And of course, the Heat now have Bam and Giannis... I don't know if they have enough other players to truely make any noise in the East.
They just traded all their shooting. The paint is going to be so clogged. They don’t have a first round pick now. I don’t get this trade. The financial flexibility didn’t improve much at all if any.

A damn nice haul for Milwaukee. They cleaned out Miami’s best young talent AND also three first round picks (including this year’s lottery pick).

Riley basically sold off the franchise’s future in exchange for one aging star.

Yeah dont see this winning the heat a title or close to it. Im no NBA expert so someone correct me if wrong. Okc is better and spurs and Knicks and Celtics. At least

I feel like this ultimately does nothing for either franchise. Maybe Milwaukee can use these draft picks to build a team, but they will be terrible for several years. And I feel like by the time Bam, Giannis and the Heat get going (it won't be this coming season), Giannis is going to be well into his back 9. I don't think changes the landscape much at all

Miami wasn't going to win with what they had.

Yeah I guess you have to take your shots. And he's going to sell jerseys and put butts in seats. But I just don't see it mattering. Even if they can beat out the Knicks or Pistons or a retooled Boston.. they won't beat the Spurs or OKC.. at least as currently constructed.. Maybe they add someone else or make some moves.

It doesn't make sense to me for Miami. You already have Bam. Giving up 2 solid wings (Herro & the one from UCLA).

I think Bam will be free to play a little more outside. It seems that's kind of what he wants to do as his 3-pt shooting attempts have been rising the last few years. But I also agree, it's a little much of your salary spent on the front court.

There are players in the NBA, that just need there chance, just like any level of ball. Only difference is these guys were stars for some team, and have the ability 'There in the NBA' there will be someone step up for the Heat, they are all pros.

It’s an aggressive splash acquisition for the Heat, but I’m not sure how much it really improves them. When healthy, Giannis is still a star level player and not just empty name value. He almost definitely makes them better this year than they would have been holding on to the collection of role players they sent back.

With all the picks they’re also sending out, they’re basically mortgaging their future to try and win right now though, and that’s going to be a really tall order with quite possibly a short window. Giannis, while still great is showing some subtle signs that he may already be past his absolute peak, and has dealt with some injuries lately. It’s also debatable how well his game really fits with Bam, who will clearly be their second best player, and they aren’t likely to have the cap space or the remaining trade capital to make more significant additions. It’s definitely an aggressive move, but I feel like the odds are against it working out.

But at least before they were fairly well situated for the future. Whereas now it looks like Miami is destined to fall off a cliff in a couple years without any young talent/draft picks to work with.

But I guess at 81-years-old Riley ain’t concerned about the future. He just wants to win NOW …even if means screwing over his successor.

I think about it Riley’s an aging star he probably has a year or two left and wants to win the title on the way out. Or at least be right up in the thick of it and leave on the high note. Leave the game. The Michael Jordan of coaches a Kentucky guy he was the biggest leverage we could use if Barney had half a brain.. hopefully he retires after this year and Kentucky pursue him just to have him as part of the family.. come to a couple games a year put them on a hiring committee for the next coach. Using Pat Riley just makes so much sense. But these idiots that have been running things at our university or egomaniacal unwilling to have anyone that might show them up.

In the NBA, if you want to compete for a title you need at least 2 Superstars. None of the people the traded will ever be Superstars. They were going to be a team that made it to the playoffs and that was about it. Just treading in mediocrity.

This is the truth. How we haven’t used Riley in some capacity blows my mind.

Agree. Awful fit imo. You have basically two of the same type of guy and no one else around them.
