I’ve seen some Mitchell fans I believe on Facebook that felt really good about what they have this year

Same here. They said Mitchell was young last year so I'd definitely keep a eye on them. They could play spoiler
haha, or it could just be a fan hyping up their team. Time will tell.
I do recall seeing comments from Mitchell fans about this upcoming year even back in January to be fair. It's different if it's just one fan haha
Here is my way too early thoughts / not nearly enough inside knowledge on Mitchell. :
1. They need to get much much tougher than they have been the past 2-3 years. Not sure why but they have not like to hit or be hit like they did a few years back.
2. They will need to tackle better as well. (See previous comment).
3. I know they have a few new components this year with some kids coming back out that didn’t play last year and possibly an incoming player or 2.
4. Line play must improve/ get more depth.
5. Like most smaller schools have good luck with few injuries
6. figure out who will be rb1 and wr1. (Possibly one of the young men who did play last year)
7. Did I mention get stronger and hit someone
All in all I think it should be a successful year in Ledger but can they contend???? Will have to play much better against better competition than past couple years. We shall see but I would count them as a very very dark horse, not a front runner.
Either way I plan to be there in Purple and support the best I can. And football season means it’s close to bow season. Always a plus.

Agree mitchell needs be tougher this year. Look like mit will start 9 seniors on offense. can they contend , I say yes . Biggest weakness is depth on the line. We will find out week 1 , Charlotte Latin will best team we will play all year.
9 Seniors starting on offense is certainly a good place to start.
Murphy ran all over them, and put up 49 on them, and they think they'll shut down our running attack? They may beat us, and may be stacked, but I cannot see them just shutting down our running attack.
Exactly and Murphy got the same running back returning that ran all over them to. Corvian gotta beat Murphy first before worrying about shutting Tarboro down supposedly

Asheville citizen ask coaches who is most underrated team in western nc, they said mitchell. Hope they are right lol
Seems Warren County's coach feels his squad is one of the most underrated teams in 2A. I know we lost a lot, but I'm still not sure they'll have enough to dethrone us this year.
On paper, Corvian should demolish everyone in 2a this year. Has any team in 1A/2A ever had this level of talent on one team? How many D1 players does Corvian have, not to mention smaller college prospects?
Maybe this will be there year, but I feel I hear this every year.
To be fair, I heard this last year to. Then Murphy ran all over them. Not gonna beat many teams especially Tarboro giving up 585 yards rushing in a game.
Not only that, but Murphy returns every other back in their backfield from last year too. Only place they will be different in the backfield (besides adding a hand full of good JV backs) is at QB, where the Dogs replace a 5-9 guy with a 6-5 junior who is pretty accurate and can throw the ball about 65 yards. If that kid plays anywhere near his potential then everyone in 2a could have a major problem on their hands.
I agree. I definitely expect Murphy to be on the mix. Always will be in the mix. Great program. It's wild how corvian was just anointed as the supposed team to beat. I didn't consider them world beaters in 2024 when they made it.
In the west we hear it every year. For a while it was MIC and now it's Corvian and CSOD. The private/charters from Charlotte to Lake Norman are always going to be better on paper than the public schools. They just don't like getting hit when it's below 45 degrees.
Could be some Sampson County bias, but I believe Hobbton and Lakewood both have a great shot at meeting Tarboro in the regionals. Hobbton is heading into year 2 under proven winner Coach Scronce, it was impressive what he was able to do last year with such a limited off-season and considering the scheme overhaul from the Air Raid to Wing-T. As for Lakewood this is the first time their senior class has had stability at the head coach position during their entire high school career. A constant revolving door of head coach and assistants is not a recipe for success yet they have still made pushes to the 3rd and 4th rounds in the 2 seasons before last year's 6-5 season. Both return a large number of starters and had pretty good JV teams from last year. Obviously nobody remembers 2nd place but outside of Tarboro this may be the most wide open the east has been in recent years. Hobbton, Lakewood, Holmes, Warren, East Bladen, Manteo, are all teams to watch for.
I agree, there seems to be some talented teams in the East this year, and all ready to take their shot at knocking off the champ.
I just took 5 minutes and looked up the eastern playoffs for the last 7 years. Only one game in 7 years was less than double digits in favor of Tarboro. '23 East Bladen. Tarboro will blow through the east like they are a wet napkin even if they have a little bit of a down year. Part of that is due to the rest of the east being a literal wet napkin.
This has been discussed multiple times, and I agree, there has been some years that the east was really bad, but there have been some years where we've been really good, and we've made some really good teams look not so good.
Yes, there have been outliers. I once knew a guy with 6 toes on his left foot. Doesn't mean men have 6 toes on their left foot.
Every once in a while there is an eastern team that isn't named Tarboro that could play dead in a cowboy movie, but it isn't often and overall depth of teams is just not there.
Doesn't take away anything from Tarboro winning the east every year since Noah.
But if the East is so weak why doesn't Tarboro lose the state championship game every year? They've won 6 in the last 9 years. The three teams that beat them from the West had tremendous talent and multiple D1 players. I'm pretty confident that some (not all)of the eastern teams that Tarboro has beaten the last 9 years, would have won the championship.

Because Tarboro is an outlier. 6-3 vs the west champion in the 9 you selected is still 9-0 vs the second best in the east. North Stanley might have been able to beat East Surry in 18, but they are a western team that got placed in the east. Pender might have had a shot at Mitchell in I think it was 21. Other than that, I don't see the runner up in the east being top 5 in the west.
This is how the west views themselves. Especially now without the Surry county teams to save them.
You don't think 6-3 in 9 years is different than 45-0? I also wonder what the East vs West record is across all divisions for the last 50 years.
Also, that big dog is Tarboro looking at everyone else through a window, not a mirror. Nobody on the planet is dissing Tarboro. They are on the greatest run maybe ever.
The ONLY critique is that the eastern playoffs are usually a cakewalk. They don't have to worry about having a bad night in the second round or a tough draw. They can have an off night and still beat whatever random eastern team by 45. It's prime Alabama playing in the Sun Belt. The west is at least the ACC that occasionally produces a Clemson or FSU natty.

Obviously it's in favor of the West when it comes to more championships across all classes. If not for Tarboro, the east would be way behind. And let's also be real for a second , the playoffs are way to long as is. Way to many teams make it in the playoffs nowadays.
Not many second round matchups will be competitive unless you get to the higher classifications. Even in the 2a West StarMount for example could have a sloppy second round game and still win fairly comfortable. And also for all this talk about the east being a cakewalk for Tarboro, The 1a West is weaker than the 2a East. It's not close either. Will many on here and other social media sites say that and try to hold it against robbinsvillie?

Everybody knows Robbinsville has no competition at least for now. I think this is the year Starmount comes out of the west. Probably go in to the playoffs undefeated.
Sure. When the 1a /1aa split happened and Elkin went on a run in the early 2000s, I saw a t-shirt after Elkin's 2002 win that said "congratulations on being the 3rd best team in your conference."
I think the west is wide open , don't see no dominant team right now. Tarboro is top dog in 2a until you beat them
Ronnie Millsap and Stevie Wonder can both see that Tarboro is #1 until proven otherwise.
