Countless college programs will still crawl to him if he fails in the NBA.
Oh, I have no doubt about that. But he’ll be starting over. And it won’t be the same. Good chance he’ll never again have a situation as sweet as he’s walking away from right now (just as Pitino could never again replicate what he departed from in 97).

Fact: you do not know if your comment above has an ounce of merit. You don’t know. We shall find out together
99% of the posts on this site are nothing more than speculation. I hope Hawthorne is a player of the year candidate, but I just don’t see him as a impactful player for us next season.

Haha he handled it pretty well. But its an absolute knock-out punch for Michigan Basketball and he knows it. In a hypothetical world, say Dusty is at a Michigan for the next 10 years. The difference in Michigan having him for a decade, and having what likely is a carousel of some mediocre coaches.. it might be worth 100/150 wins and probably seleveral March runs, maybe a few F4s and another title. Thats how seismic of a shift this is.

If Hawthorne is playing significant minutes next season, things are not going well for Kentucky. He’s everyone’s favorite player because he’s never left the bench. No way is Hawthorne ready to compete against SEC forwards.
I don't understand this logic. Glass bone dry take.

May is the one who told Kusturica that Pope may not be at UK after next season.

Collegiate "contracts" are essentially one-year deals, whereas professional contracts are typically more than a year.
The instability of collegiate rosters year-to-year is unsettling to college coaches, especially those who are good enough to court NBA offers.
That is just the way it is right now ...

It's kindled a rivalry between the schools when we have enough rivalries as it is. Former players pledging allegiance to Arkansas, prospects seeing Kentucky as outdated, the college basketball world claiming we made a mistake, the SEC getting tougher and tougher, etc. Otherwise, I agree with you. I'm not scared of the head-to-head matchup this year.

If he had gone to another school, maybe we wouldn't be dealing with this.
I don’t believe how prospects see us a single thing to do with Calipari being at Arkansas or anywhere else. I also don’t pay much attention to what former players say or do .

My guess is this was intended as a joke, but Cal would win big at Michigan.
Someone is going to hire Josh Schertz and he will be the next successful newcomer.
Kentucky was a year late in securing Jon Sumrall and we’re going to regret it. The same thing will happen with Schertz.
LMFAO! The days of Cal “winning big” have been gone for over a decade. NEWSFLASH……he wasn’t “winning big” at Kentucky anymore, lol .

This story on CBS shows how much coaches are tired of the NIL era already. He just won the championship and told the reporter he wouldn’t be coaching Michigan 3-4 years from now. He started recruiting the portal right away. This happened while he was getting his COTY award.

This is May talking to a highly regarded player in the transfer portal. The player called May, so he popped out of his chair and had to put our interview on pause for a few moments to see what was happening. During his conversation, the player verbally committed to play for Michigan next season. A huge development. When the call was over, I congratulated him, then he chuckled, saying something to the effect of, "Just because he committed doesn't mean he's coming. We still have to deal with the agent."

The story gets even stranger. This player verbally reinforced his commitment to May two more times in the ensuing weeks.

The agent was a handful, though.

And so Michigan never got him.

He'll be playing elsewhere next season.

That's the portal recruiting experience in a nutshell.

No wonder they want our fast now. It’s a joke with the NCAA having no power. Congress needs to give them some control back asap.

I just don't see the Mavs being a better job than Michigan right now. You just won a title, you can outspend almost any other program (Mavs you get to spend the same as all 30 other teams), you probably have close to a lifetime-type of contract at Michigan.

But maybe the NIL era is just too insane to deal with year in and year out. And he does get Cooper Flagg who might be a top10 current NBA player already.

But still, Mavs could fire him in 2 years like it's nothing.

I say he looks at it as college is similar to coaching pros now that college players are paid. Might as well skip the NIL drama and coach a professional team. At least the players are under contract.

Michigan can easily afford to over pay by a million or two in order to keep guys. Don't expect much movement on their roster.
They are hiring one of the current assistants to try and keep the roster together. The problem is Mike Boynton is not a good basketball coach. Also, we're already seeing some of their players saying they learned May was leaving from the internet. So this definitely isn't going smoothly.

Nobody knows how he will play.
