Two added time goals to win and a penalty shoot out. Not a terrible start to the round of 32.
Who would've thought years ago that Neuer would end his WC career by being on the losing end of a penalty shootout.
When your shooters miss 3 of 6 chances hard to fault goalie
So far this round, I feel like each game has had a team playing to get to penalty kicks. That is not appealing.
PKs are all on the shooter. You are supposed to make them.
Rarely a GK may make a great save. But by far most missed PKs are the shooter either missing the goal completely or giving the GK an easy save to make. All of the Germany misses were spectacularly bad shots. I think Neuer had a pretty good save on his stop. But a good PK can never be saved.
Would you say that Germany team was more skilled than the US team? Most years I would think that would be a given, but I didn’t think so yesterday.
Shocking to me how bad some of those PKs were.
I don’t think it’s so much they’re not skilled as it is they were passive. At one point they had completed 230 passes to Paraguay's 30. But almost they ever did was pass around the perimeter. Never even tried to create any real chances.
