for me it’s curious to say the least that he went #20 to the Spurs … and assuming it was common knowledge amongst those who matter that he needed additional surgery … I wish him well, but the chances of him being more than a role player don’t seem good right now …

Everything UK wise with Quaintance was just awful. He’s injury prone. He has the knees of an 90 year old. His 5 months here are forgettable at best.

I'm going post a post I posted earlier on JQ because we really don't need two posts on him at this point.

------------

In an NBA full of elite athletes, a healthy JQ would be right at the top of the category. His physical tools and defensive instincts are (again if healthy) game changing at any level. Pope gambled and lost. I don't blame Pope for rolling the dice on him. We'll see what happens with the Spurs. If JQ never fully recovers it will be a shame not to see what he could have been.

Didn't you call him a pos, and say he was healthy because you saw him walk at a game ?

A lot of people really do owe the kid an apology. But I bet we don’t see much of it —- there used to be a time when manliness was equated with humility and earnestness. We have now perverted the concept by red-pilling it into oblivion. Always double down when you’re wrong…I don’t see that as human flourishing.

In today's world if you apologize, you're weak. If you admit you were wrong, you're weak. But if you show your a.ss and are as rude and aggressive as humanly possible, you get attention and other perks I guess I'm unaware of.

Basically, no one here is going to apologize for pretending they hate a kid or for making up stories about him. They'll just log out and log back in in a day or two and hope everyone has forgotten how awful they sounded. Heck, a few folks have quoted me in recent weeks calling me everything they could get away with and then five minutes later they're in another thread acting perfectly normal and pleasant lol. Just the way of the world now. Social media gave people split personalities.

Once some have it stuck in their head they will never admit they could at least be wrong .

Some people still think Jarred Vanderbilt was faking an injury.

Did he tell the Spurs this before he was picked?

BTW, it says the surgery is for "discomfort."
Still not sure other than it hurting, he couldn't have played more games for us. A lot of athletes play through pain through the season. If it's risking reinjury then that is a different story.

Lol the people who qouted you just think you're a clown, it doesnt mean they have split personalities lol. The Paddock laughed at you every day, and this place hasn't been too far off either. You consistently chastise people for bringing up taboo and political topics, acting as some gatekeeper, yet you have no problem, time and time again, doing the same when it pleases you or works for your ideologies.

I also dont know what the supposed anti-JQ crowd needs to apologize for exactly? He gets drafted by the Spurs and then a day later its announced that he needs to miss the ENTIRE rookie season, AFTER we heard from UK analysts that he'd be fine. That doesnt strike anyone odd? A little, I dont know, familiar to what just happened? He gets guaranteed money for being a 1st round pick, BTW.. and I dont think many teams are taking a 1st round pick on a guy who is already missing his first year.

All we know is that this news didnt reach the public until AFTER he was drafted (hence this news dropping when it did). I think that's safe to say that's factual unless this news broke earlier and it wasnt picked up. But I posted in another thread, Pilgrim said he should be ready for the start of the season just a day or two ago. So something is off.

Did he tell the Spurs this news and they were fine to take him anyways? Did other teams know this?

JQ being drafted 20th means hes gonna get 9.5mil over 3 years with a 4th year team option that I think its worth like 4.5mil.

San Antonio can afford to gamble on another “phreak” athlete. His contract will be insured — & what a great matchup down Low with Wemby.

Honestly I hate JQ, I hope he does awful in the nba and can serve as an example of why you don’t let your loser dad live vicariously through you and burn every bridge you crossed.

also spurs just wasted their pick. Spurs should be in win now not wait 2-3 years for somebody without a distinct game/play style.

You need help.

I would argue JQ could have been a lot more open with the fan base about the status of his knee. The optics of it were this... played well at St Johns, didn't play well in the next game, "oof my knee's a little sore", "maybe I'll play, we'll see", "I'm out".

I get he wants to protect his draft stock, but I'd put a message up on my social media page talking about how it makes me sick I can't be out there, here's what's happening with my knee, I love UK, etc. Instead it looked like he was a little aloof about the thing.

Open with the fan base? Why? You don't care about him or his future.

Hindsight now, but I remember that weird gut feeling when I heard a 250lb kid was coming back after 7-8 months after ACL surgery.

In this case, the NIL money and the narrative that he could play by December cost him WAY more money in the long term. He probably shouldn't have played until Feb or March.

He his ACL surgery was March 19th

At this point, I'd kind of be shocked if he sticks in the NBA. He has very little in the way of a valued basketball skill set other than being big. But the NBA is full.of big dudes who have basketball skills. Not sure what the Spurs are thinking, but it's their money.

Unless you are a family member or friend neither do you. When they leave here, I wish them well but that's where it ends. Hating them is caustic,. But no need to engage in fake empathy for someone you don't personally know in an attempt to pull a moral superiority card.

I care about UK players (present and former) who care about UK. My guidance is for any injured athlete regardless of where they play. The reason they make money is because of the fans. Because of that, they should be open with the fans regarding injury issues. Not being open just pisses everybody off.

Oh yeah I’m just supposed to completely forgive JQ because he was injured. Hell no, you need to get into the real world. 4 million is a lot of money and it isn’t just magic money rhat comes from no where. Real people donated money to kentucky to pay JQ and what did he do for us played 4 games and never once tried to act like Kentucky meant anything. Honestly if you told me JQ was the in house Manga expert I’d believe you.

I’d completely forgive JQ had he tried to come back for year 2 but he was never going to do that.

also injured my *** he was doing tons of pre draft workouts and looked like he was in absolute top form. If his knee still hurting at this point I’m not sure he was ever meant to play basketball.
Pope knew he had a serious surgery and offered him the money. So you would turn down millions of dollars that someone offers you? If you are mad about this blame Pope not the kid.

I won’t go as far to say I hate him, but I think his year here was total BS and his dad didn’t make it any better for anyone. I think he should have sat the whole year and came back to play this year. Instead of blowing smoke about how ahead of schedule he was only to sandbag all year. He ranks right above Porter, Shady Sharpe, and right below the Dragon to me in the lowest rated Cats to me of all time.

Agree. An entire year gone. Then another half year to get back into the game.

So basically paying someone for half a season of production before its team option decision time.

I guess theyre trying the stockpiling approach they see okc work so well.
Must be nice to get rich off potential your whole life so far. Man, I wish I was born 6’10” with a frame and athletic ability like that.

I don’t think he’s injured, I think it’s a pain tolerance and comfort thing. This shows nothing other than the team probably wants their doctors to clean it up and see if he can be comfortable playing. We will never know if he could have played or not honestly. I still think he was soft and his dad sat him after getting exposed by Bama.

This is why the NBA has struggled in recent times.

Take a project with an injury over a kid who produced for 2,3,4 years…heck take a OAD who balled out.

Whether they sat at UK or theyfrom Croatia. No fan knows who these projects are.

Good luck to the kid, this is more an NBA issue and not so much about the individuals.

How dumb is it to draft a project who needs to get healthy, mature and pay him when you could’ve let him do that at UK or overseas?!

This is why NFL is king. Let ‘em develop and become household names for 3-4 years. Take the healthiest and most productive.
I think it would be fair to assume the Spurs had JQ medically examined and they feel comfortable that he has a strong prognosis after a revision surgery. The Spurs know what his issue is and are willing to give him recovery time to get things right. The kids is 18 years old so they must think this is a good gamble.
