No MULLEN, no way... that guy lost at least three EBs while texting during the game with other schools' Ad's, and having our team totally unprepared.

He was entertaining job opportunities because he made us a winner. I’d taken that all day long compared to where we are right now. Mullen would need to win here for at least 3 seasons before any team would come calling. Sign me up for that.

Of course it does. Everybody wants to play for a winner instead of a loser. Plus they held on to Turner about 3 years too long. Im not wanting to fire the head coach but he has got to pull his head out of his a$$. Unless a kid grew up in a diehard bulldog family he is not picking us over OM and that is sickening but true

Hopefully he is moving the pieces around on the board correctly. He hired a bad DC. Im thinking that is fixed. WR coach, secondary coach improved. OL coach is a big step up. Cody was in the process of getting canned at Arkansas. Loadholt will do better this year and continue to. improve. Does anyone think Pete is gonna be able to continue the success up there ? I do not. I hope he melts down.

Well, he beat Georgia and almost beat Miami. Then he brought in the #2 ranked portal class. And currently has the 10th most 4*/5* recruits committed. People thinking oh what we're seeing is cyclical and now that Kiffin is gone they're going to revert back to what we wish they were are living in a 17ing fantasy land. Open your eyes, what we're seeing is a fundamental change in the dynamic in the state of Mississippi. And it's very bad for us unless we wake up quickly.

Hell yea. And has turned UNLV around in short time.

If the same people, who are absolutely not serious about football success, hire another coordinator that has to "learn on the job".... this program is over. Done. Felina.

These aren't just good recruits, they are recruits in our freaking backyard. OM boosters wouldn't allow that but our Virginia slims just say "oh well, at least we have baseball".
It pisses me off how much our fans care about baseball but allow football to wonder aimlessly. We got to get someone in like Mullen, Cignetti, etc to change our culture with football. Stop accepting mediocrity in this program

There it is. Who had 9 posts into the second page for football’s problems to be baseball’s fault?

I never said it was the baseball programs fault. It's the fault of the fans/boosters that don't hold the football program to a better standard like they do in baseball

Or it could be that the majority of fans / boosters know Lebby is a lost cause, and aren’t willing to spend big bucks on players until he’s out. That’s why we had to fire him last year, when there was a still a chance to generate some excitement from a change.

No coach can win now without the full 100% financial backing of the boosters and NIL, no matter how good they are. Lebby, for all his faults, isn’t going to have that at all this season….and that part isn’t really his fault. He’s not really getting enough rope to hang himself, if that makes sense. But he’s still going to hang just the same.

If Montgomery becomes the interim mid season, hecwill become the permanent cowch on December 1. Book it. Selmon will be able to claim he hired a former D1 Head Coach while needing to keep the recruiting class together!

Jesus. How bad is it when you already have a tentative decision made on an interim coach following a mid-season firing, when the season doesn’t even kick off for 2 more months?

If this is true, WHY not just fire the guy last November?
LOL that's my opinion.

Tennessee, Florida, Texas. We SHOULD have won all 3. We lost them all. You can throw in Arizona State if you want to give credit, but the fact is that when it mattered the most he shriveled up like a scrotum in a blizzard.

He's gotta go.

We can do so much better but so many of our fans just give up and think we can't compete anymore. Indiana can win the National Championship but there's just no way Miss State can win 7 or 8 games.

Bottom line, a good coach will turn us around, just like Mullen did, but we really need for everyone to pull in the same direction to make this happen after the season is over.

Agreed. I have never been so ready for the football season to be over. I just don't see Lebby doing it.

Part of it is is that Lebby does absolutely nothing to rally the fan base. I’ve mentioned this before, but there is zero interaction with our fans trying to rally support. He just might be at the point that he’s good with the paycheck and he knows his time is limited.

Our fanbase soothes themselves on baseball and alleged moral superiority. Meanwhile, they win. I’m full up on the first two. I’d pave DNF myself if it would energize us to try and focus on what matters: Football first, second and third.

