What’s everyone doing to celebrate? My family and I will be heading down to the beach tomorrow for a week with my parents and sisters’ families. We alternate between Pawleys Island, my wife’s family, and Debordieu every other year. Debordieu does a big fireworks show on the 3rd. Both communities have parades on the 4th. Debordieu is basically a giant water fight. Afterwards we will have a big bbq with extended family. It’s going to be hot!

Gators in that lake?

The simple test in Florida is to stick your hand in the water. If it comes out wet, there are most likely gators in it.

I've never known of a gator bite in it. It helps that there are a lot of rednecks who live on the lake (or who have family property on it) whose kids/grandkids swim & boat on the lake. If one ends up being a little too comfortable being around people, it very like will catch a case of lead poisoning.

We have them here in SC, in the lowcountry. The Waccamaw River is right near where we will be. Great for boating and swimming, but as someone from the upstate it always makes me nervous.

We're hosting friends from Canada for a week. We'll spend time drinking rum, grilling and talking about how much better their country is than ours right now.

Nice. Have you played the Debordieu Club?
If not, you need to .
We have reservations at Franks(Pawleys) tomorrow evening and taking the boat out in the inlet for the parade on Saturday. Probably do marshwalk things afterwards. Going to be a mess

Yes I have. I am going to play Monday and Thursday. Hopefully I don’t die of heat exhaustion. I love Franks. The beef short rib is my go to. Enjoy!

Boat on Friday with a few families, likely to Morris Island or Capers Island in Charleston. We get to avoid the gen pop who can make their way to land-accessible beaches.

Taking the boat from my house to a friends house in Awendaw on the 4th with a few families. Meeting a bunch of families up there. Stay on the boat for massive fireworks display viewed from Charleston harbor.

Mix of cooking out, swimming in the pool, jumping off the dock, etc in between.

Last year I went to NYC for the hotdog eating contest, which was fun. The hotdog contest is whatever, but the after party shenanigans with the eaters is fun as hell.

This year I'll do what I normally do, which is good to the beach and drink myself stupid (well, to a higher level of stupid than normal).

Probably head out to the pool for a few hours, then at night we'll hit the San Antonio FC match followed by their fireworks/drone show. All fingers should be accounted for by night's end. ;)

Hitting up Cards-Cubs at Wrigley tomorrow. Driving back through IC sat so will meet up with friends for lunch. Trying to convince the no pic to get Bananaball tix at Kinnick. Fireworks somewhere. Sunday I plan on doing f*ck all after a week on vacation with 3 kids.

As of right now, no plans. Just back from Mexico so still recovering from that. It’s bone dry here in Colorado so fireworks are a no go. We will probably grill with some friends and head to the local drone show. Pretty lame.

I have to say I am a little disappointed with the response. I was hoping to hear more about all you can eat corn parties or something like from our Iowa guests.
