Carlo Barone had to miss class today, so he’ll have to attend virtually as Brian Hadad lays out the men he believes are the greatest receivers in Mississippi State history. From the early 80’s on, four Bulldogs stood out to secure their spots on the T&L All Time Team.

Yea it’s Moulds period a Bonafide stud for us #1 and then the rest. We’ve had some nifty and awfully speedy receivers and or fairly big guys that’s what’s missing we need a big strong and fast receiver like Metcalf in college if only we would’ve recruited him I’ve heard he always wanted to play for state him and . But so did Archie Manning way back grew up a State fan and wanted to play Baseball at MSU and Football also and we said no and we see how that turned out for us but real standout studs? I hope that’s what we are changing these days and getting after players like AJ Brown too, was it him or Metcalf that were pissed that we lightly recruited them and switched to OM or both? I forget at this hour

Moulds is #1 by a landslide. #2 is where the debate starts. I started watching in the 90s so I don't have an opinion on older than that. Some great guys from the 80s and farther back. I will just go over the guys I have seen.

Probably going with Fred Ross or Bumphis at 2/3. If you go with just one season instead of career then Thompson is in the conversation.

That's who I came here to mention, most on here would be too young to have seen him. 3x All SEC ('78-'80), 2nd round pick of the Vikings and played 3 seasons and I think retired with back issues. Ahmad Rashad was their top receiver then and McDole was mainly a return specialist for them, but he was hell on wheels in the SEC

AJ claimed MSU didn't recruit him. He was never coming to MSU & Mullen knew it and didn't waste energy on him.
DK Metcalf's dad (Terrence) played OL at Ole Miss & in the NFL and DK was raised in Oxford.

This is a really, really easy one for anyone who was around in the 90's.

I've watched 'em all since the early 70s. I get that it was a different era and that we've had several 'good' receivers in the last 20 years, but these guys were the tops.

McDole and Knight were great enough to make John Bond look like a passing QB.

I remember one of the old Athlon headlines when Bellard took over in 1979. "McDole in the Wishbone is Like Hooking Spectacular Bid to a Plow." He had severe back issues when he was playing for State.

I wouldn't go that far. After catching 48 passes as a SO (that was a lot back then), he caught 20 in Bellard's 1st season as a JR. Bellard then broke the Wishbone and ran the Wingbone in his 2nd season. He said, "We may not can throw it to him, but we can damn sure hand it off to him."

Did any other of you old timer's grit you teeth when Brian mispronounced Mardye's last name? Sorry Brian, I am sure several have pointed this out to you already.

Speaking of McDole. I remember when he burst on the scene with Dave Marler in 1978 the former kicker turned QB who passed for 2,400 yards in a season. That was so foreign and exciting for our team. We could pass it up and down the field but unfortunately could not score once we got close. I seem to remember that we lost to auburn 6-0 and had over 200 yards passing or something like that.

Any of yall remember "This Guy Can Fly" from the Reflector? I remember this very play. Looks photoshopped but NOPE.

ETA: Deshea Townsend probably thinking "WTF!?!?!?!"
State was soooooo close to knocking off the national-champions-to-be that night…

Now that you say that I do remember that shi* appreciate the refresher for real I needed it for some reason was a bit rusty last few days. My fault. Just imagine if we’d had em both although that was beyond yesterday’s news that we weren’t and didn’t get them. Speaking of yall know that show Ridiculousness that’s fully streamable on Paramount+ and air lots on MTV I’m sure? The other day this Ole Miss student/fraternity looking party girl represented her school absolutely right in the clip where they asked her to spell Ole Miss while drinking and she spelled it OAL-Miss it’s funny as hell they rewound it and clowned on her multiple times. My fiance was watching it and it caught us off guard we both just looked at each other and laughed our asses off as they got clowned on national tv

What’s unique about it though? I know you mean it sucked and in my defense I was more than ready for bed or are you genuinely saying that my attention to it is unique. Yes I’m halfway kidding as I can sense the sarcasm but thanks for bringing it to my “most important tasks list”. I’d been drinking some liquor lol, my grandmother was an English teacher of 30 years and has spent my lifetime correcting me. Believe me when I say if I’d have gave given anymore of a **** it would be different when i posted. Kind of like tonight not much effort put into punctuation. Maybe a small amount more.
