“We should play them every year,” he said. “But this is my own opinion: I think we should all come together in one league and have regions as they do in the NFL. We have Pitt and Penn State, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Virginia, Cincinnati — all those schools right around us in our area. Our fans would eat that up. That would be great, wouldn’t it? I don’t know if that’s ever going to happen because there are TV agreements for the next six or seven years, but I’d love to play Pitt every year.”

So, basically this Save Act or whatever is going to take us back to what the NCAA should have done back in the 80s, back before Georgia and Oklahoma sued them. Geez, so many mistakes made back then. Should have also legalized NIL instead of hammering SMU. That was also about the same time King Jackie was securing his huge contract from aTm.

If it passes and then Rich Rod gets what he wants, why do we need the SEC and B1G anymore other than just tradition (which it's pretty obvious they don't GAF about anyway).

For those of yall that keep claiming that the NCAA should’ve done this or that sooner, let me ask you a question.

What aspect of college sports would say has improved since this NIL revolution started?

And I get it… you want to believe that allowing some form of this to pass earlier would’ve somehow also brought stability, but I say ********. It would’ve only brought the chaos to our doorsteps a few decades sooner

Geographic scheduling? Pass! I want UCLA to fly to Maryland, then a few weeks later fly to Minnesota, then a few weeks later fly to Michigan!**

I don't disagree. But I'm coming from the idea of inevitability. I mean we had people throwing around money under the table at that time. I think the idea of 'NIL' could have been a good compromise. Then they make money on jerseys, video games, etc. That stuff is what started the law suits. Maybe we could have staved off this whole direct pay-to-play shlt. Or at least kept it under the table.

The money can only get so big for so long. When a gap gets too big, you have an upheaval. Perhaps if we'd kept the coaches salaries under control, or if we'd limited when they can leave, we might have kept the transfer portal under control too.

But to answer your question, the games themselves are definitely better than anything we've had since the BCS era. And the expanded playoff was also sorely needed. TV market also much better.

Indiana won the National Championship with an extremely entertaining football team.

As far as doing things sooner, I just think we would be better off if the athletic leadership had the foresight to usher in these changes instead of letting the courts force it on them. Some measure of enforceable rules and controls could have been developed.

But we have now seen the staggering amounts of money boosters are willing to just give away to college players. I suppose that type of money was always there, but now its out in the open. Im not sure there was a way to contain it...although I thought the House settlement was a way to try.

We had geographic conferences already. Then money won.
