It’s weird Cal promised the Hog nation he would recruit only the top best players . He gets the 7th pick and that’s it . How embarrassing they believed in CalWill we ever get our swag back?
Spears could be that guy for Pope.
Where did lendonborg go? That's the kind of players I want. Ik I spelled it wrong
They're in a good spot regardless. You get Yaxel or Ament, whichever one is remaining.Interestingly, Dallas just picked his teammate and Dusty May's guy, Morez Johnson. Lendeborg is still on the board. I can hear the Thunder organization holding their breath hoping he falls to them at 12.
Ament will be dangerous in a few yearsThey're in a good spot regardless. You get Yaxel or Ament, whichever one is remaining.
2026 NCAA champion: Michigan, 3 1st round draft picks
2025 NCAA champion: Florida, 1 1st round draft pick, 2 2nd round draft picks.....at least 2 more (haugh/condon) pending
2024 NCAA champion: UCONN, 2 1st round draft picks, 2 2nd round draft picks
2023 NCAA champion: UCONN, 1 1st round draft pick, 1 2nd round draft pick (see above)
talent matters. Need NBA level HS and portal players
Bet Draymond doesn't punch yaxel in practiceLooks like Ament is up next. Yaxel to the GSW. Just makes sense.

Definitely. You can't win titles with 2nd tier guys. Here's hoping Wilkins. N'Diaye and Moreno take the next step this year. This is obvious to anyone with a brain. Some of our fans are dumb.
Producing top picks doesn't equate to winning. I believe cal proved that rather thoroughly..so glad he is gone. Never seen a coach do more with less...however scheyer is approaching that milestoneWill we ever get our swag back?

100% even with moreno.....we are kind of banking on him to be a 14-16ppg 7-8rpg type of player this year. no small ask.Definitely. You can't win titles with 2nd tier guys. Here's hoping Wilkins. N'Diaye and Moreno take the next step this year.
Some of our fans keep projecting our guys at their abosolute highest potential, but how often does everything usually come together like that?
The NBA lockout led to that title. There’s still a large portion of the fanbase who will say having these picks doesn’t matter. The more of them you have the better odds of you winning the entire thing.
Not a coincidence Cal said the 2010 draft night was the biggest night in program history. A bunch of people got mad because they couldn’t see the forest for the trees. That night led to Anthony Davis, MKG, Towns, Booker, Fox, Ulis, Murray and all the talent that won a lot of games and brought the only national title since the turn of the century.
The thing about Duke is, which was the same with Cal. I can't act like I wasn't nervous as a sumbirch the last five years with them winning a national championship.Producing top picks doesn't equate to winning. I believe cal proved that rather thoroughly..so glad he is gone. Never seen a coach do more with less...however scheyer is approaching that milestone
this is the problem with our fan base. too much cal derangement syndrome. cant give him a bit of credit, cant move on. it doesnt matter why the players returned, just that they did. focusing on all the wrong things. without nba talent you arent going to win it. who cares why they ended up on the roster.....The NBA lockout led to that title.
Top talent = a better team = more winning. Winning a 6 game single elimination is a hard thing to do.Producing top picks doesn't equate to winning. I believe cal proved that rather thoroughly..so glad he is gone. Never seen a coach do more with less...however scheyer is approaching that milestone
i think we will need moreno for a year 3 to have a proven big to go along with the guys you mention. not sure he can take a big jump in year 2. nick richards was very very good in year 3. guys like diallo/wilkins as fringe NBA guys. now you have a top 2 roster to start the season.Well the good news is we have Hampton for next year already and we are looking good for Kusturika.. both of those guys profile to be 2 of Pope's better and maybe most talented gets. The only one I think higher is JQ, who we know basically never played for us.
It was pretty clear that no one on Popes first two teams would be a lottery pick. Year 1 those guys were all too old. Year 2, those guys were busts and our recruits didnt pan out. Hampton and Kusturika have some outside chance to be lottery picks.
Then go ride it. No one is stopping you.this is the problem with our fan base. too much cal derangement syndrome. cant give him a bit of credit, cant move on. it doesnt matter why the players returned, just that they did. focusing on all the wrong things. without nba talent you arent going to win it. who cares why they ended up on the roster.....
sure you arent guaranteed to win anything. but the team that does, likely has 2-3 NBA players on it. scheyer at duke has had miserable NCAAT success, but the dude gets a #1 seed every year, wins the ACC and has lost like 10 games over the past 3 years. i know which horse i'd rather ride with
We agree on everything in this post.Top talent = a better team = more winning. Winning a 6 game single elimination is a hard thing to do.

but thats wishful thinking right now.
agree with that. i think its a combo of:My point is more so that we are starting to get some momentum with the top game-changing recruits.
There feels to be sort of a shift the last few weeks. And theres still a ways to go, but something feels different. Is it the new AD? Neelw "GM" position working on things? Did JMI fix some things? Did Pope make changes? Or, did we jump the gun a bit when last year really was just a bad bad season.
there was a potential world where UK could have had the the #4 and #11 pick. the NBA draft is a big deal as a retrospective and barometer for the future.....if your goal is to win a high level consistently.I thought we were done with draft night being a big deal?
That's not what I meant. Adding any of those guys to last year's UK roster would make UK dramatically better and keep UK in the national spotlight as well."Three blue blood programs and Pope's former program just produced the top four picks."
The teams of Aj Dybantsa, Caleb Wilson (injured) and Darryn Peterson won a combined ONE GAME in the NCAA tournament.
Throw in Boozer and Duke, and the four programs you referenced averaged one tourney win -- the same as Kentucky.
If that's what you mean by "getting our swag back" then no thanks. I could not care less about placing guys in the NCAA. If doing that is the best way to win NCAA tournament games, then I'm all for it. But in the transfer portal era I think it is far less important.
I'd take a $100 bet right now that Tyran Stokes does NOT take Kansas farther in the NCAA tournament than Milan Momcilovic takes Kentucky.
"Hell, Jesus Christ couldn't win without talent !!"2026 NCAA champion: Michigan, 3 1st round draft picks

He wasn't healthy, just like Jaland Lowe and Jayden Quaintance weren't healthy, and Kam Williams wasn't for much of the year. I thought injuries were not an excuse. That's not what I meant. Adding any of those guys to last year's UK roster would make UK dramatically better and keep UK in the national spotlight as well.
Simple question, does a healthy Caleb Wilson improve UK's roster last season?
Yeah definitely top 10 likely top 5Would Tyran Stokes even go lottery in this draft? The deepest I can remember.
There is nothing crap shoot about the ncaat. Get to a 1 seed and your odds skyrocket. Everyone knows the few teams from which the title will come from. Rarely is there ever a dark horse and when there is it’s usually a blue bloodSince the title is a crap shoot, it would be interesting to expand this analysis to the Final Four for those years.
