(I posted most of this in another thread, but I thought Brendan deserved his own.)

Thrilled for Hausen. This is a kid who started all season for K-State last year. He was one of the best 3-point shooters in the Big 12. His ninety 3-pointers made on the year ranked 3rd in the conference and his 38.8% clip ranked 4th, but he's been buried at the end of Ben's bench this season. That would be depressing for anyone, but especially these days.

Hausen not only hit some great shots last night, he also made a brilliant defensive play on an inbound that forced Oregon to call a timeout. Ben has had nothing but great things to see about Brendan's effort and attitude all season. Now we may be seeing all of that come together for not only Hausen's benefit but for the Hawkeyes. I love this kid's story, and I hope it has a fitting conclusion this season, maybe something like hitting the game winner to send Iowa to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 1999.

Ben mentioned that Hausen has dropped 20 lbs.
It is surprising that as much ball as these guys play year-round that any could add bad weight.
But,looking forward, I hope he got into his shooting groove last nite.
When his best attribute is shooting 3s, he has to knock down 33+ % to justify his scholly.
No doubt, lot of pressure when he only gets 1-2 shots/game to come off bench cold and make one immediately but that's his role..settle in now Mr Hausen!

This is a different team, with different expectations, if Folgueiras and Hausen keep playing like this
I’d agree but Folgueras has been extremely inconsistent, and he’s been really bad on the road. Last night was maybe a confidence builder against a really bad team. Confidence from Mac seems to be rising on Hausen. He’s wearing that knee sleeve and had gained 20 lbs so clearly something was holding him back. While he will never be quick on the defensive end he does hustle and we know he can shoot it. Might get him 6-10 minutes a game moving forward or more depending on a matchup.

2 things worked against him.

1) leg injury in summer hindered him thru mid-season

2) Tate Sage
As a true freshman, Sage showed a lot of promise early and got better as the year went on. It was fun to watch his growth. I'm hoping that his development and growth continues at Iowa for the next couple years! Glad he's on our team!!!

Count me as one who thinks it’s weird that Hausen is good enough to land on a summer league roster, but wasn’t good enough to get minutes for Iowa last year. Not that it didn’t work for Iowa. Not a knock on McCollum. Not complaining. I just think it’s weird. While a few folks have tried nobly to explain what happened and why, I haven’t heard a completely satisfactory explanation to date.

What if he doesn’t? Thats a ridiculous statement. 1st year he basically takes a team of mid major players and a few Freshmen and makes the Elite 8. Best finish since the mid 80’s. Lol.

Why is that a ridiculous statement? The difference between a good restaurant and a great one is consistency. Great restaurants deliver an excellent meal night after night. The next tier might knock it out of the park one day, then serve an underwhelming meal the next.

It's the same with coaches. One incredible season is impressive, but it's not enough for me to say someone has reached that elite level. I want to see sustained success over multiple years. A single season just isn't a large enough sample size for me. Sorry.

He’s won 4 National Championships. 4. Where would you say Iowa ranked talent wise in the league this year? It clearly wasn’t top half. The Florida win in Florida in the tournament was arguably one of our best all times win in the tournament. Give me a break.

Taking nothing away from Ben.

But you slightly mischaracterize the situation, as the roster was of his construction

Ben's rotation only goes so deep.

Did you see where Hoss deserved to be in that rotation? Or did you see pressing reasons that the rotation needed to be expanded for him?

Certainly, you at least saw a noticeable difference defensively, between Hoss and the rotational players. Did you not?

absolutely wild our McCollum couldn’t find a role for him.
Not trying to be funny or sarcastic here, but if you recall what Ben said last season about him, he always highlighted Brendan's leadership, and how he was vocal with the other players, encouraging them. Many of us would have liked more PT for him, but Ben did what was best for the team. IMO, his role as a leader was very important for the others.

It is a pretty low bar making a summer league team.
Sammy Hoiberg made the cut
.
Never know, but very few of these types of signees make the NBA...but Europe or japan?

Good luck to Brendan.

Not really. Which, to my point, makes it weird that he's on an NBA summer league roster. Perhaps the NBA guys see something that me, you, and Ben McCollum do not?

He looked pretty active defensively to me. I would honestly like to see someone break down some film showing Hausen's supposed defensive lapses. To be honest, for many fans, I think it's simply easy to assume that a white kid like Hausen (who is more known for his shooting) is a poor defender. Not saying that is the case with you, but it's the kind of cliché critique that a lot of fans recite ad nauseum. Surely you, of all people, can appreciate a certain level of skepticism when it comes to oft-repeated fanspeak.

Summer league needs players to fill rosters. And if you can shoot, teams are willing to take a flyer and try to develop you. It's almost no investment for them to throw a player in the D-league.

Have no problem with fans being questioned. The only problem here is, to me, the difference on the defensive end was night and day, although Hoss did have his moments
