I'm just a casual World Cup fan but this has been an excellent Group stage so far. Most games are competitive or compelling and Stars are doing Star things. Messi with 5 goals in 2 games, Mbappe and Haaland with 4, USA looking like their best team in my lifetime and all the games are in U.S. timezones so I can watch them all. I'm really enjoying it.

Ronaldo scored a brace today as Portugal routed Uzbekistan. Ronaldo has now scored in 6 WCs -- the most of any player in history.

Yeah, he scored 2 early and they were all trying to get him the hat trick. Mbappe and Haaland too. They want to match Messi. If Messi hadn't missed the penalty kick vs Austria he'd have hat tricks in both games. Guy is amazing.

FIFA being fifa and letting Messi and Argentina do whatever. The amount of PK’s argentina have received in the last 2 world cups is insane. Some calls going srgentinas way were ridiculous… Ghana should have had a pk yesterday, and Pickford should have gotten a red also… it’s just insane

Went to the Norway v Senegal game last night and had a great time. Sellout and got to see Haaland score another brace.
Was there also… Senegal actually looked better and quicker than Norway, but Senegal made too many horrible mistakes with the ball and Norway has Haaland. Senegal gifted the first goal to Norway right before the end of the first half…

Also Messi’s first goal should have never counted, he also probably shouldn’t have been in the game because of his foul he committed against Algeria…

Norways defense limits how far they can go. Round of 16 appears limit. Do want to see Haaland play as long as possible.

Senegal is very naturally gifted. Speed, agility, athleticism. But yeah, they cant put it together. They are also in a tough draw with Norway and France.

I don't want the US to play them in the rd of 32

I disagree. Odegaard is a phenomenal talent. He had a poor match in game 1, and showed better in game 2. Haaland is a beast and his confidence, reminds me of Norways ultra xcountry star Klaebo, but having his dynamic mid play very well, is the way for the Norse to advance a few rounds.

Norway tied Morocco 1-1 in their last friendly at Red Bulls stadium. I attended and it was a very even match. Norway had one other goal taken away for a foul

I can’t help but think the USMNT is a Tim Howard and Oguchi Onyewu away from being a legit contender this World Cup at home. In reality they probably need more depth on their bench which was evident last night.

Why do I feel like Matt Freese should be the starting goalie? I just feel more comfortable with him back there.

I agree and he is the starter. Just got rested like the rest of the starters vs Turkiye. The high number of goals allowed were mostly a result of a weak backline bench defensive unit but I don't feel confident in Turner either.

Excuse me, I meant Turner, I feel more comfortable with Turner back there. And agreed on the goals conceded not being the fault of the goalies, but poor backline play.

Sucks that Norway is resting 10 starters vs France today. Both will advance with the winner winning the Group. Haaland and Mbappe on the same field would be fun. Haaland not starting today but France has Mbappe starting.

I saw Spain play for the third game against Uruguay. This is not the Spain team we expected. Clearly, Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams and Rodri are not fully fit. Probably at 75%. Spain is lacking that speed on the wings that led to direct attacks and opened up the middle of the pitch.
Moreover, the lineups the manager has put in have me scratching my head. Danny Olmo needs to be starting every game. Zubimendi ahould start instead of Rodri. Yes I know he is a ballon d Or player but he is not that player right now.

i am not sure this team will get better with all these health issues. My final game will be in LA. Hopefully, these players will get better and return to full health.

btw, as bad as Spain played, Uruguay played worse and then turned into thugs in the second half just looking to hurt the Spanish players. Disgraceful display by Uruguay.

IRAN Got absolutely screwed with that fixed sham of a game last night between Algeria and Austria along with several questionable goals overtuned via VAR

Paraguay just stunned Germany in PKs to advance to round of 16.

US beat Paraguay 3-1 during group stages.

This is going to be an interesting WC.

Shocking day of soccer as both Germany and the Netherlands go down today. Whats more shocking is that the Dutch were dominated in possession by Morroco. I didn’t see that coming. Morroco deserved the win but just shocked how the Dutch played.
Germany on the other hand was clearly the better team. Paraguay played to get to PKs where anything can happen.

Netherlands like you said, didn’t impress and once Morocco got the late goal to tie, you could feel the upset. Very impressive win by them.
