But even if this LAST charge was trumped up… I don’t want him in IC after showing his a$$ this last number of years and for the charges he’s already caught around the country.
How could last charge be considered trumped up?

NE law requires any speeding twice or more of the speed limit to be reckless endangerment.

Is that what is being referred to as potentially trumped up?

Report said 110 in 55, to that end. He was probably doing the 120 on a 65 or higher road.

What if one had kids or grandkids that were playing in this neighborhood? Would they think it trumped up?

Was there any proof he was driving listed in the report such as an eyewitness? Otherwise a good lawyer will have him plea down quite a bit.
Based on what I read, the police reported IDing him. But it didn't necessarily claim it happened as he drove by at 120mph or during the pursuit, or as AJ ditched the vehicle and fled on foot.

I read it as information at the vehicle led police to ID AJ as the driver.

That said, AJ's cell location could track the vehicle's route and speed, and depart the ditch site at 9:41ish. Most likely same cell location or address (if rental car) allowed police to locate him Saturday. Maybe had to get a judge to sign a warrant. Did he leave his cell in the car?

I believe AJ would have to ID the actual driver or report the car stolen (which I understand he did not). One also might reason from the available information that the cop witnessed only one person flee the vehicle.

False reporting the car stolen risks an additional count of obstruction of justice.

Therefore, I think that evidence could prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, regardless of his lawyers' position to try and negotiate a plea deal, informally coordinated between TX and NE.

My point was that the AJ to Iowa ship sailed many incidents and infractions back, imo. He could have his own plaque on a pew at this point, and I wouldn’t want him on the Iowa squad.

I agree with you. But another poster I respect said he’d need to see the court’s decision on these newest charges before deciding if he’d want him back on the team. Capisce?

I looked into why 'fleeing in a motor vehicle' isn't covered by 'obstruction of justice' (my inferring the latter was possibly the "trumping up").

I learned obstruction of justice is generally applicable where no physical harm to others is created through passive behavior. In contrast, fleeing in a motor vehicle (with attendant speed) actively introduces a safety aspect (physical danger to others).

So fleeing in a motor vehicle has to be charged separately for increased penalties beyond general obstruction of justice. Then NE law introduces the mandatory charging when posted speed is doubled to add felony reckless endangerment. There is a progressive increase in penalties, which makes sense to me. All this before repeat offense might be considered in the penalties.

Agree. I'm no lawyer, but I'd think this would fall into the lane of circumstantial evidence that's more than enough to clear the "reasonable doubt" bar... similar to if you wake up in the morning, look outside, see that the streets/driveways/yards/etc. are wet, and based on that evidence can therefore claim that it rained, even though you didn't actually see it rain.

Once arrested, did AJ lawyer up? That's his right, so no reason to be swayed by that choice alone. Still, if he didn't that information would be interesting, once it might come to light.

I lost a grandfather who was killed in a car accident because of a couple of idiots who did exactly what Ferrari did in the accident when he was at Okie St. Just dumb luck there wasn't someone in the other lane coming over the top of that hill. Dude could be in prison right now for vehicular homicide. And now he leads police on a 120 mph chase where he crashed into a ditch and ran. I don't know how anyone can have a shred of sympathy for this a$$hat. *** him.
My dad went to probably 15 Big 10 tournaments on our ‘annual guy thing’; Loved the sport of wrestling. He was driving on Route 20 in Ohio en route to visit his brother when a guy in a Cadillac Escalade - high on crack was passing and crossed over the double yellow line, ran straight into dad’s car. Totalled the car, and the guy had no insurance.

Dad went into a rehab facility and never came out. PLEASE, someone have the courage to give this knucklehead his due sentence.

If Iowa was an option, he would have been here last year or not still been in the portal this year. He isn't wrestling again in college now anyway.

I'll bet that there's still some of you morans that want him on next season's squad. You fools seem to come out of the woodwork every time AJ's name is comes up until AJ does something crazy again, then you disappear like roaches when the light comes on. You know who you are.

This x 100! It keeps happening bc the consequences haven't been enough to force change... or at least more strongly encourage it. Odds are high this has been the story his entire life.
The problem seems to be cars, especially fast ones and his lack of impulse control. At a minimum he should lose his license for a long time. Maybe being a race car driver is his calling, as long as he gets around town on public transportation or Ubers. IC still has that cam bus system right? But seriously, you would think escaping what should have been a sure death in that first accident would scare you straight, but I think it made him feel invincible. Needs psychological help and a long lose of driver’s license or he will definitely kill somebody and/or himself. Imagine what he would be like behind the wheel if he was a big drinker.

Only "kinda?"

Give him a break. It's not easy to admit you've been conned by someone you spend zero time with and have never met.

First, you had me on the first few sentences. Well done. But as for the bold, I have news for you: he already did.

Didnt he say he has been in talks with 20 teams and would make a decision this week. I think he tries to go to Campbell with Anthony. Surely less money from them or any school at this point. Is there any div 1 school going to give him another shot to make a run at 97?

If you are in talks with 20 teams you are not in serious talks with any teams.

Guilty. I wanted him on the team until this latest incident.

Or maybe not guilty, since I don't want him on next year's squad and didn't disappear like a roach.

But I recognized myself in your description.

I am similar to you in that regard. I was more than willing to take on a NCAA Champ and brother of a teammate with baggage, as long as he could stay clean. He managed to AA twice for 2 different teams before his latest mess.

Sadly, he is too much of a meathead to realize how much all his decisions have cost him. Hopefully Angelo doesn’t get caught up in any of the family drama and can separate himself as much as possible going forward…

under new 5 for 5 after 19years old rule he will not be eligible after the 26/27 season. he’ll be 25 this july. looks like his college wrestling may be done after this upcoming season.

I think he has no choice but to opt to stay on the current rule set. With that he gets one more year for sure, or two if he can get a hardship waiver.

BUT....

For him to have two more years he would need to get a hardship waiver for 2022 (which by the letter of the rule he does not qualify for having participated in more than 6 dates of competition - the wrestling definition of 30%).

To get a hardship waiver he would need a school to submit a request on his behalf by July 31.

What school is going to submit a request for him?

As far as I know he is not currently affiliated with any school. And I cannot imagine he would have much of a chance to get that done in the next month without the legal issues hanging over his head. With the legal issues, the likelihood is within rounding distance of 0%.

This guy had a shot at five titles, but he has gone out of his way to ensure that did not happen. I get that he did not win twice, but who is to say that if he could have figured out a way to not get shown the door at Oklahoma State (or Iowa) that he could not have continued to win titles? Being forced away from the sport for three years through his own actions has a funny way of not making him a better wrestler.

He is one of the most self-destructive athletes I have ever seen. Yes, there is a lot of competition for that title, but he is absolutely in the conversation.

That's what happens when I try to be discreet. I didn't mean YOU.
I realize that desperate times create desperation. We all want to win, and AJ wins, but you also get the batsh*t crazy with all that talent.
Someday if there's ever a Federal All-Penitentairy team, I'm betting that AJ will be on it. My personal hope is that Penn State will pick him up. :D
