Dan Patrick cant believe it they would leave off the main face of wnba, he says it is like leaving various young stars out of NBA promos. Does the Wnba want this to look racial because they think it will bring in more viewers? That is the only thing I can think of because the refs are poor and I am not watching the fever anymore with all the wrestling and mugging that goes on.

Sounds like they didn't have rights to her image and not a grand conspiracy
That reasoning sounds like a psych-ops cover up conspiracy.

So, the show reached out to the W to get a response as to licensing issues, etc. came into play for not including Clark on the poster. All we have is this dude Norvell's tweet. Can any other media outlet CONFIRM Norvell's account of this?

That's the part that's most pathetic about this whole thing. It's not that stuff like Caitlin or other past greats got left off a poster....or any number of other controversies that involve the WNBA and stupid sh** that happens OFF the court.

It's that the WNBA is either willfully silent on these things, or they are just truly that incompetent as an organization and so ill-prepared for the increase in public attention that was gonna come once Caitlin Clark got in the league.

The reason you could argue BOTH is because you could absolutely make a case that they welcome any and all publicity because it keeps the WNBA in the media spotlight, even if it's not at all about the product on the floor........which to be honest is not always worth bragging about, and certain hasn't been, in a lot of ways, for most of its history.

So they are fine with letting the media run wild with debates about why someone wasn't included on a WNBA-sponsored 30th anniversary poster, rather than having a spokesperson simply squash all this immediately after speculation began, by saying certain players couldn't be included because of image rights.

They show zero initiative to get ahead on damage control with the media regarding any kind of publicity, but especially if it's negative.

Regardless of how intentional it is that they choose to either stay silent or have the reaction time of a sloth rolling through mud on a public relations/off-court issue or player issue, they truly are one of the worst-run leagues in the country.

This kind of sh** just wouldn't happen under the same circumstances in any other professional league and not even @WDSMHawk can find a way to downplay that, even if he tries because I goaded him into it. 😉

Well, this guy did short stints with ESPN and CNBC. He had a couple of controversies after his employment at CNBC in which he apologized to an individual he was reporting on, and also an apology to his readers for another controversy. He works for an agency that compiles statistics on sports, and that is a source for betting, from what I've read.

My takeaway is simply this: Can his account be corroborated by either the WNBA or Clark's camp? So far, we have his word only. It would be informative to have some substance behind his comments. I know about the contractual conflict mentioned on here already, but I'd like to hear from the contractual parties and not just someone who may have "Insider Information".

Until I see some substantive information, all I see are media outlets regurgitating his Tweet.

So if this truly was a rights issue that prevented the WNBA from using Caitlin’s likeness, which Einstein at the League dropped the ball and either did not negotiate the issue or was incompetent enough to not get permission. This still falls on the W for screwing up an easily anticipated and easily resolved issue.

Is the "because of image likeness restriction" really the reason she is left off?

I'd have to think that being part of the WNBA would allow the WNBA to have her on her poster.... I mean she has a WNBA contract.

This feels like a thing, that if it's a license thing.... She also wouldn't be on any of the press/promos for Fever games either.... Because of "image and license restrictions".

Diana T. was also left off.... so further proof that the WNBA is ran by idiots.

The W should create their own posters. That way they can say "Put on a poster" just like the men!!!!

To add, if its really as simple as they don't have the rights to her image, (that's seems like total BS, she's on LOTS of other stuff) then why would league spokesman or heaven forbid the commish (who no one ever hears a word from) come out and just say that, and put this to bed?

The NBA does not have rights on their player's image unless they have secured it from the player.

They can use players in highlights and other media. Things like trading cards they can't, that goes through the player to negotiate.

I would guess selling a poster would be like a trading card and need players permission.

DP should easily be able to check this with 40 some years in the business.

Why doesn't Clark come out with a comment that tells her fans that the reason she was not on the poster is because of her existing NIL licensing deals instead of letting them freak out at some imagined slight?

Why is it her responsibility and not he leagues, if that even IS the issue? (Has that been confirmed)? She didn't print the poster. And what exactly is your issue with her? She had nothing to do with this, nor has she asked for any of this backlash the last three years. As for the 'imagined slight". Is it your stance that (if they could have put her on the poster) it makes total sense that they would put 30 players on the poster and yet the ONE player who has changed the financial trajectory of this entire league, is already breaking career league records and would certainly be considered one of the leagues top 5-10 players should not be on the poster? That's your stance. This is not a "CC22 fan club issue" as your trying to portray it. Many sports personalities and media folks have chimed in on how ridiculous this is, and that the league is once again shooting themselves in the foot, and you think its Clarks issue to address......

I know why clark is so silent... she is planning something. or doing something. or both. no comment, from her.

That's what I mentioned in post #8.