If he was winning no one would care, but Lebby is a non-entity during the offseason. Leach went to Key West for a weeks at a time and he still felt like a bigger part of the community than Lebby. Does he even live in town? Maybe he spends every waking minute at the football offices. I dunno.

Selmon really fumbled his first big test.

Shmuley if they wait until 11/1/26, that's just flat out slothful. That would be right after our 8th game against Texas. What is going to delay the inevitable before the Alabama game? I'm thinking 9/27 would be more of the correct date for something to happen.
Why are we playing Tx eight times this year? That has to be rigged! *****

Nobody in Administration really cares. If they did, State would have a $10 mil a year successful HC in his first year in 2026.
Absent a unique situation state should
Never have a $10 million first year HC. Anyone that should command that isn’t coming to state

The gnashing of teeth about Lebby is pointless.

MSU should re-write the playbook on coaching contracts. The current “playbook” on new hires really screws schools that can’t just pay a ridiculous buyout to an unproven hire that flames out. Find a young coach with drive, and incentivize progress.

For the first year:
One year contract.
$1 Million dollars per win.
Bonus structure for post season, etc…
Million dollar bonus for beating OM.

If the MF sucks, bye. If he hits, make the Jimmy Sexton deal.

Who is Montgomery? I’m sure he’d be better than Lebby. And good chance better than anyone else Selmon would hire.

I think sometimes out of state coaches with no connection to MS think, "well, that's how it's supposed to be. MSU doesn't get top recruits." But that's not at all the full picture. Since Rocky Felker really, we've cleaned up with big DL's in-state. Until now that is. Now we can't get one on campus.

It takes an ******* (see Sherrill) or someone with a little arrogance (Mullen) to be successful at Mississippi State. Nice guys can win and even thrive at some places, but not here.

I like Lebby. I hope he figure out how to win on the field, and he showed signs last year. But the fact that he hasn't been able to land a big DL from 30 minutes down the road in several tries is really troubling.

Hopefully we'll get some chaos in Oxford this year and some of those doors will re-open. I do think that is a strong possibility. Those guys they signed didn't come to Oxford for a Music City Bowl under Playoff Pete.
I’m not sure I agree that he showed signs of figuring it out last year. The signs I saw blowing a lead against Texas, damn near blowing a lead against Arizona State, getting embarrassed by Missouri, making a terrible decision to cost us the game against Florida, calling 69 consecutive quarterback sneaks…. The best thing he had happen all year was Arizona state being dumb enough to try and guard Thompson 1 on 1

Well it’s not amateur football anymore, so it’s probably a stacked deck anyway. If Lebby can’t figure out how to beat someone after playing them 8 times in a row, do you really need the outcomes of every single one of them to make a logical decision? That would be pure torture 😂.

We spend way too much on baseball GIVEN where we are on the bill payer. If football can’t be at least mediocre, the money for baseball will eventually disappear too. It really is that simple.

The money we spend on baseball isn’t a drop in the bucket compared to football. It not like if we cut baseball to spending to $0 football would be doing any better. The problem is we don’t take football seriously. And other than a couple of brief periods we never have.

I know most are focused on the top ten....but look at #40 (Gage Luther). He commits to Memphis, even though we offered. Maybe he's a project, maybe not. But he has the measurables we need in an OL & DL. 6'6"/305, doesn't look fat or otherwise, but Huff comes down to Pontotoc and gets him. Now, how good a player he is, I don't know......but then again, I really don't know how good are the #1-5's either. The whole list just screams "we're not protecting our borders". Schools from everywhere coming in and scooping up the most highly thought of. Never seen this little of an impact our school is having on Mississippi youngsters. When you see buzzards circling an area below, it means something is dying....I just hope that something dying or dead isn't us. It will all be judged on wins/losses anyway. I'll be in my seat for the ULM game for good or for worse, BTW, the last time I saw us play ULM, they beat the dogshit out of us.
