But still no Ridgewood. I wonder if Pounds still holds a grudge. Top guy this year to Penn St.
No idea why he would hold a grudge but you can't win them all. With Beida on staff, NJ recruiting is going to get better and better.

Did we try recruiting the West Morris fogo who is going to MD?

Great to see our recruits doing well and just caught up on the transfer portal thread. Looks like we picked up another good one (per Cali)

I know Mavilos was very high on the faceoff board. I’m sure they would have taken the Maryland fogo too but you can’t get them all. Hopefully he does better than the last 4* fogo from NJ that they got. He’s been riding pine for 3 or 4 years.

Mavilos was the guy. Let’s see how it all plays out. They view him highly.

Jack Combs is the LSM xfer from Vermont. Hes a monster. He’s long, can run, has great feet to cover and when he gets the ball can clear and ignite fast breaks. A true difference maker between the lines.

We might have the best portal class in lacrosse. With the 5 year rule we will have most for 2 years or more.

I am sure we did. Luke Gouse has been the best face off kid in NJ at his age for at least the last 10 years, Maryland is getting a very good player.

that's his name! it was eluding me.

I was watching him play in a game and was like "WTF...can this team win a FO??" (I dont think they won one the entire game)...and the person sitting next to me told me this kids going to MD as a FOGO!!

LOL

I’m sure he’s good but there is a massive difference in comp between a small grip public school and Chaminade. Chaminade is elite and plays an elite schedule. You’re seeing him against the highest level comp there is. It’s a real crapshoot position at the end of the day.

Guy who stands next to me on the train platform in the morning was the goalie for Chaminade back in the day. He had a nice career at Navy (when they had some excellent years). Notre Dame always seems to land several kids from there. A real powerhouse school.

They put a ton of kids into high level D1. Their current team has 20 D1 commits, many to high level D1. Not sure any school owns that pipeline but it's an A1 top tier school to draw from. 20 D1 commits is crazy.

Not arguing with you on the premise of your point. And I don't claim to know West Morris's exact schedule but they probably played Chatham Delbarton and a bunch of other really good schools with several D1 kids

Just saying that I am sure he's gone up against elite comp himself tho I will fully admit that chaminade plays a much tougher schedule and probably plays more elite opponents on a game over game basis

At the end of the day I just hope that we lock down this position because it's been a position of weakness for us in general and definitely moreso in big games

A better marker than comparing high schools is their club teams (nationally ranked). Gouse plays for BBL Black at 10 and Mavilos Shore 2 Shore at 11 so both are very high level and have probably gone against each other a few times.

Thanks! Makes sense.

I am definitely not familiar with either the HS or Club Lax scene

Not sure I’d completely agree. We had some lean years after Nardella but he was lights out. Before that it was long a position of strength. Paolatto in 25 was legit. Scarelli in 26 was getting better and better playing his best at the end of the year. We missed him a lot after Hopkins. But yea, great teams control the x typically. We need to get there. We have another commit in the 27 class that the staff is high on too. Let’s see how it goes.

The best school W Morris played was Chatham. They didn’t play any of the privates much less a number of other elite ones from around the country. Chaminade essentially played a national schedule of elite teams. I’m sure the kid is good, Maryland knows how to recruit, but from a competition perspective it’s two different levels.

My experience with elite HS is they are much closer in terms of intensity and preparation is much closer to what you will see in college than even elite club teams.

Those club teams are essentially recruiting events comparatively.

Between chamanaide and st Anthony’s those players make up the majority of club teams LI Express and 91. Those are the elite club teams on Long Island.

Elite nationally I would think. St Anthony’s is another school putting a tremendous amount of high level D1 talent out every year.

I see that Mavlios (our FOGO commit from Chaminade) returned from a groin injury to play in their final game, a close 13-12 loss to St. Anthony's. Chaminade had IL's number rated player who's is going to Duke, their goalie to ND, and another guy going to UVA. 20 players committed to play in college. Basically an all star team.

2027 FOGO commit apparently tore his ACL.

the last NJ FOGO 5* #17 top ranked in the class (Creter) has barely seen the field at MD and likely never will. Played for Hunterdon Central. I’d take my chances with a Chaminade FOGO that has played one of the hardest schedules in the country and trains in a college environment.

Flip side of MD FOGOs, their all-time leader in every category, Wierman, got rated a 77 by IL and I don’t think had any stars. Was committed to Fairfield until the coach left and vouched for him with MD HC who rolled the dice. Toughest position to judge future success

Never said they’d be AA but it wouldn’t surprise me. Kinda funny how 3 unranked players made the Summit though. Did your son get an invite?
He’s a 2027 just wrapped up first leg of summer and chillin until New Balance AA.
