Can someone confirm this post on NUIC Football on facebook about Andrew Talbert not playing football for Byron this year?

"Unfortunate news for Byron football fans, but outstanding news for Andrew Talbert.

Due to his commitment to North Carolina and increasing interest from MLB organizations, Andrew will not be playing football for Byron this fall.

What a career it's been. From bursting onto the scene as a freshman to becoming one of the area's premier athletes, he's given fans plenty to remember.

Best of luck as he chases the next chapter. The future is bright."

No, it doesn’t make sense. I’d be shocked if this was accurate. Doesn’t seem like this is something that would happen in a program like Byron.

Enjoy your hs years - there’s no guarantee what happens at the next level or the level after that.

What does that even mean?

The kid sprained his elbow at the end of baseball season. Even if Dr. gives a "good to go" that is scary enough to think about not wanting to play QB in fall when obviously he has some serious baseball aspirations.

Football is king in Byron and while other programs see kids transferring and doing what’s best for them that doesn’t happen in Byron.

This is a kid who’s been one of the best baseball players in the state for years and yet has started on the football team since his freshman year.

I talked to coach Considine after a basketball game last year and he mentioned that Andrew has worked out with him and his son at 5am in their barn for years. The kid hang cleans 325lbs.

No way this kid isn’t playing his senior year of football.

100% football is king at Byron. But every kid and every situation is different.

Here is your list so far for the 2026 season. Let me know if I forgot any....
1. Talbert plays football at Byron Sr year.❌
2. Jadon Wilson never plays for SF.
;)

If he has a full ride to UNC and could possibly be drafted, how is this even a question? Yes, football is king in Byron, but who cares if you're a top tier baseball player?
The Byron football culture played an enormous part in developing the kid into who he is today.

He ain’t sitting this season out. Silly to think otherwise.

No idea if the kid is playing or not. Hope he does but think of this as a Return on Investment.

Yes the football culture helped him, that's the Investment and he has a heck of a return coming, NCAA or MLB.

He plays, gets injured, he will lose NIL money or the opportunity to play on the MLB, which you never know how it goes.

HS football is great, nothing will replace padding up with your boys, but you tell me if I sit out my senior season to potentially make generational wealth? I'd have to stop and think.

No matter the decision, it's the right decision.

Even with a "good to go" from a Dr. that is scary enough to give serious thought about not playing QB in fall, NO? It is obvious he has serious baseball aspirations.
He hands the ball off all game in that offense.

Byron kids are old school…he’s suiting up this fall and going both ways as usual.

HS football isn't the be all, end all of life. Football is obviously this kids secondary sport and if UNC or an MLB scout says that they'd prefer he not play football, if I'm him I'm not touching shoulder pads in the fall and risking my future.

I don’t care one way or another. My point was it’s not crazy to think the report is true and he decided not to play. And I know he’s not slinging the ball 30 times a game. It still is reasonable to decide not play and protect yourself for the sport he obviously has high aspirations to play at a higher level.

He should do what is best for him no matter the Byron football culture.

This isn’t the first or last time this happens.

It’s not even a decision to make. He’s always been a major division 1 baseball player and MLB prospect and yet played football. Nothings changed.

It’s good to see kids play for the name on the front rather than the name on the back for a change. Great to see a kid like this stay in his tiny small town rather than leave for the best program he can find for “his future”.

He had an injury and he is entering his senior year. Those two things changed.

Entering his senior year and with NIL being what it is, risking that on football wouldn't be too smart.

Very recent example of what could happen- see Cole Crafton. I totally get the decision.
Not gonna pretend to know all the details but tore his ACL senior year of football and missed senior year of baseball. Now played in 17 games at U of I as a redshirt freshman. Kid said he had no regrets.

I get it - there is a risk of getting hurt doing anything. I’d just be shocked if he didn’t play his senior year. Why ever play then?

I’ll be curious to hear the full story come out.
HC says 2 days ago he’s playing and then the next day it comes out that he’s not playing?

If you really want to play your senior year of football, why not just purchase insurance on your scholarship & NIL money in case of injury?

Often times, the school purchases this insurance.

Thinking back to JCA 20ish years ago and Ruttinger committed to ASU for baseball before his senior year and still played football. Similar situation for Joe Bensen.
I hear ya. Money sure has changed things. Joe Benson was a 2nd round pick. He injured his shoulder prior to the Dergo Morris game, which was a big contributor to the loss. I remember him having 360 yards against Batavia in the 6A playoffs that year too.
