I hate to break it to you but the women in this country are actually successful in this sport. EXTREMELY successful. The envy of the world. The men on the other hand… historically a complete laughingstock. Maybe one day that will change? Chances are next to zero but we can hope, right?
Oh, so they are capable of winning this current competition? You really are a damn fool. An amusing one, that I’ll give you.

Let me repeat, the women in this country are EXTREMELY successful in this sport. Think San Antonio Spurs, but even better. The envy of the entire soccer world.

The men in this country… think along the lines of Sacramento Kings or worse.

This isn’t even a debate. Most of our best men’s players are developed in foreign countries, absolutely not here.

In this sport, we should be proud our women actually represent us well. Our men, embarrass us across the globe. Those are FACTS as long as any of us have been alive.

The World Cup is the best and most popular sporting event in the world. There is nothing that compares to it. No it’s not the quality of the Champions League, but the passion the players play with and the passion the fans show is what sets it apart.

intent doesn’t matter at all. I agree it was incidental, but it was still a red every time.
Intent is beside the point—I agree with you there. The real issue is your characterization of the play as reckless. You're treating that as an established fact when it's actually the very point being debated, and I don't agree that the play was reckless.

In that case it doesn’t matter if it’s malicious or not. It’s like the targeting rule in US football, lack of intent doesn’t excuse you. Do I like either rule, no, I loathe them. But the rule is the rule, that was a straight red, and there is no debate possible. The replay with the ankle being stomped into the ground, no matter WHY it is being stomped into the ground is absolutely definitive.
Yes, it’s exactly like the targeting penalty, which has to be CALLED ON THE FIELD before there is ever a review.

One thing is now certain…..that potential “cakewalk” to the quarters / semis that folks were talking about a few weeks ago??? LOL. That shít sure didn’t happen.

We get Belgium without our most electric player in the round of 16.

If we somehow win that, Spain or Portugal in the quarterfinals.

Somehow win both? Probably France in the semifinals.

I mean, to win the whole damn thing, we may have to go through Doku (without Balogun),

THEN either Pedri / Rodri / Yamal -or- Fernandes / Vitinha / Neves / Mendes / and, oh yeah, Ronaldo

THEN basically a who’s who of the Top 25-30 players in the world (Dembele, Olise, Mbappé, Cherki, Doue, Barcola, etc.)

…..THEN another crazy list of elite names from probably England or Argentina in the final.

There’s probably only one team that got a tougher draw than we did in the knockout rounds, and that would - by default - be Bosnia.
Yeah. That easy draw seemed too good to be true. And of course it was. With Balogun I think we might have a chance vs Belgium. Without him, it’s gonna be tough. They’re an old team & historically overrated. But they’ve got more talent than the 4 we’ve played combined. And if we do somehow manage to pull off the big upset it will end bs Spain.

Shouldn’t go to VAR if nothing is called on the field. On fouls, VAR is supposed to be for upgrades only (at least that‘s what the announcers said).
Announcers were wrong then. VAR can’t give a yellow if nothing was called on field. But it absolutely can give a red. If they had determined it’s not a red but should have been a yellow, he wouldn’t have gotten a yellow card.

You are extremely ignorant… at least about this you are. Friendly advice, stick to things you at least have a some knowledge about.
Again, have you ever been to a Mexico game at the Azteca as an opposing fan? Or anywhere for that matter.

You always use that argument when you get called on an absurd statement, you do it with people besides me too.
You’re just making **** up. Feel free to point out any instance where I said I was kidding when it’s obvious I wasn’t.

The multiple people who have thumbed up or laugh emoji’d my original joke (it was very clearly a joke) actually understand humor. You clearly do not.

btw, are you ever going to stop posting over serious BS in threads about a tournament you purport to hate??

It doesn't matter if it's reckless or not. That's what I keep trying to point out. It's like targeting. That one was essentially the same thing as a defender that gets called for targeting when the offensive player lowers his head at the last second. It's unfortunate but the letter of the rule says that's a red.

Belgium is not a very good team relative to Brazil, Argentina, England, etc... We couldn’t have asked for a better draw in round of 16. This is as gimmie of a game as we could have drawn up at this stage.

Balogun absence is not much of a factor. There is little drop off from him to other forwards not named Pulisic on our team. Our best player, Pulisic, should be ready to go. Home crowd, easy opponent, etc.. we will likely never get a better chance to advance than this. If we beat Belgium, Spain and Portugal are also really struggling and extremely beatable. Spain couldn’t score on Cape Verde for example.

Anyways, let’s go USA.

I already answered this. Do you not read? Or do you not know basic geography?
You never said if those were national team games and if you were a fan of the opponent. I was a neutral at the two games I went to, but I saw what happened. Those were in the US.

Here’s the thing about the red card debate. If you ask 10 different top level referees, you’ll get 5 of 6 saying one thing & 4 or 5 saying the other. The lack of consistency in soccer refereeing is maddening.

And what’s truly maddening is that a call this debatable has resulted in a team losing its best offensive threat for an entire extremely important game.

Belgium is not an easy opponent. They might be easier than some of the others we could have drawn, but they are still a very good team.
As for describing Spain as "extremely beatable"...😜🤪😜🤪. Could we beat them? Anything is possible but it's HIGHLY unlikely.

For sure. I still laugh every time Fox brings out Mark Clattenberg. That guy was terrible when he was a ref. I had the same reaction when somebody told me that the SEC had made Gerald Boudroux its head of basketball officials.

I just disagree with VAR giving a red when the ref didn't even give a yellow. Upgrade a foul from yellow to red? Okay, I can see that.

Like targeting, you can make things look terrible in slow-motion. I'd argue that all reviews should be done in real time and not with slow-motion. It biases the viewer against the person committing the foul by making nano-second reactions seem intentional.
