Multiple sources have confirmed to me that it is factual.
Initial thought is as good as Varina is and will be... tough order to go back-to-back weeks to the 757 and hope to come out with one let alone two wins.
BREAKING: The schedule just got even tougher.
Varina has officially added its THIRD reigning state champion to the 2026 schedule.
After facing Maury, the Blue Devils will now travel to Chesapeake to take on Oscar Smith on September 11—meaning they’ll go back-to-back weeks against two Hampton Roads state champions.
This isn’t just another non-district game.
This has all the makings of one of the biggest regular-season matchups in the state and one fans across Virginia won’t want to miss.

Varina has nothing to lose. Even if they lose the game, they will still get massive points for even playing them.

I do believe Smith has more to lose as they have been a dynasty for over 2 decades and more established powerhouse than Varina. With that said, about the matchup itself for this year, it does seem as though Varina may have a tad more talent than Smith but Lonnie is a more pure Qb than Wyche IMO. Although he has accuracy issues. However Wyche may have more talent surrounding him and if they don’t turn the ball over I’ll say Varina by a slight margin.
Varina also plays Grimsley from NC who has won multiple titles in a row in North Carolina. Varina gave them a very close game last year down in North Carolina. I saw film of that game and was very impressed by the Varina QB. Does he return this year or did he graduate?
Varina is the favorite to win C4 but I don’t see them fairing too well during that 3 week stretch. They lost a lot on that front 7 even thought they do have some talented guys. They definitely reloaded in the skill positions but the trenches will be a question mark.
Yep exactly my reasoning for saying the trenches will determine the outcome. On a larger scale I think that’s why VA as a whole can’t get over the hump with these national powers including the WCAC schools for the most part. Just not enough strength/depth up front. But when it comes to Varina’s schedule, yes I do particularly question if they have the roster depth up front to go through their schedule unscathed.
It doesn't help to lose period. They would get more points beating a good C2 team than losing to a good C6 team. If they win the game they would get a lot of points.
Get 14 for losing to C6. Plus 10 if they go undefeated for 24 points.
Beat C2 get 18 +4 +18 if they go 9-1 for 40 points. They would get 2 bonus points for each classification they play down.
Now if they beat a 9-1 OS team. They would get 26 +18 = 44

I don’t believe power ratings mean much. Maury won’t get many points and they’ll steamroll to the state playoffs. Same with Varina since they will play worse competition in the postseason
It doesn't mean much to the Final favorite usually. They will be regional champs and then it determines if you have to travel in the semi or not. The better team usually wins anyway. Salem played just about all their playoff games on the road in 2017 and still won the title.
Now if they were to lose 3 or 4 of those games and lose players to injuries. Do to playing top teams. They could run into some problems. This Varina team should be fine.
The scary thing about Varina is they are going to be just as good or better than they were last year
Do you think them vs smith is bigger game for Varina or Smith? I get the sense Varina may have more talent as far as D1 recruits go than Smith ( smith has some solid future college players with that said) but in a weird way I feel as though it’s a bigger game for Varina. Side note with sarcasm: I guess Gonzaga ducked Smith from a home and home series lol

Varina had the core of that team for 3 years so it was no surprise that they’d be at the top of C4 by their senior year. Zion Boisseau and Blair Morris will help with the loss of DaMari Carter but who’s replacing Bull? Braylon Hood? Jayden Walker? Mike Farley? Also lost guys like Tre Rogers and Jarvell and Jayden Baskerville. They’ll have a brand new offensive and defensive line. New linebacking core (Clemson commit Ray Hudson will be a game changer).
For me this schedule really hurts Huguenot. Imagine going 10-0 and seeing a 7-3 Varina team in the first round of the playoffs. 4B will be very interesting. I don’t see Dinwiddie falling off at all and Huguenot will be as good as advertised. Spotsy has some serious speed and a very good incoming QB and should be the strongest C4 Battlefield team by a mile. Hard to say what the Hanover County teams will have but not expecting too much from them. We’ll probably see a 10-0/9-1 Louisa team as well.
I think Dinwiddie, Huguenot and Varina will ultimately be the top 3 teams in the group but of course Varina will be the team to beat. Will they be as good as last year? Not even close. That Varina team was different on a lot of levels and the biggest reason was their front 7 and DaMari Carter.

What’s Salem looking like this year? I’m looking forward to the Dinwiddie/Salem game this year.
I agree with your assessment 100% Varina is losing a lot of talent but have a lot of upcoming talent moving up from there undefeated JV team last year.. Playing the division 6 state champions playing the division 5 state champion and national ranked grizzly of North Carolina. A tough schedule we shall see.
Varina’s skill guys and schedule will make them extremely dangerous come playoff time. Also helps when you have Kaleb Wyche and Zion Boisseau on your offense and defense.
Not 100% sure Boisseau will be eligible week 1. Varina trying to avoid the same issue as last year.
Well regardless if they will be close to as good as last year, looking at who've they’ve agreed to play this year, they obviously have high expectations.
I got confirmation that he was 100% cleared. Varina hasn’t been really promoting him like I would like to see so maybe he’s not 100% yet. Wish he was still at Dinwiddie but Mills and Company are still going to be very good.
