Has anyone flown into/out of Omaha recently?
I had to for work a few times about 10 years ago. It felt like a gas station with airplanes.

Has it gotten any better?
Been there within the last month. Still under construction but getting betterish. The only thing I like about it is. It’s a 30 min drive taking 680 and security is never really a hassle. Food options suck still. Been in there numerous times at every hour of the day and still see places that I have never seen open

Outstanding input.

I really do like where we’re at since my return.

What did you think was bad about Schiphol? One of the cleanest airports I’ve ever been in you don’t have to take anything out of bags going through security and the train to Amsterdam Central is in the basement. Been there a handful of times and have never had an issue. Not judgmental just curious as to why you thought it was so bad

Have to agree. Schipol is one of my favorite Euro hubs. Plenty of direct flights to the US. Quick access by train to Amsterdam Central Station which is a fantastic high speed hub to just about anywhere.

I too enjoy the banter though I will say your attention seeking is unbecoming.

"Hey guys, Im going to leave for the 3rd time and maybe ill come back"...

"O hey guys, Im back from my random break nobody cared about and followed you here, surely you are interested in what Im doing"

I just remember on the return trip home being herded through this long crush of bodies with confusing signage and realizing when I was close to Passport Control, that I was in the wrong line for American tourists. Thankfully, I was able to get them to let me open the ropes that divide the lanes and cut in line. It took more than an hour to get through which is ridiculous.

"When flying from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol back to the United States, all non-Schengen flights require you to pass through Passport Control (operated by the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee)

Because the US is a non-Schengen destination, the airport funnels massive crowds of passengers into these centralized zones where your passport is checked before you are allowed to board."

See - I like that you’re souring and post things like this vs. the banter. It’s the little things on (orange) HORT.

BOS is definitely hit or miss for me on domestic flights, but it has been pretty decent for international travel so far. Relatively small sample size over the last year but I’m happy so far.
I went through on my connecting flight from Atlanta to Madrid and they funneled us to some small basement room where we had to stand along a wall for 20 minutes until some buses pulled up to take us to our terminal, crazy long bus ride for one airport and then when we got to our terminal, it felt like it was 80 degrees with no AC. Made worse by a three hour flight delay with the only explanation "something was frozen and it needed to thaw." 🤷‍♂️

That is a negative experience for sure. Sweating your a** off before getting on a plane for 7-8 hours is no bueno. Maybe I’ve been pretty lucky so far.

I had a 2 hour layover in LAX turn into a 8 hour layover when I was heading to Australia due to a mechanical issue. 3 of those extra hours were us sitting on the plane at the jet way.

One of the guys on the flight starts to get grumpy and agitated. I look at him and say that we are flying over the Pacific ocean and it is better that they take the time to fix it right the first time.

That was my first trip by plane and it has kind of shaped the way I view air travel - I don't care how much time I spend in an airport as long as I get where I am going safely.

Favorite: PDX

Least Favorite: DFW, which I only put in front of O'Hare because I have gone through DFW way more than O'Hare, but every time I've gone through O'Hare I've been delayed.

This is the way. You control absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things.

That said, I’ve been in the game long enough to know when we’re getting jerked around. I mentioned this on an old HORT post but I know a couple pilots for major airlines. BS excuses veiled as safety is often how they manage the herd at the gate, particularly when you have to deal with second class regionals all the time. A polite email expressing your displeasure after the event when that happens is worthwhile.

If I never see ORD again, it will be too soon. Since you’ve only been at it a couple years, you’ve got a while to earn my level of road warrior stripes. But if you stay the course for a couple decades, ORD will f*ck you. You will hate it.
I’m with WDDT on this. But it is my home airport so I never have to worry about a missed connection.

This is a fun thread for me. I traveled for work for 25+ years. I went back and added it up and came up with the commercial airports I've experienced. 58 airports in 35 states and 12 airports in 6 other countries. I like the small airport on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.

The smallest and funniest airport I've been to was the one in Santa Fe NM. I flew into Albuquerque, picked up my rental SUV and drove to Santa Fe to pick-up the rest of the group who flew in there. I asked the people inside where baggage claim was and they told me I'd have to go back outside and it was a couple buildings down. Couldn't locate it to save my life until I realized their baggage claim was a double-wide trailer 😅. No lie!

That’s the hack. Live near Chicago. Have to take regional hop to get there and back and over time you’ll begin to despise the place.
Yeah those RJs get cancelled all the time, that would suck. Plus schlepping between terminal 1 and 2 is a pain in the arse.

But living here honestly the only complaint is how long it takes to taxi to and from the runway. I can fly most places without a connection, the United Club’s are just fine and i know the place like the back of my hand.

Reminds me of Del Norte Co airport up in Crescent City, CA. I asked where baggage claim was and they pointed to a sign on the wall next to a door. 😂.

Best - ATL (manages the extreme amount of people and aircraft movements better than anywhere else in the world. Triple landing procedures and end-around taxiways. Concourse modernization, etc.)

Personal Favorite - SFO (picturesque and dual takeoff/landing procedures are amazing although FAA is permanently ending this and it will turn into a shitshow)

Honorable Mentions - LGA & PHX. New LGA is beautiful but will still be delayed prone and still no direct train connection (street traffic still sucks). PHX - Great weather, smooth operations flow, new taxiways, rebuilt T3 is beautiful with amenities galore and new T2 to be built in 5-10 years. Central location. It just plain works.

Beautiful - SEA for the southern departure/arrival flow on clear days circling Mt. Rainier

WORST - CLT because of AA and it’s laid out like a kid built it. And OMA because every single thing about Omaha and Nebraska sucks butt.

Best International - FRA for classic design, and new runway and terminal improvements. Connection to city great. AMS and Schipol honorable mention.

Worst International - CDG and it’s not even close
