UM fans are hoping they target and appear will be targeting Mike Boynton. Continuity purposes. Some might leave but I’d be surprised if most didn’t stick around because, A. NIL B. Continuity purposes with said new coach to reel back in. I believe they’ll use the same playbook as they did with Kyle Whit and retaining Bryce and co. But I’m sure the sweepstakes of Nikola will help the cats out and just need to beat UCLA. This one absolutely stings for UM. They were the closest ones to build a dynasty with the pedigree of a top coach with a war chest of NIL. Stupid to not take the magic job but take Mavericks imo.

Maybe if Kustiraciaca falls through, we take a flyer on Malachi Brown from Knoxville as a developmental backup guard.

Love this for my Dallas Mavericks (even though I can't stand the new owner). Also love the storyline this will create in college basketball.

I wonder how the NIL deals are worded. Does this release them from their contract obligations?

They can yes. Let’s grab that Freshman McKinney from last year or maybe that Euro kid we are after they wanted as well.
The dream addition would be Cadeau. Because, frankly, i’m not at all sold on Diallo as our starting point. At UW he was erratic, often mistake prone and not a good shooter on underachieving teams.

Adding the reigning Final Four MVP as our point would elevate us to the status of a MAJOR national title threat.

Top 10??? Already? No. Definitely understand he's a huge reason you would accept the job but that's pushing it.

I think hes gonna get there this year. I don't like it, but hes very close. You can look at it another way in that he still doesn't have any sort of accolades so how could he be a top10 player or even a top50 player.

But I think if you're starting a team tomorrow.. You take Wemby, SGA, Joker, Ant-man, maybe Brunson for his clutchness... and then who else?

He finished April with 30/7/4 per game on shooting splits of 47/43/95. He was cooking.

Have to think we are in a decent spot to land one of these guys. I imagine most schools are tapped out with their NIl budgets, but apparently we still have a ton left(based on what we supposedly offered Kusturica). We can probably get a better return from that money getting another of their top players.

Yep, was in the process of writing something similar.

One nice thing about this 15-day window, Duke's roster (our competition) is already set. They really can't plug anyone else into the lineup, because sadly, it's pretty stacked. If they added anyone, someone is leaving. Where as UK on the other hand, our roster could be better.

Of course, I was actually thinking that but no way we get him with our guards already.

Buddy, we're not going to even consider Cadeau and Michigan will likely lock him down

We may not get him, but I don't think Michigan is in ANY position to lock down any of these players. They went from having maybe the best coach or top5 in the game, to now no one. ALl these players are likely looking to get out UNLESS Michigan can get a coach fast.

I honestly think it's gonna be Billy D. I think they move quick, offer him the moon and get back on track.

Yea but they are gonna still get huge bags at Michigan and what team and what coach would be better right now? Almost all of the top rosters are full and don't have much - if any - NIL left.

Sounds like another Rick pitino type story highly successful at the college level leaves for what he thinks is greener pastures then in three years fails in the nba and for the rest of his life carries a huge bag of what ifs . Strange indeed

I just don't see the Mavs being a better job than Michigan right now. You just won a title, you can outspend almost any other program (Mavs you get to spend the same as all 30 other teams), you probably have close to a lifetime-type of contract at Michigan.

But maybe the NIL era is just too insane to deal with year in and year out. And he does get Cooper Flagg who might be a top10 current NBA player already.

But still, Mavs could fire him in 2 years like it's nothing.
I can see it being a better job. Like Donovan said, "it's great to just coach basketball" and the NBA is the pinnacle of the basketball coaching profession. If it turns out that he doesn't like it and/or gets fired, he'll have plenty of opportunities for another college job.

That is true, what programs have money left? But these guys are gonna want to make sure theres a good coach in place. Thats why I think Michigan's move here is to throw the bank at Billy D, lock this up and keep the team there.

My guess is UM already knows who they are hiring, Dusty was open around this and may have even been involved.
Why wouldn't Donovan want this job? After a two years stint, my guess is Dusty leaves in good standing with succession and UM retains a good chunk of their players.

This would be an idea place for Donovan - walking into a top 5 roster with a slew of new freshmen he can coach up. It's generally a low pressure job as a football school.

Crazy. Do we really even have room? One spot open but still pursuing Kusturica hard.
Would now seem with Kusturica it's either UCLA or us (unless he doesn't leave Europe although latest news before the May info was he was definitely coming to US). Since Kusturica will be a 2-year player I would go for him. Otherwise target Cadeau as he was the reason they won the Title.

As good as Kusturica can be, a proven Michigan player seems to good to not try for.

He would probably keep the team together IMO. Probably the best hire currently and review after year one.

I was just going to say, I love that we are in line for Kusturica now but I might take Cadeau over him for next season. Nobody would have a better three guard combination in the country.

I’m really not sure who we could even take from them at this point. Trey mckenny would be the only one that makes sense, I’d love moustapha thiam but I don’t know if we have room for him

The Michigan players have to know just as well as we do that they have a very good team put together. I know May was one of the best and helped draw them there, but I wouldn’t anticipate their top players transferring at this stage of the game unless they hire a total bozo who does something to immediately lose the room.

It’ll be interesting to see who they can actually get though. They may call Donovan since he’s the obvious big name not currently under contract anywhere. If he says no, it’s so late stage that promoting an assistant may become more attractive than it ordinarily would be, although I am seeing rumors in other places to keep an eye of Josh Schertz.

I'm a little concerned North Carolina lures Cadeau back with a giant bag of cash and the promise of a third PhD...

Their transfer PG from Utah, Terrence Brown, is really more a combo guard and it'd be easy enough to sell both of them on playing together. Not a prediction, just something that makes me nervous. I never want to see that pestilent pile of corruption in Chapel Hill rise up from Hubert's ashes.
