What concerts do you all have on tap?

It is a slow year for us so far. AC/DC in July, Iron Maiden and Megadeth in September, and Zac Brown Band in October.

  • Drivin n Cryin June 11 @ Visulite
  • Primus/Claypool Gold June 16 at the Amp
  • Billy Strings Hartford CT July 28 (tentative, becoming less likely with flight costs)
  • Daniel Donato Aug 28&29 at the Ryman
  • Iron Maiden Sept 12th Truliant amphitheater
  • The Mars Volta Sept 15 Neighborhood Theater
  • D. Donato, M. Tuttle & Houndmouth Sept 25 @ the Amp
  • Clutch Oct 16 Fillmore
  • Deer Tick Nov 9th Neighborhood Theater
  • Jack White Nov 13 Fillmore

Also eyeballing AC/DC, Megadeth, Down in Greensboro and one of the Asheville or Greensboro Mastodon shows.

Others I'm considering if mood strikes the day of:
  • Kevin Morby
  • String cheese incident
  • Umphreys Mcgee
  • American Aquarium

Love the eclectic mix of genres here! Lots of good venues, too. American Aquarium is probably one of my three favorite bands. Don't know if you've seen them live but if you haven't, I'd highly recommend. What BJ lacks in vocal talent he makes up for in storytelling and performative shows.

I used to go to a few shows a month but we've got two small kids and moved from the Triangle up to West Jefferson last fall so that has all come to a screeching halt lately. One cool thing about being in the Triangle was I'd be on bands before anyone else knew who they were, but then by the time they blow up I don't have the appetite to go see them in massive venues.

I've seen Charley Crockett play with 40 people in the audience at Motorco. Zach Bryan play at the Ritz and Lincoln Theater. Billy Strings play in a theater with 200 people. It's hard to get motivated to go spend $500+ on tickets, dinner, etc. just to sit 50 yards from the stage when you've seen them in smaller venues.

Now that we're up here The Ramkat is probably our closest decent venue for the stuff I like, so it's a little drive but at least it's a great venue.

I saw Maiden two years ago, and sadly, it was not great. They played a lot more obscure stuff instead of the hits. The setlists for this tour so far look awesome. I am actually taking my 13-year-old son to this one, so it will be fun to see him experience Maiden.

American Aquarium in Raleigh is on my list for the future.

Billy's live shows are the best thing going right now, IMO. If I make it to Hartford, it will be #20 and I'd be taking my buddy for his first. it's so tempting but the flights make it an expensive trip. And I added the Donato Ryman trip now, so there's that.

Only seen Aquarium once, at the Bear Shadow festival couple years ago. So id like to see a full show from them. And couple buddies would probably be up for it, so it will likely happen if schedule allows.

Live Nation randomly granted me four free tickets to the Black Crowes concert last Sunday. I was pumped to see them again, and Whiskey Myers. Unfortunately, Raleigh had a power outage mid-set for Whiskey Myers, delaying the concert for an hour. They came back for a couple of songs, and the Crowes did an abbreviated set of their hits. It was somewhat disappointing, but hard to complain for free.

So far this summer.....

Church at Red Rocks x 2
Blackberry Smoke x 2 in Wilmington and Durham
Gary Clark Jr in Durham
I was hoping to see you pop up on the thread because I remember you posting on the old site for concerts. Completely jealous of Church at Red Rocks. We just saw him again in Greensboro in March, and he put on a heck of a performance. Red Rocks is still on my bucket list. Enjoy!

saw BC in front of maybe ten people at The Switch in Raleigh literally the month before their album blew up (guessing it was 94 or95?) Anyway not even a stage they played on the floor by the bar and every few songs they bellied up for shots with us and paid!

That is a heck of a story! The first time I saw them was years ago in the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in Asheville, NC. I weaseled my way up to the front row.

Thomas Wolfe 2006 was my first show. Wife got me tix as surprise present. While I knew them more than she, we both only really knew them for the MTV/radio hits. She was not a fan of the jam-band style - deep cuts, covers (Long Black Veil, Fearless, Neil Young Alabama), and some of the jamming/improv stuff. I loved it and proceeded to catch them anytime i could for next decade or so. Probably 15+ shows. Then soured on them (the infighting, revolving door guitarists, etc) and havent gone out of my way to see them since. Still respect them as musicians/performers, but the balance point of price and schedule havent aligned to justify me seeing them.

Went to Claypool Gold on Tuesday. It was an awesome night overall. Certainly helped that the temps dropped 20 degrees from the weekend. The Primus set had some high points (bastards, harold) but lost some energy in the middle. The full ensemble of all three bands joining for Pachyderm encore was awesome. Worth catching if it comes near you.

Turnpike in October at Red Hat
Sturgill/JBS in October at Lenovo
Silverada (Mike and the Moonpies) in October at Lincoln
American Aquarium annual set in February at Lincoln - always delivers like @PINEHEEL mentioned above

Bummed Billy Strings isn't hitting Koka Booth this year. But got to see Shane Smith and the Saints in Greensboro earlier this year put on a heck of a show as well, phenomenal live act every time.

Got tix last night for Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives at the Ramkat in Winston in August. Pretty excited about it. Great musicians and performers. Worth checking out for anyone not familiar but likes country/rockabilly/bluegrass/surf/psychadelic rock. May sound wacko but they pull it off.

BJ has one of those voices you either love or can’t take. I’m sadly the latter. I saw an AA show pre-Covid and the dude probably makes the most bizarre faces I’ve ever seen someone make onstage. Odd cat?

Confirmed for ACDC on Sat. Upper level but free Tix! Friend had someone drop out, lucky for me.

Also have a work trip now scheduled in ATL for late Oct, so should be able to catch the Sturgill show down there.

I think that's being kind. I've never met anyone who loves his voice, including him, which he often jokes about online and at his shows.

He's not too odd. I know him in passing and he's a good dude with a lot of old school southern NC sensibilities. His facial mannerisms and bad dancing/footwork on stage are what they are.

Incredible songwriter and performer who never takes a night off, though. You're going to get the same effort and passion on a Monday night that you do on a Saturday.
