Dude has mastered the art of getting paid millions to do nothing. He got UK to do it this past year, and got the Spurs contractually obligated to keep doing it in the coming years.
It's a minor gamble for them, something like 3-4% of their payroll.

It was a bad gamble for UK. And I'm not even mad at Quaintance, because I don't see this as a Shaedon Sharpe thing, more like Jarred Vanderbilt. Some UK fans want to act like Vanderbilt dogged it, but the reality is he was limited by injury into his 2nd NBA season. The difference, though, is that Vanderbilt got hurt after UK signed him, while Pope signed an already injured Quaintance.

He's a much better passer and ball handler but is similar to Williams as a rim runner and shot blocker.
Fair enough, was hoping to see those offensive skills on display this year, but we all know how that went lol. At least he kept us at the top of the most first rounders list!

Please list the links to these current NBA medical “evaluations” (plural) stating as such, AND I WILL SELF BAN IMMEDIATELY… Or, STFU with these made up excuses, enabling the guy to be the phony that he is!

Your move.

The team doctor for the Nets recommended another surgery to repair his meniscus. Its pretty obvious. So the self ban starts when ?

That's ridiculous. so you think the Spurs didn't do their due diligence and you also think that he has a team of doctors helping with the grift?

Cough, cough … Your thoughts on today’s news? Is it fake news?

It’s been written about for weeks. I’m the first to admit the Sharpe debacle causes me to 2nd guess injuries and players sitting out. However, I do believe JQ wanted to play and couldn’t. Today’s news should make that clear to everyone.

JQ might have done the right thing shutting it down for his draft stock. But he still should make a $1M donation to Kentucky Children's Hospital to show some love since he couldn't play much.
It will never be the right thing.

lol at the posters saying “if he recovers” as if he hasn’t been completely fine for 6 months.
Heard 2 NBA insiders today say he's not playing next year and a second surgery is coming. I think we can put the was he healthy enough to play to rest. He clearly wasn't healthy.

He's made a fortune by not playing.
There’s no doubt people are paying for future potential. The kid is 18 years old!

Pope rolled the dice. Spurs are rolling the dice with a guaranteed 2-3 year contract.

Fact remains that JQ still has knee problems and did while here.

When he's healthy, the kid plays like an animal. He had major reconstructive knee surgery. Was desperate and stupid for UK to take him on.

I do think we made the gamble, and lost, as you said. I think we got desperate to land a big name that other programs were shying away from. This is why i wish we could get to a point where the players have to have some skin in the game for these NIL deals. A player like JQ should have never been in the position, or having the leverage, to get $2mil from any program.

Looking at it another way, what NFL player would get 10% of the team salary for a 1-year/unrestricted free agent deal, coming off an ACL tear? Like, does Patrick Mahomes even get that? You might give that to some of the NBAs best players, but someone like Tyler Herro isnt gonna get a deal like that. Thats essentially what we did with JQ. And other teams werent far behind our offer.

College basketball players might honestly have the most leverage of any sport out there right now. Unproven players are getting multi million dollar deals, where theres no penalty for not playing and they can leave after 1 year for a better deal. That is INSANE when you really think about it. Highway robbery.
In an NBA full of elite athletes, a healthy JQ would be right at the top of the category. His physical tools and defensive instincts are (again if healthy) game changing at any level. Pope gambled and lost. I don't blame Pope for rolling the dice on him. We'll see what happens with the Spurs. If JQ never fully recovers it will be a shame not to see what he could have been.

Its not hard to put 2 and 2 together and suss the situation out. And either way, he took millions to essentially not play, he could have come back this year.

No fan of a team is going to support a player that does this. You dont neccesarily have to HATE them, but your delusional if you think fans would continue supporting players who effectively "quit" on the team. Go read what Kansas fans have been saying about Peterson all week leading up to the draft
So be like Kansas!!!!
You said he came here knowing he was gonna not play
That's complete Bs and you are better than that
Idc one way or the other

Im using kansas as an example of a similar situation and their fans arent exactly in support of Peterson at this point. Same as us with JQ. Same with any team in a similar situation. Once again, that doesnt mean you have to hate the player, but you sure dont need to root for him or care what happens to his career.

This fanbase is just miserable. It could be sunny and 72 degrees and posters here would scream why isn't it 75 degrees and it's not all that sunny because one cloud is passing by. Just miserable.

I don't know when the collective IQ bottomed out so badly that the "common wisdom" from the supposedly most knowledgeable fans is that 1. Injuries don't generally exist. 2. If they do by some stray chance exist then they don't matter. 3. Even if they do matter they are never a reason for disappointment merely an excuse. 4. Injured players are usually goldbricking scammers out to rip hearts out of chests and take a runny dump on them.

Some simply are not mentally built to exist In a real and physical universe and seemingly don't even consider the people there to entertain them as actual people and even if they do the default relationship is adversarial with everyone out to somehow scam them in some fashion.

NIL has been nothing but a negative and this is now a pro league. It’s not going back but my interest in watching pro basketball is limited. I think UK long term won’t be able to compete. Our biggest advantage was being a winning program that could get you to the league. Now they are already in the league essentially.
