Agree. An entire year gone. Then another half year to get back into the game.

So basically paying someone for half a season of production before its team option decision time.

I guess theyre trying the stockpiling approach they see okc work so well.
Hard to understand the Spurs taking him after the last couple years of injuries.
I wonder how his contract will be written?

This is why the NBA has struggled in recent times.

Take a project with an injury over a kid who produced for 2,3,4 years…heck take a OAD who balled out.

Whether they sat at UK or theyfrom Croatia. No fan knows who these projects are.

Good luck to the kid, this is more an NBA issue and not so much about the individuals.

How dumb is it to draft a project who needs to get healthy, mature and pay him when you could’ve let him do that at UK or overseas?!

This is why NFL is king. Let ‘em develop and become household names for 3-4 years. Take the healthiest and most productive.

Good lord some of you are losers. Does it suck he got hurt and didnt play? Yes. Are you justified in being mad and "not forgiving" him for being hurt? Hell no. Grow up.
I was not mad that he got hurt and didn't play. I got mad at every time a UK player has been hurt in the last 10 years we get ******** answers about their status.

I am a Braves fan. When Ronald Acuna gets hurt (every month), they tell me it's a grade 1, 2 or 3 tear and estimate when he will return. And if something goes wrong during rehab they say, "he has not recovered to their liking" and move him to the 60 day IL.

At Kentucky: "haven't seen him". Show your fanbase some f'ing respect.

I have to imagine he told the Spurs this over the last week, but still absolutely wild to see this news break AFTER he gets drafted.

Pilgrim tweeted his info yesterday that he was likely fine for this coming year, aside from a possible minor procedure.

Oh well, some other teams problem now. Lol

For the Spurs: the list of players who took 2.5 years off of high level basketball that came back to solid careers is pretty limited. Did the Spurs really think this was a good idea with the 20th pick and a team on rookie deals? Its not just about when JQ can play again. But when can he play again at his perceived level of potential? I think youre looking at two years out now.

This is true but medical advances have changed the picture. Injuries that used to end careers 100% of the time are now a 9 month rehab.
Btw, I believe he has always jumped mainly off the other leg so that's why his explosiveness is still there; the injured knee just has to be able to handle the stress of playing.

I’d say it to JQ’s face I ain’t scared
I’ve been mad at the world and bitter before. It’s a miserable feeling.

This is just an anonymous message board, but I truly hope you find joy and substance in your life. You can say I’m reading too deeply into it or make a joke of what I’m saying, but I’m being dead serious. Take a step back and reflect.

Honestly I hate JQ, I hope he does awful in the nba and can serve as an example of why you don’t let your loser dad live vicariously through you and burn every bridge you crossed.

also spurs just wasted their pick. Spurs should be in win now not wait 2-3 years for somebody without a distinct game/play style.
Actually, doesn't this surgery just demonstrate that he probably was NOT faking it. So why would you "hate" him then?

Oh yeah I’m just supposed to completely forgive JQ because he was injured. Hell no, you need to get into the real world. 4 million is a lot of money and it isn’t just magic money rhat comes from no where. Real people donated money to kentucky to pay JQ and what did he do for us played 4 games and never once tried to act like Kentucky meant anything. Honestly if you told me JQ was the in house Manga expert I’d believe you.

I’d completely forgive JQ had he tried to come back for year 2 but he was never going to do that.

also injured my *** he was doing tons of pre draft workouts and looked like he was in absolute top form. If his knee still hurting at this point I’m not sure he was ever meant to play basketball.
JQ made no where near 4 million. Don’t believe everything you read…..

Why you white knighting over JQ? news flash JQ isn’t going to see this and kiss you. If I made millions playing 4 games of basketball I could care less what some dude on rupp rafters says

that’s said JQ sucks and I hope he is a bust
Because you know he didn’t really have knee issues and just used UK? Seems like you lost money betting UK and blame JQ. Or you’re just a loser of a human being (as the other poster said). And no, I don’t want JQ to kiss me.

To be fair Acuna doesn’t have the same privacy protections “student athletes” have.

Dude JQ definitely had knee problems. Torn this and that. I think it’s crazy that you some how know he didn’t have knee issues, what are you the team doctor?

a player of that caliber wouldn’t sit out if he wasn’t actually somewhat hurt

Pope knew that JQ was a big gamble. He chose to offer the money anyway. I wish the kid well.

But doesn't this information officially confirm that he was being honest and that his knee actually was injured? I'm confused as to why this news wouldn't cause you (and all of us who either thought his camp was lying or weren't sure what the truth was) to reassess our take(s) on Jayden? I remained unsure about the whole thing but I certainly thought it was a distinct possibility that he was choosing to protect his nba future over playing for us. This new information tells us for certain that his knee actually was injured and that he and his camp weren't being untruthful throughout this whole controversy. I actually feel bad about the whole situation now. It sucks it played out this way even if I don't blame anyone or any side.
Exactly this! He was examined by one of the leading NBA docs who said that his knee was sound but he needed a "cleanup" procedure. Maybe that means meniscus debridement or chondral debridement, or plica or something else that won't cause a long term problem but can certainly keep his knee sore and swollen. Hard to believe him needing another procedure would cause people to hate him more and not less.

Definitely proves to me that the swelling in the knee was not imaginary and an excuse not to play.

But then you call into question why he was doing pre draft workouts/ warmup highlight vids. Doesn’t seem like it would help

I can't disagree with you there, other than maybe it got him drafted in the first round by a team who is willing to "redshirt" him long enough to recover from the cleanup surgery...in which case it was probably worth it.

It's a small gamble for the Spurs. They were already close and JQ isn't an immediate need. Once he gets healthy, the potential is there for him to be special. That's all the draft is - it's based on potential. That's one thing BBN can't seem to grasp and it's been that way since Cal was here.

The gamble was larger for us and it didn't work out but I'm not sure anyone would've predicted the cycle of injuries and Pope short-circuiting during games and then acting like young athletes in their prime need rest after a few minutes. None of that was on JQ. Some here and in the other thread are clearly taking their frustrations from last season out on a guy who's been able to move forward and pursue an NBA career. He can still be really successful and I legit think that bothers some on this board.

Contradictory of him looking “explosive“ at the NBA combine.

Coming on here filled with hate for a teenager and wishing him nothing but failure just shows an extreme immaturity level imo. No, I don't like what JQ did to UK taking all that money and playing four games, that didn't set well with me at all. But, for someone to say publicly that they hate him and wish them to be a total failure is indredibky sad to me. What kind of person makes statements like that?
