit ears!if you were lucky.
I remember watching PSU football games on a 12" b&w TV, from antenna with a snowy picture at our hunting cabin in Tioga Cty, and we were grateful to get it. Back then D1 college teams could only be televised 3 times per season, excluding the bowl game. Now it's a 65" with dish network and we get almost every game.3 channels of VHF and 2 channels of UHF TV.
You were just across the river (the Mon not the Snake). The park I started working at was Kennywood in the late 70s. Even drove a friend's air-cooled VW bug with a clutchless manual shift back then. The 70s rocked, literally. Damn great decade for a poor, sports-lovin’ teen boy from Braddock/Swissvale, too. Four Steeler Super Bowls, two Pirate World Series’, one Panther college football title. Throw in a first kiss and make-out session with childhood crush near abandoned iron furnace, buying a first car for $50 off cousin (’67 VW bug), working a summer in Yellowstone, getting to see my first grizzly bear, moose, and elk, and whitewater down the Snake River under the Tetons. Catching the Eagles in concert at the teeny tiny Syria Mosque wasn’t shabby, either. Oh, and 15-cent hamburgers at Winky’s. Meeting only wife dragged into early 80s, though.![]()
I had a VW bug around 1980. The heat worked great in the summer, and you needed a scraper to clear the windshield on the inside during the winter. How many 8-tracks did you have?
....and the best damn music to enjoy as we were coming of age. I contend that the 70's in the USA was the best time and place to be a teenager in the history of the world. Can't speak for adults in that decade, but even with the mortgage interest rates, homes were actually affordable and my parents found a way to buy their dream home. What was there to not like about the 70s? 18% home mortgage interest rates, 13% inflation, 9% unemployment, gas shortages, the fall of Saigon, TMI, etc. Good times!

Watch the movie Dazed and Confused to get a feel for life and music in the 70's.

Jim Jones gives Kool-Aid a bad name
Yeah, the saying "Don't drink the Flavor Aid" never caught on.Especially since they used Flavor Aid, not Kool-Aid.
I too had a VW bug (I think a ‘67) during that time period. The floor pan supporting the driver’s side seat rail rusted through and I found myself leaning against the door each time I got in the car. One of my friends took the car and told me he’d fix it for me. A day or so later he returned it to me in drivable condition. Apparently he and another friend boosted a speed limit sign and brazed it to the undercarriage of the car to reinforce the floor pan. Not how I would have drawn up the play but it worked.I had a VW bug around 1980. The heat worked great in the summer, and you needed a scraper to clear the windshield on the inside during the winter. I don’t think “Don’t drink the Funny Face” would have fared and better.Yeah, the saying "Don't drink the Flavor Aid" never caught on.
